GoSooners, you say you have been keeping an eye on the A&M/New Mexico game... From what i hear/seen the QB battle has been heating up between Tannehill and Jerrod. Like you said it will be a wait and see, but if Tannehill get the starting position, id be interested in who can step up and help Fuller at receiver. BTW from what i hear, if Tannehill does not get the job he will be a WR not backup QB, it will be left up to Dorman. Your probably already knew that, but i just wanted to share. However, the RB is heating up as well. True freshman christine michael has been showing a lot of promise and cyrus gray apparently has put on lean muscle over the offseason, how much im not sure but it was enough to note.

Good luck this season. Like the Minn pick

UAB vs Rice??

GS: what is your take about the new QBs? Hard to trust UAB as chalk against anyone. I don't care how many returning starters the Blazers have. QB Webb throws too many interceptions.

I was interested in this game about a month ago because I thought UAB would come out as small home dogs. It didn't happen. I don't like playing on them as chalk either.

Great to see you back here. Minny line really makes me scratch my head, too good to be true and usually burns.

Also on another point, As far as I can remember, South Carolina was minus -14 last year?

That's about a 17 point movement if my memory serves me correctly. I'm one of the kind of guys that loves the SEC and it serves me well during bowl season, that's just too huge of a line movement for USC with a 7-5 record vs. NC St. who was 6-6 last year in weaker conference. Maybe, I'm missing something here and Russell Wilson is the real deal, but I just don't see this at all, although only 1 pick is fairly impressive.

I will take USC all day and hope the line keeps going up in favor of NC St.

linebets...I would be a little surprised if Tannehill knocks Johnson out of the top spot. Sherman has already stated that it would take a humongous feat to knock him out of the starting spot. Not saying it couldn't happen. But looking at Johnson's numbers in just 10 games last season 2435 yards (60%) 21-10 ratio it doesn't sound like it would be in Sherman's best interest to replace him when the real problem with the Aggies was their running game (O-Line problems, injuries) and defense. Something tells me that he's just keeping the competetion there for Johnson to give him an extra push. Tannehill had a good year receiving himself. It just doesn't look like a good move to switch these playeres, even though Tannehill was a HS QB and wants to play the position..

Curious line movement on the Minnesota/Syracuse game.
Unusual...But I think it was just a blip on the screen. I see it's already back up to 6.5 and even 7 in a couple places. I think this line is going to be a little volatile all the way up to kickoff. I don't think the general public outside of these forums has much of a clue what's going on with this game. All they know is Syracuse beat ND at the end of the season and Minnesota lost 5 in a row to end 2008. That's enough to make a few people jump all over Syracuse. Plus many readers of Phil Steele will look at this Syracuse team and see 14 starters coming back, and they no longer have Greg Robinson. Which admittably is a plus. Not knowing that some of those 14 starters for Cuse are no longer there. And they've got all of these underclassmen now trying to learn a brand new system.

Like SoonerBS said, being favorites in this game is a new role for this team. And I've never liked making these kinds of bets until I actually see how they perform in this role. UAB has only been a favorite one time in the last 2 years! And that was against Tulane. A losing program. The thing you have to ask yourself is, one team is coming off a 10-3 season and the other is coming off a 4-8. With the losses of starters from both teams you have to decide where do these two teams meet with where the line is at now? Personally if I was a linesmaker I would have made this game a pickem. Now your looking at -6. More points than any Neil Callaway team has been favored by in his tenure. I also looked at both defenses here. And I'm not so sure that UAB will have the better defense in this game. Rice returns 9 players on that side of the ball. And although they gave up a lot of yards, they also were +15 in TO margin. Which tells me they are disruptive to offenses. UAB looked good on defense towards the end of the 2008 season. But consider the teams they played. UCF, EC and Tulane. The 3 worst offenses in the conference. Before those games they gave up 70 to Southern Miss and 45 a piece to Houston and Tulsa. I still think they have a ways to go. That's why they are still picked last in the CUSA East.

I'm not sure if I'm going to mess with this game. South Carolina and the old ball coach aren't getting a bit of publicity. And I've always considered this a good thing. On the other hand big things are going to be expected from NCST this year after the way they performed in the second half of 2008. But what bothers me is this team won 9 games ATS last year. All as dogs in their games. Now they are in the favorites role against an SEC team. I still think with Russell Wilson at the helm that this team is capable of covering. But I'm not crazy about the 4 point spread in what could be a low scoring game. Plus teams who beat the spread the year before (8 wins or more ATS) are only 10-10 ATS the last two years in their first game of the season. So it's a 50-50 proposition with these teams. You know they aren't going to get a big break with the lines two years in a row.

The Buffs defense is the only reason why this is a small play for me. But I think Cody Hawkins has been critized a little more than he deserves. If you remember, he had a pretty good freshman season and then suffered the sophomore jinx last year trying to perform behind a much injured O-Line. I still think there are a good number of young QB's out there who would take over 3000 yards passing (57%) 22-17 ratio in only 13 starts. And I believe Hawkins backup could be even better.

well, in all fairness, buffs have had inj. and a lack of talent at the wideouts.

i think fairchild has breathed some life into a csu program that had become stagnant under lubick, as good as he was for the rams overall.

it should be a good game.

Great info on the Minnesota game. Combine what you put here with the fact that someone who has been playing basketball for the past 4 years is starting as their QB, I'm all over it.

I'm also liking La Tech over Auburn and Nevada at +14 over ND. I don't like the Nev game as much under the 14 obviously, but it definitely makes it playable for me.

To all the Minnesota backers, please remember that the Minnesota defensive coordinator is now one Kevin Cosgrove...you may remember him as the architect of that great Nebraska defense of 2007...yeah the one that gave up 76 to Kansas, 65 to Colorado, I could go on and on. If I were to play that game, I'd play the over...

Thanks for sharing this information. How Cosgrove got another job after the Nebraska 2007 fiasco is beyond me. The Over is very logical.

Yeah, but Syracuse hired Rob Spence as their new OC. The Spence factor could cancel out the Cosgrove factor.

The coordinators are a wash in this game and won't have anything to do with the outcome. Cosgove didn't do well under Callahan. But had some great years under Alvarez at Wisky. Just be grateful that Callahan and Robinson aren't the coordinators you have to put your money on in this game.

Many of you will disagree with this. But these are the teams who I think will get WAY too much love this year on the lines, and the bettors will come out disappointed in more games than they win.:

Ole Miss
Bama
NCST
Rutgers
Baylor
Okie State
Oklahoma
Penn State
Cal
TCU

Every one of these teams won 8 or more games ATS last season. And for those of you who weren't here in the forum durning the summer, the chances of any of these teams repeating that feat are remote. We only get an average of about one ATS repeater a season in college football. And something like 20 teams beat the spread last season (8 wins or more ATS) Play at your own risk, or pick your spots with these teams, because more than likely they won't get a break with the lines.
