anywhere credible that you look up ... Neil Young, it will always start off similar to "Neil Percival Young, is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician". That is the point. This will never change. Never. So you cannot list him under American anything such as the greatest American singer etc. Sorry.
So many L7 s in this thread. It's a subjective discussion. I however can be objective. I have not read every post but I have read about three pages and I get the impression that most pick the ones who were popular or relevant during the time period of their youth. Beach Boys cannot be denied. Nirvana cannot be denied: their influences on American music. There are more to be sure. Has anyone mentioned Presley? Never liked him but his influence is still relevant today.
