actually more curious than anything.....

or looking to purchase then rent out as an investment.

Do you mind if I ask, how much is the place you are renting worth? and how much are you renting it for?

I don't own it, I know the guy that is Renting it. 1400sq house, renting for about $1200
It's in a great area. I gave it to Iceman, but he needed a new place Fast.
This place wouldn't be ready until Oct 1st

But if you are looking to Buy, there are Amazing deals in Vegas

The rental market is the most unbelievable thing you will witness. Literally houses go up for rent all day every day. If you snooze you lose.

It's good and it's bad because there is so much too choose from you are almost nervous to sign anything as you know another decent deal is less than an hour away.

I cant believe there are many other places to rent in the U.S better than Vegas right now. I think there are as many people leaving as there are coming into town.

I ordered some rain here today for Iceman. Thunderstorms and the dreaded flood watch will be in effect.

Be careful driving in the rain out here. The normally idiotic drivers step it up a notch when there is precipitation.

dont miss really anything.

I will miss the excitement the Lions will create this fall when they have a big season. That is one town that is dying for a football winner and when it happens look out, the town will explode!!

Good reading, Ice.

I was in a somewhat similar position a few years back. Moved from Ohio to SoCal...not quite for the same reasons as you, but I was still taking plenty of chances at the time. No real job prospects, not a lot of money in the bank, only knew two people out here before moving, etc. On the flight out to LA, I asked myself what the hell I was doing...but honestly, I've never been happier in my life. I'm doing what I love for a living and making more than I ever have before, and it's a direct result of the move. You had the sack to do something that very few people would never follow through on...most would be too scared of the uncertainty or too boring to try anything different. You'll find your niche, figure out what works and what doesn't. At the very least, you'll always be able to say you gave it a shot...which puts you ahead of the curve. Sit by a bus stop or subway station during rush hour and take a look at the rat race mopes on so many people's faces...I'd say 90% or more are just going through the motions every day and dreading life. You're not one of them.

As far as the early start times for games, I really prefer it this way. Games literally run from morning until night, and after the NFL Sunday night game finally ends around 7 pm or so, you have a little time to take a breather and rethink things for the next week. Maybe take in a late movie or dinner with the old lady or something...but a few hours away from it all each week is usually a good thing.

Don't worry if you want the appeal of yet another mediocre losing season like the Lions continually beget then we have none other than the UNLV Rebels football team, college football's answer to a pimple on the ass.

Don't worry they do have things in common with the Lions, like fans wear bags on their heads and games after September are essentially meaningless.

Oh yeah, time to change your avatar to the Lions since the Tigers didn't get it done. Just giving you a hard time about the Lions, if anyone deserves a good year it is them and their fans.

no worries I can take it. I am probably the biggest Lions fan you will ever meet. But with all that I am smart enough to still be realistic. Just remember where you heard it from first when they get good (only problem is I have been saying this since 2000, LOL).

Avatar change in order!!

thanks for encouragement. You are so right about everyone else. The problem was that was me once also, in the rat race of life. Except I had a decent job I liked and made good money at but I thought this cant be it. Time for a change. I am pretty sure this Vegas gig wont be too long but like you said at least we swung the bat. Not sure what the next move will be but I highly doubt it will be back to where I started either. Now that I left it should be easier looking for the "right spot" to be in life.

I agree with the whole niche thing. I am really trying to keep my eyes open to what it is I am looking for later in life. As for now this is what i want to do. I may or may not end up liking it at all. Time will tell. I just know it wasnt my last job. Like they say, life isnt a dress rehersal.

