proman,

you haven't seen Phillip Livas play...there's a reason they call him "Saturday Night Livas"...
True dat...He could very well be the best offensive player on the field...Listen guys, this game is by no means a done deal with me. The key here is how much you think Auburn is going to be improved on offense. This is what I'm still looking at right now. I know they were a mess last season with all of the in house fighting among the coaching staff that really held this team back. They say that it couldn't have gotten any worse for this offense last season, and they hit rock bottom and have nowhere to go but up. The key is if they've gotten all of this straightened out in the short time that Chizik has been there.. And none of us know for sure at this point. Hopefully I can dig up some articles on Auburn for you guys to keep you updated. We've still got another week. And this line could still move enough to change our minds one way or another on this game.

DEAC....The only reason that I'm not playing Tulsa in this first game is a new QB going on the road for the first time and expected to cover 14 points. And going against a new Tulane defensive coordinator who likes to throw in a lot of blitz packages. I really like Todd Graham. And I believe him when he says this could be his most talented team. But it's just a little rule that I have with new QB's trying to cover the spread as a road favorite in their first division 1 game.

Excellent points.

Tulsa is reminding me of Texas Tech lately. They have been pretty much able to plug in any QB with no drop off. Bower nearly won the starting job over a guy who threw for a bazillion yards last year, so I expect that they will have no trouble moving the ball. They went on the road with a new QB against an opponent of similar strength last year and won by 23.

I haven't pulled the trigger on this one yet, and may not even bet it at all. Compelling arguments for both sides as is usually the case.

CSU Rams quarterback returns to the mix in battle for starting job

By Mike Brohard
Loveland Reporter-Herald
FORT COLLINS — Like a road flare will alert you to an accident, T.J. Borcky under center has become the warning sign at Colorado State the quarterbacks are not playing well.

Tuesday, Borcky was back at wide receiver, leaving Grant Stucker and Jon Eastman to their battle.

“He was a receiver only because we practiced a little better at quarterback,” CSU head coach Steve Fairchild said. “That was good. We had Eastman back at full speed, so that helps.”

Eastman, fresh off surgery to his non-throwing left hand, was sporting a red jersey to avoid contact, but he’ll strip that off in short order this week.

A bonus would be if Fairchild felt confident in naming a starter by next week so the offense could start to meld.

For one, receiver Dion Morton would like to see it.

“I’m pretty sure anybody would; I’ll say yes on that,” he said. “Like I said, we’ll take it one step at a time. We need to make sure we know who that starter is. If it takes a long time, it takes a long time. That’s part of life.”

Fairchild also acknowledges the benefit to that, though both of them seeing action against Colorado is not out of the question.

“We’d probably have to do something like that, although I won’t rule out playing both if that’s what the situation merits,” Fairchild said. “I just want to watch a little more this week.”

Eastman said the finger feels good, and it didn’t bother him to take snaps. He also thinks the time away — three days — hurt him in the chase.

Regardless of who wins the battle, Stucker said the battle will always been on as Fairchild proved with his handling of Billy Farris last year.

“You definitely have to learn from the past,” he said. “Last year, Billy struggled in a couple games and he got taken out for a few series or the whole game. You’ve got to realize your spot is never really your spot. You have to keep working hard every day to make sure you have the coach’s confidence.”

If they do, they’ll know rather easily.

“We didn’t have to throw Borcky in there; that’s a starting point,” Fairchild said

Lsu vs Washington

GS, I'm taking a hard look at the LSU game too. You had listed them as one of your top ATS teams this summer and I feel we will get some favorable lines with them being "under the radar" this year. Some are picking them 3rd in the SEC West behind Ole Miss and Alabama. With LSU having conference play the following week vs Vandy (at home), I think Les Miles would want his starters to get all the game experience they can on this warm up game. Correct me if I'm wrong....just my worthless 2 cents.

When push came to shove, I took UGA +6.5. Until they actually show me (both teams) I have to go with UGA. If UGA loses by more than a TD then so be it. I win either way!

I also took Nevada +14.5 - I still think ND sucks out loud, and LSU -16.5 at UW. LSUs D will be much better than last year and Locker is nothing they haven't seen before.

You are 100% correct. LSU is one of my top 10 ATS teams this year. And I think if given a chance Les Miles will run up this score to let everybody know he's back.

I agree on all of these but Notre Dame. I think in that month of practice that Notre dame had before their bowl game they learned alot. They looked like a much different team to me in their bowl. And if you compare what they did to Hawaii compared to what Nevada did on that same field earlier in the season, I think you'll see a pretty wide gap between these two teams.

GS buddy...ND had 4+ weeks to prepare for freaking Hawaii. A team in which they have ten times the talent then. They SHOULD have done to Hawaii what they did indeed do to them...I think it boils down to no running game (not necessarily against Nevada), inconsistent QB play...and lack of quality coaching for ND..

fballplaya...It's not just the 4 weeks to prepare for Hawaii that I'm talking about, it's the 4 extra weeks that Weis had to prepare for next season. This is a big reason why coaches like to schedule easy to get eligible for a bowl. They know how important that extra preparation time is for next season.

Oh I don't disgaree how crucial the extra 4 weeks of preparation and development are. I totally agree. But a lot of people (not saying you) are basing how good they think ND is going to be on how they played in their bowl game...I'm just not seeing it. I am not going to sit here and imply that Nevada goes into South Bend and wins, but people insinuating that they are going to win 10-11 games I think is absurb...just my opinion

I don't really think Notre Dame is going to win 11 games either. Although anything is possible. I think 9 is probably more of a realistic goal. The bottom line is this team will have more talent on the field than 11 out of their 12 opponents this year. And a fair share of these games are played at home. ND also had 38 starts lost to injury last year. Which is pretty high. That, combined with 15 starters returning combined with a -5 TO margin last season tells me there is about an 80-20 chance that the Irish will be improved this season. Probably highly improved. But hey, I've been wrong about these things before. We'll see...That's why they call it gambling.

I'm loving LSU and Georgia. Minnesota looks suspicious with so many people behind them. And I just can't figure out the Baylor/ Wake Forest game.

I'll be the 1st to admit that 40.5 is a lot of points for anyone to lay on a fave, but the Texas game will be somewhere around 56 or 63 to 7 or zero. Texas's defense will be one of the surprises of the season. Even at 56-14, that's still a cover if you're backing UT. Probably a small play for me. Mack, like Les, has something to prove this year. I like backing those types...

I'm hoping Penn State gets it done, I"m gambling that talent can overcome a lack of experience. While Penn State has some new DB's and WR's, some of these guys are really fast. Some gurus are picking Akron to win the MAC, but their QB is an interception machine. It should also be noted that Superstar Royster's backup might play some WR on certain formations. He runs a ridiculous 4.25 40-yard dash. This team is really, really fast. They were also last year in Top 12 scoring offense and scoring defense for the entire country which is tremendous balance. I already played the game a few days ago (Penn State -27) so now I have to build up hype for the game which will increase the action. One week from today in Happy Valley and it is on.

It's probably a good bet...The only thing that would concern me a little is this will be a pretty potent Akron offense for a MAC team. The backdoor possibilty is there. I would probably be more apt to bet against a more helpless MAC offense like a Northern Illinois against Wisconsin.
