I took exception that he says he ALWAYS falls apart in the Majors....just not so....

probably a better way to say it is he hasn't really been a threat in majors in 5 years..not a real threat to where he easily could have won it..

you're right, 'always' is afterall the most misused word in the english language.

guy just has a knack for one mistake leading to a complete meltdown in his game. it's like clockwork for him during every major, just isn't mentally there anymore.

it's also quite the stretch saying that if he hadn't hit the stick at the masters, that he would've won.. sports outcomes don't work like that.

your an idiot... probably one of the top 5 favorite players in history of the game that the gallery roots for...at least half the crowd is rooting for him in these majors.. You must not watch any golf...

Phil is a very flawed individual, but he is far more popular than Tiger. ratings are high when Tiger competes not just because people like him, but because a sizable portion of people root against him.

tiger has always been a front-running player and that will be his legacy when all said and done.

guy simply can not win any kind of tourney when he's right around the lead or even slightly behind after 54 holes. he simply can not take the pressure in these kinds of spots - he either starts missing greens at that point and/or his short game completely unravels. it's like clockwork for him every single time.

and with the talent in today's game, that's what ultimately decides majors.

I'm not sure what is supposed to be so "flawed" about Phil. I've followed both him and Tiger around in person in these Majors a few times over the years. And I've said on here many times that from tee to green Phil has just as much if not more game than Tiger. He definitely has more shots than Tiger. But it's been Tiger's putting that has been the difference. That is in the past, not any more. Tiger has lost something in his short game. And Phil is playing his best in his 40's. I said earlier in the week that I thought Phil had a great chance to win the Open because he's been in the wars in his last few big tournaments, and been right there. Plus unlike most of the other Opens it takes a special player to win at Muirifield. The only 3 players that I considered special that were still on the front page were Tiger, Scott, and Lefty.

His flaws are he's somewhat of a phony as well as a bigtime(possibly compulsive) gambler, i wouldn't include possible infidelity as a flaw.

How about some specifics!! How exactly is he a "phony"? Look up the word and you'll see a picture of Woods. A proven adulterer! "A bigtime gambler", if so where do you get the "compulsive" tag? There a lot of guys w/$$, doesn't make them "compulsive". You're full of shit, ashamed to see you're from Mn.! Woods is a choker, big time.

I don't see Phil as a phony. He interacts with the fans and signs autographs. Rarely have I ever heard him curse or say something out of line on the course. As far as gambling Phil is never running out of money. He has a huge number of endorsements and probably sits on the board of many companies. The only thing bad you can say about Phil is he could have had an even greater career. He is still in the top ten greatest golfers of all time.

A bunch of internet caca that may or may not be true. But if you think all of these rich white boys have lived flawless lives you are very naïve. Jack and Arnold probably thank Geezus everyday that they didn't play golf during the time of the internet and I-Phones. Although I didn't care for what Tiger did to his wife with his cheating, I don't wish him bad luck on the golf course. He is good for the game. But he's still a jackass. And Phil isn't.

I dont like Woods, and I do like Phil, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend he's a saint and lick his balls ala Mike Tirico with Tiger. i dont have a single first hand account about whether Phils a phoney or the nicest guy in the world, but when there are numerous stories about him being a jerk you can bet some of them are true. As far as the gambling goes, I gamble too much like most of us here, but once again I'm not going to pretend it's a virtue, it is not.

I wish there were more phony people like Phil.. family guy, has alot of charities, signs autographs ,sportsmanship is 2nd to none, gives you something in a interview even after a tough loss... fact that he gambles is a good thing IMO..