Vegas weather is fantastic ? Are you nuts ? Vegas weather sucks ! 115 outside and people are saying " What a beautiful day outside " ! I hate the weather here. It is 100 degrees for about 100 straight days. Not only the so called " dry heat " which is the biggest joke I have ever heard ! Fu-ken 119 is hot ! Lake Mead is drying up if you haven't taken note ! We are running out of drinking water as California, Arizona and Nevada are all fighting over the little water that is left after the farmers get their allotment. Las Vegas is a desert in which almost nothing edible will grow. The water bureau here is encouraging everyone to install desert landscaping which in plain English is a bunch of "Fu-ken Rocks " ! The absence of trees, grass and other green plants does not create a very healthy enviroment !
Give me the greenery of places like Oregon with rivers, lakes and plenty of refreshing rain to keep everything green and beautiful. Las Vegas will be a ghost town someday and it may not be all that far away !:ohno:

I wouldn't trade the weather in Oregon for anything. Sure we get our share of rain here , thats why everything is so green year around. I wouldn't live in Vegas BECAUSE of the weather.Who wants to spend all of their time in casino to get away from the heat. Your always welcome back up here Pal, just don't tell to many people of the beauty up here.

Thanks Tater!!!

Gf started her first day on the new job yesterday at Harrah's. I am a little worried she likes all this. She seems to have a great attitude so far but we shall see. This to me is going to be fun (hopefully) living out this so called "dream" that I have had since as long as I can remember. For her it is just 9-5 grind. Which leads me to another east coast vs west coast thing. West coasters start work way later than us east coasters. They gave my GF options when she wanted to put in her 8 hour day and she chose the earliest (which was still late in here eyes-8am start). They told her most here start around 10 am (WTF).

Still have made just one bet so far since I have been here (Lions winner!!!). Put together my plan and am moving money around right now. There seems to be a handful more options out here in Vegas that I didnt know about, if you get my drift. My plan is to be in 10 offshore accounts and still have a few locals back home that I will use from time to time. The one thing I am looking to use here in Vegas but I dont know a whole lot about is signing up for betting over the phone/net thru the vegas casino, which is allowed if you are a Vegas resident. Not sure how easy this will be but I will keep everyone posted. My whole philosophy is based on heavy volume and small edges so I need as many outs as I can get.

Have completley stayed away from baseball the past month and from what I have heard the favorites are killing people. Talked to a few sharp locals who bet bases and they claim they have lost all their profits in this month. I am sure I would have lost my ass as I am mostly a dog player. Shopping for great lines has worked for me most of the time but the whole baseball thing I am not sure works. I did beter this year just picking live underdogs and not worrying too much about the price in baseball.

Thinking about going swimming today. I dont think I have swam more than 2 times in the past 20 years. I mean real swimming, not jumping in the lake for a quick second stuff. They have community pools all over in these neighborhoods. Not to fond of swimming in a communitiy pool but they seems to be cleaning it all the time. Throw in all the parks around Summerlin and there is a ton of places to do some recreational activites. You have to give Vegas credit in the fact they have done a good job with all the parks in these planned areas. We live less than a half mile from a cool walking park for the dogs and it is always [acked with people and animals exercising.

Went to Vegas Insider seminar a little this weekend. I may start a thread on a few things I heard that a few pros said that were very interesting. One of the best things I think I will like about vegas is all the conventions and seminars. I am going to a horse race handicapping seminar later in the year. I also have always wanted to day trade the stock market and there a few conventions like that throughout the year. I missed a horseracing tournament last week at the RR but there is one this week at the Green Valley Ranch casino but it is Saturday during CFB, so no go for me. These tournaments seem to pay back 100% of the entry fees so it seems pretty cool.

Put together a huge list of weekly/yearly football contests around town, once again I think if you play in the 100% payout tournies there can be some money to be made in these. Seems like these are everywhere. Hoping to find some little dive places that have these weekly contest and maybe entering them also. I will enter the Hilton contest also, so that should be fun.

Thanks, happy to hear you like it. I promise it will get more interesting from a gambling stanpoint soon. Not sure what I should and shouldnt post. Kind of feeling all this out right now but I do want people to learn what it would be like for the average guy to attempt this.

I am not some big time bettor (moneywise) like most that have made this trek before. I have a bankroll and have to be careful with all this. I am only going off my prior knowledge of betting at a semi serious level the past 2 years. I am using that time as a reference to what I hope to do while I am here.
