Had a spirited debate Sunday on the beach with a bunch of friends on who is the greatest American rock band of all time. Your vote ?

I see some glaring omissions for songwriter's...

For U.K and oversees, there's David Bowie and Ian Hunter (who'd probably be at the top of any most underrated list).

For American songwriter, you have to have Tom Petty in there (as well as a candidate for Rock band). Here's one of his many hits. This is also what I consider one of the best special guest performances. Typically when an established act brings on a special guest for one their numbers, it's either underwhelming, forgettable, or a bit of a train wreck. I think this one is top shelf.

Every time I watch the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, it makes me so grateful that I lived in the 60's & 70's era of music. There has never been as much creativity and memorable music made either before or since that era. Wonderful hall of fame show tonight. Their tribute to Linda Ronstadt knocked it out of the ballpark...

Being a little biased, the Nirvana presentation was fantastic... 1st time in over 20 years that those songs were performed.. Pretty emotional night....Joan Jett was awesome doing Smells Like Teen Spirit....Grohl's speech was great
