Florida Gators vs. Oklahoma Sooners over 69

I complained about the -3 they gave out of FL, so they gave me their total as a comp.

FF's free pick today:

If there ever was a stat to take advantage of...
Florida -1/2 2nd Quarter (risking 1.1u to win 1u)
while both teams have dominated the 1st Quarter. Oklahoma 225-30 and Florida 167-20. In the 2nd Quarter Oklahoma's defense has struggled allowing 120points (9.2avg) while UF has given up only 31 points.

4* #711 WRIGHT STATE +10.5 over BUTLER

The Butler formula for success is a simple one. While recruiting big-time athletes to play their college ball at Hinkle Fieldhouse against this level of competition is difficult because of the lack of sex appeal, the program has focused on bringing in players with the best basketball skills. And you can win a lot of games with dribblers, passers and shooters, particularly in a savvy system. The key to handling the Bulldogs, then, is to understand that system, and have the defensive tenacity and patience to compete for the full shot clock on every possession. That is exactly what Brad Brownell and his Raiders bring to the table, and it means an intense evening at Hinkle tonight. As so often happens, Brownell struggled vs. the Butler playbook on the first look, an ugly 73-42 loss here in January of 2006. But then look at the turnaround ? Wright State has gone 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in the ensuing meetings beating the pointspread by 38 in the process, or 9.5 per game. We believe that we have more of the same in store tonight. Butler is off to a surprisingly strong start this season, with the chemistry blending quickly despite three freshmen in the starting lineup. But that lack of experience will show now that the Bulldogs are facing a defense that will test their patience, and a tenacious Raider ?D? that is allowing only 38.3 percent shooting will do just that. It is that defense that makes Brownell?s team such a ?tough out? in spots like this, and while that earlier 0-2 tour of the Wisconsin schools in early December ended a 9-0 ATS run as conference road underdogs, note that the Raiders were extremely short-handed in those games because of a slew of early injuries. Now they have had a chance to get most of their rotation back in order, which led to that solid pre-Christmas run through San Juan when they whipped Oral Roberts, South Florida and Murray State by a combined 46 points over three days, and in their return home they picked up a pair of Horizon wins last weekend. In senior point guard William Graham they have a savvy floor leader that will not be bothered by this environment, and with the possible return of Vaughn Duggins (he made the trip, and could be cleared for action if he feels good in pre-game warmups), there is an additional emotional spark. We will once again call for Wright to battle Butler tooth-and-nail to the final possession, making this pointspread a tall order at the slow pace that will be set.

Anaheim Ducks at Los Angeles Kings
Prediction: Los Angeles Kings

I won with the Ducks when these teams faced each other a couple of nights ago. Playing with immediate "revenge," I won't be surprised if the Kings grab tonight's game and settle the score. The Kings knocked off the Flyers in their last game here while the Ducks have lost three of their last four on the road. For the season, the Kings are outscoring teams by a 2.7 to 2.5 margin in their home games, while outshooting them by a 29.6 to 25.8 mark in those games. On the other hand, the Ducks are getting outshot by a 35.6 to 27.2 margin on the road, getting outscored by an average score of 2.8 to 2.7. Consider backing the revenge-minded home team.

OKLAHOMA +6 ***CFB GAME OF THE YEAR***
OKLAHOMA ML +180
OKLAHOMA UNDER 70
This is a play that will will make you so uncomfortable because the ENTIRE WORLD is on Florida!! All I read and hear is "Florida defense, Defense wins championships, Florida team speed, Tim Tebow is a God" blah, blah, blah!! Come on people this is the biggest game of the year and I am going to tell you why I am going to look like a genius when it's over!! First, the Florida defense is good BUT are they THAT good or simply benefited from a generous schedule that saw their opponents rank 73rd in total offense on average?? And here is a BIG BUT - the defensive line for Florida is YOUNG and this probably explains WHY this defense, despite ranking 7th overall in the nation, has struggled to get penetration as evidenced by their 31st national ranking in sacks and 79th ranking for tackles for a loss. And this is the difference maker!! This OU offensive line is big - no....HUGE, strong, fast, and EXPERIENCED!! This group ranks as one of the best in the nation at protecting their QB - 3rd in the nation at sacks allowed and 7th in fewest tackles for a loss!! So you tell me how the hell Florida is going to get pressure on Bradford!! Now, I realize Bradford is the Heisman winner and I also realize the strong trends that exist in going against these winners in their bowl games but here is what I say to that - blah, blah, blah!! Bottom line, Bradford is a stud and he will pick apart this Florida defense all day long!! And for those of you who actually believe the hype about Florida's defense - I will argue all day long that OU's defense is every bit as good, if not BETTER!! I realize the Sooners rank 63rd in the nation in overall defense but don't be fooled by this number!! There are two things you must recognize; 1. The Sooners played a top-ranked offense almost every week. In fact, 6 (that's SIX) Big 12 offenses rank in the TOP 13 in the nation - SIX people!! (Florida didn't face ONE Top 20 offense all season) and 2. OU's defensive numbers were often hurt by 4th quarter garbage when the game was already over!! This is all you need to know about the OU defense - they rank 16th in the nation at stopping the run!! What does Florida rely heavily on?? The run!! In fact, in looking back at Florida's only loss this year, Ole Miss, what I find interesting are the similarities between that match up and this one. Ole Miss' strength on defense was stopping the run (6th in nation) while offensively they were the most balanced team Florida faced all year. The Sooners are great at stopping the run (16th in nation) and their offense is arguably the most balanced in the nation!! Folks, listen, to win championships you must possess 3 things - a great run defense, tremendous balance on offense, and the ability to win the turnover battle!! 1. Great run defense - Edge: Even, 2. tremendous balance on offense - Edge: OU, and 3. Turnover margin - speaking of the turnover battle Florida ranks 2nd in the nation in turnover margin, so who ranks first?? YOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONS - THE OKLAHOMA SOONERS!! But SMOOTH what about Florida's team speed?? It takes more than speed to stop a freight train that's rolling down hill!! OU MAKES A STATEMENT TONIGHT!!
Score prediction: Oklahoma 38 Florida 20

For you trend lovers: Certain bowl faves of 1.5-8.5 points are a PERFECT 0-19 ATS since 2004 when playing on less than 43 days rest - Rutgers, East Carolina and Clemson failed to cover under this angle. Meanwhile, certain bowl dogs of more than 2 points are a PERFECT 13-0 ATS since 1992 when coming off a SU conference championship win - Va. Tech covered under this angle.
