I just don't get the whole thing with Woods fans. Yes, we know that you love Tiger, and to each their own. It just seems that they feel the need to gain a form of validation, almost like they are twisting people's arms to get them to 'say uncle' and admit that Tiger is the greatest ever. I have no problem debating the greats of the game in any sport, but the Tiger fanboys insist on using his recent (and assumed future) performance (not impressive in my view) to justify their argument.

Is it this way with any other athlete?

As you can see with this thread....the exact same thing can be said or people that don't like tiger. No matter what tiger does, or how many tourn he wins (94ish for those of you that don't follow the game but still feel the need to voice your lack of knowledge) it won't be good enough. People that don't like tiger have are really good at keeping their mouth shut when he wins but boy do they come out of the closet when he finishes 2nd and talk about how bad he sucks.

And BTW, If you people seriously think the players were better 20-30 years ago, than good lord yall are Freaking idiots. There were 10 guys with a chance to win back then. There is a full field and they are all capable of having "their week" and winning, unless tiger is on his best that is as we have seen 94 times.

How big was the field in the event he won?

16 players at chevron. Full field well over 100 when he got second at Aussie open. Full field at Dubai when he got third....and your point?

He has a win, a 2nd in an open and a 3rd at Dubai. Those are his last 3 events and results..let me guess, that's not impressive to somebody with your level of golf knowledge?

I can see your point in that Woods is a very polarizing figure. People have strong opinions one way or another about the guy, that's for sure. There is no arguing the fact that he put together the most dominant period of pro golf ever at the turn of the century. Was that spell enough to get him over the top as the best ever? I don't know, but it's a heck of an argument. For me, though I will give Woods his due for his past exploits on the course, I will be the first to admit that I've never liked his personality. Not even considering the infidelity stuff, he just has always came off as a douchebag to me. My major problem as it stands is that we are now coming into season 3 post meltdown. Yet again, we are hearing how greatness is on the cusp from both Woods' camp and his fan club. It's put up or shut up for me. I'm tired of hearing this then getting excuses (injuries, swing change, 'so what, he's still ahead of Jack's pace, etc.), he needs to start winning big tournaments again before I take him seriously. I'm sick of this 'he's close' nonsense.

I can respect that post, good post my friend. I also agree its time for him to start showing up and in his last 3 tournys, he has shown up with 3 top 3 finishes. Yes, up to this point in his life he has played the greatest golf ever played as he is ahead of jacks pace in every category that matters. There is nothing to argue about that for the bashers (but they can't realize that because they have the assumption if tiger doesn't beat 144 guys every single he he sucks.) Just a secret for them, It's kinda hard to beat 144 players every single week these days. Even harder to win 7 tourn in a row, or 60% of tourn you enter for a 6 year period, but the bashers don't realize that because they don't know what they are talking about

While I do think tiger is kinda a douche as well with his nicknames for all his friends and stuff. I do like his attitude on the course, I like that he expect to be better than people. That's the attitude a lot of the true greats have in any sport. The o shucks ill hit a better shot next time stuff doesn't work doesn't keep you on the top of leaderboards with the amount of good golfers playing today. Even rory said last year he needs to get a cocky attitude when he plays golf, he won the us open the week he said that. I know some guys that can seriously play some good for amateurs and everyone of them think their shit doesn't stink when ethey play....I've never met a good golfer that isn't conceited on the course. Lack of confidence means you suck at golf

Nicklaus was beating Palmer, Player, Casper, Trevino, Watson........

Tiger was beating Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk, and Phil

Put the group in column A with today's equipment against the group in column B, who wins?

You left out a bunch of great golfers with those two lists....you are being selective...

Taylor, we have had these threads now for how long... Thanksgving 09 I think ...Tiger hasn't won a official event since... we havent kept our mouth shut because he hasn't won...Your being kinda defensive here anyway...Most of these posts are debating him being great now, which he is not....20-30 years from now will you be one of the freaking idiots that think Tiger was better then who is currently playing ?

Had em for awhile now, it gives me someone to debate with when my bro in law isn't around. He could fit right in with you guys. Yea, he hasn't won an "official event" yet, but he is getting awfully close now for a guy that's "washed up". You know his results in his last 3 entered tourn.....3 top 3's including a win not bad if you ask me. But what would I know?

And no, I won't be one of those guys then either. Look Im not against jack at all. But when a guy come in and takes over the sport the way tiger did and surpasses what jack had done at this point in his career, then yea, I'm a believer......with that said and as I have said before, if tiger doesn't surpass jacks major record by the time tiger retires then you are right, tiger is #2. Time will tell, id imagine tiger has 12-13 years left in him

Nobody ever got to where Tiger was in the eary 2000's.....it was just an unbelievable run....slipping from unreal to superb isn't all that bad....When Jack says that Tiger has the best game that he has ever seen, then that's good enough for me...

Jack's a very humble and modest guy, doubt if he really feels that way, especially now

We also keep hearing what Tiger has done and how Tiger has surpaased Jack up til now... I can tell you this, Jack never had 2+ years like Tiger just had, to where he slipped to 50 in the rankings and wasn't a factor ...

First of all there weren't world ranking back then since rankings concern you.
Did jack ever tear his ACL? Did he ever get publicly emberrassed by his own doings as one of the most influential persons on the planet? That's not an excuse for tiger, but that's just what happened and since your a facts guy, that's a fact.

Did jack ever hold all four major titles at once? Did jack ever win 7 tournaments in a row?

As for your question, I honestly don't know, nor care enough to look it up. Although, I'm pretty sure jack endured a draught or two in his career, but what would that matter anyways. It's all about gearing up and playing well at the right time, the great ones can do it, the good ones can't

You are absolutely correct with this statement, since there were no World rankings during Jack's era... Can't drop if you are not ranked...

there might not have been rankings, but Jack didn't dissapear either.... No way jack had years like this in his career..Jack had injuries too if you want to throw out excuses.. Jack has 18 major titles Tiger 14, pretty much end of the debate

I couldn't agree more with that. Difference between the two of them is tiger is 36!! Shit, with all the love you give jack just imagine how much love you will be giving tiger if he continues this pace!
