I agree, they were very influential. Especially to the 80's and 90's alternative movement. Buffalo Springfield was the most influential band of the folk/country rock movement of the 70's. Their sound influenced later bands like The Byrds, CSN&Y, The Eagles, Poco and many more...In terms of importance, the most inluential Amercan band ever was the Velvet Underground.
Buffalo Springfield actually had 5 memebers go solo and have successful careers. Three of them were very successful. Neil Young, Stephen Stills and David Crosby. Two other members (Furay, Messina) formed Poco, who I liked even more than the Eagles. Messina also went on to form the highly successful Loggins & Messina. If you compare the original members careers of Buffalo Springfield to the Eagles it isn't even close. Buffalo easily wins. It's too bad that some of the members of this super group were so egotistic, or else if they had stayed together they would have certainly been considered the best American band ever...
I agree. Both of those bands lean more to the pop side of music. I used to listen to Chicago quite a bit. Especially their first 3 albums. But after their guitar player Terry Kath died they went from a rock sound to a lame soft rock/pop band.two more bands in this thread that don't rock'n roll imo
Definitely have to throw CCR in the mix. Plus their music has held up well with time. In fact all of these bands music has. I guess my top 5 would be the E Street Band, The Band, Allman Brothers, The Doors, CCR.
