i would imagine their are a lot guys in this thread that probably never saw jack in his prime, or even at all. when he was at his best, they use to say the other players would just fall down the leaderboard..

sound like to what they USE to say about the 2nd best player a few years ago ?

also comical to me to see guys in here try and bash jack's competition ..

When I was growing up, you were either an Arnold Palmer fan or a Jack Nicklaus fan....I was a fan of Arnolds, but as I grew older, I came to respect one of the greatest to play the game in Jack Nicklaus....I am just happy to have seen Jack and Tiger at their greatest....and nobody was happier than me to see Jack win a major at age 46....

I don't think anyone is really bashing Jack's competition. Most(including me) are just saying that the competition now is much deeper than it was when Jack played. Sure, its easy to point out all the majors won by players during Jack's era but to try and compare these results to players of this era is a bit ridiculous since the players now are not finished with their careers yet. Who is to say guys like McIlroy or Keegan Bradley, or Adam Scott or any of the young guns playing now wont go on and win a bunch of Majors themselves. And by the way, I did see Jack and Arnie play many times in person during their careers...

The sarcasm in this post is what makes it so brilliant. Luke Donald is the most consistant golfer in the world, ill give him that. But Donald doesn't win the the big tourn often for two reasons, #1he has to play his absolute best good he can play tee to green to win and #2. He doesn't take the chances needed to to take to win the big tourn because one, he isn't good enough or long enough to waste his time taking the chances and two he prob couldn't pull the shots off if he was longer. Donald is a joke of a #1 player in the world, plain and simple. He has a great short game and he can POP it out there 280 yards, his problem is this isn't 1980 anymore. Guys hit irons 240 yards now a days, goes back to the golf has evolved stuff, they are athletes today not slobs. He is nothing but a glorrified David Toms (whom I love BTW)

Rory and Tiger are far and away the two best golfers in the world. Tiger has proved it 94 times, we will see if rory learns how to handle the pressure cause so far he just has talent.
My top five in the world are.
#1 tiger because nobody can give me a reason not to have him there
2. Rory, has the talent to take over tiger but can't handkerchief the pressure it something since he has 5 measly wins in 4 years
3. Westwood....because I like him, would like to have a beer with him and he is consistent
4. Stricker....shortgame, all I need to say
5. Jason Day...be making this same arguement between day and rory in 10 years

Dustin Johnson is #6

Probably lost some credibility here having Tiger as #1 when he hasn't won anything in 2-3 years or a major in how long.. With this kind of thought process you probably have Federer at #1 still in tennis , am I right ?

Eh, tennis isn't exactly a sport followed by me.
I'll stick by my tiger #1 in the world until somebody gives me a reason not to have him there. I mean the guy was top 5-10 most influential persons in the world a couple years ago, his world came crashing down by his own doings, he changed his swing, changed swing coach, battled injuries, battled former employees trying to ruin his rep.....but you know what, in the last 3 months there is an obvous change in tiger, from his demeanor in interviews to his play on the course, its obvious.....and he now has 3 top 5 finishes including one win in his last 3 events....and a presidents cup victory to boot.

You boys keep yourself entertained by trying to downgrade the greatest golfer you have ever seen. 60 something post in this thread in 3 days, you tiger bashers just can't find enough excuses. Pull out the resumes and see for yourself

I guess I should correct my previous post......that's 3 top 3, not top 5 like I said above, finishes in tigers last 3 events, including one win and a presidents cup victory. Anybody else done that good in their last 3 events? I didn't think so

Some of us are living in the present bro ! Nobody is downgrading his past achievements, they were awsome no doubt,, but that doesn't have anything to do with today... Wasn't Tiger 2-3 in the Presidents Cup, and with the luck of the draw clinched the cup ? Tiger didn't carry the presidents Cup team ! You might want to look at the results again bro ! We can relook at this thread if he does something newsworthy....

Nicklaus was beating Palmer, Player, Casper, Trevino, Watson........

Tiger was beating Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk, and Phil

Put the group in column A with today's equipment against the group in column B, who wins?

And there is not a single person on the earth who can predict who would win no matter what equipment they used. Keep in mind that with the equipment changes over the years that courses changed dramatically also. Did column A play courses that consistently were over 7,000 yards in length? I don't think so...

Trying to compare 2 eras in any sport is very difficult to do. There is really no correct answer, just opinions...

I just don't get the whole thing with Woods fans. Yes, we know that you love Tiger, and to each their own. It just seems that they feel the need to gain a form of validation, almost like they are twisting people's arms to get them to 'say uncle' and admit that Tiger is the greatest ever. I have no problem debating the greats of the game in any sport, but the Tiger fanboys insist on using his recent (and assumed future) performance (not impressive in my view) to justify their argument.

Is it this way with any other athlete?
