I think its a big stretch to even call the Eagles a " rock band ".. Always viewed them as pop or bubblegum music more then rock...sure didn't sound like rock & roll to me.....think my guy NES is going to let me have it when he checks in on this thread....
i seen him a dozen times, the great amazing and the not so great. I agree with what you said and ya more of a solo artist than a band.I loved SRV. But I consider him more of a solo artist than a group. I saw him live twice in the 80's. The first time I saw him he was fucking great. I have never heard anybody like him. The second time I saw him was in the late 80's when he was a full fledged drug addict, and he was terrible. He did a bunch of meandering guitar solos that kind of drifted off. Didn't sound anything like the first time I saw him. Pretty sad that he got his life straightened out after that just to die in a helicopter crash.
It reminds me of how few memorable rock bands there have been for the last 30 years. I was watching an interview with Billy Bob Thorton a couple of years ago. He's just as much a music guy as he is an actor. He has a good band called the Boxmasters. Anyway, he was getting into a discussion with the interviewer about the music of the past 30 years or so. He said that there really hasn't been a memorable songwriter or band come around since Springsteen. And doubts that any of the music we have heard since then will ever be remembered like the bands from the 60's and 70's. He thought part of it was because record labels won't give an artist time to grow like they did with Dylan and others from that time. Plus with the social media and other distractions that go on in today's world, it's hard for an artist to sit down and hone their craft without all of these distractions. I think he had a good point.Cant agree with much of what is in the this thread. I think if I had to choose I would go with the Allman Brothers band. But in general this thread just seems to remind me how few good rock bands are actually from the US.
