oh and what ive learned from this thread...same as the other 89 tiger jack threads weve had...........

those who perosnally like tiger think he is great and as god or better than jack

those who dont like tiger dont think he is great and isnt as good as jack

YAWN

i dont expect the next 89 tiger jack threads to be any different......our opinions whether we like it or not are skewed by our personal feeling towards either jack or tiger period............

and the fact that Jack has 18 majors and Tiger 14

It's not even comparable to what Tiger and those who played pre-70's had to go through. Look at the prize money, the mode of travel, the course conditions, the equipment.

Has Tiger ever had to get in his car and drive from tournament to tournament? The courses these players use now are in pristine condition. The equipment and balls make the game even easier for them.

Tiger is the best of his generation, nothing more.

It's amazing that Nicklaus won 18 majors, and even then had 20 runner up finishes.

What will always separate Jack from Tiger is professionalism. Jack was considerate and always had good things to say when he lost about the other players. Tiger is an asshole when he loses and cries like the bitch he is.

Jack and Arnie were no choir boys....the press protected them back in their era.....

I've only got Tiger at 71 career wins. So he hasn't caught Snead yet. Another thing about Snead is he was a good 5 or 6 years older than Tiger and Jack was before he even played his first tour event at 25. Which makes his accomplishments that much greater.

He has 71 PGA tour wins..... 94 wins for him total as a professional that I was including, WGC events, euro tour etc...

a fairer comparison might be how they match through age36( tigers age)..14 majors each......tiger 71 wins jack 61.........a virtual dead heat..............maybe tigers is slightly better............its easy to spin........but it goes to what i said you like tiger or you dont period

I think Sam Snead's 82 career tour wins record is a very overlooked accomplishment. This guy was very talented. And had one of the prettiest swings in golf. IMO a golfer shouldn't be judged by just how many majors he's one. Just winning a tournament is difficult enough. But 82 of them in the short period a professional golfer is at his peak is simply amazing.

i think they should be judged by majors.

in what sport do we not judge em that way?
nascar? NFL? NCAA?

as of right now and always has been Jack is the best but arguable, and until tiger surpases him he will continue to be #2 all time

To answer the thread question, how far has Tiger fallen if you're excited because he had put together 11 solid rounds?

I agree with you somewhat. But the problem with golf and sports in general is no two players are alike in the way they played out their sports careers... Some have been called the greatest, but have had shortened careers. So we'll never know for sure.. And others have been called great because they may have scored more points or won more tournaments than everybody else. But may have played much longer than the average player. In golf many say that Hogan was the best, and would have won more majors if not for a tragic car accident. Many say there is no argument, Bobby Jones was the best. But he hung up his golf shoes before he even went professional. So it's all relative. And whether Tiger comes back strong this year or not, The Redeye's and the Taylor's will be arguing this point in here for the next 15 years, since that's how long it will take Tiger to finish out his career on the PGA Tour. So there really is no sense arguing about this until it's all said and done. Then we can look back and compare.

I agree with this statement. Our arguing is a waste of time, but its kinda fun and it beats the Hell out of sweating out basketball games. Right now all we know is Tiger has had the greatest 14 year run of golf ever played, I think he is at 16 years now, and still ahead of jack but not by much because tiger dissapeared for 2 years. But Jack still holds 18 trophies to tigers 14. And I agree if tiger doesn't reach 18 then he is #2, regardless of the rest of the resume. If tiger ties him at 18 and that's it, then I would have tiger ahead of jack because tigers resume is better than jacks

I don't know man ! Jack has so many more runnerups and 3rd place finishes then Tiger in majors. But we'll see. I wouldn't call it a 14 year run either. He hasn't won since 09. Outside of the Masters in 97 its really been only a 9-10 year run right ?

Im not 100% on this and I'm not gonna look it up, but I think tiger won 14 majors and 71 PGA tour events in his first 14 years. Plus all the WGC Events he has won, it all adds up to 94 wins in 14 years. Jack had 73 PGA tour wins in 25 years I believe, with 18 major trophies. I THINK this is Tiger 16th year on tour, I was calling his FIRST 14 years the greatest golf we have ever seen, not the last two years.

If you really want to break it down, you can see tiger gets on hot streaks just like all golfers do when they play well. The diff between tiger and all other golfers has been tiger has been able to maintain a hot streak for weeks, months at a time, like when he held all four majors at one time, or when he won 7 tourn in a row etc.....I'm not knocking on Phil, just using as an example. He can't maintain good play over a long period of time. Sure he is one of the best players in the world, prob the best player in the world for 3 days last week, when he plays like he did the last 3 rounds last week, but he can never seem to maintain it. Tiger has gone on long stretches of just having his day, the other guys just have a week here or there where they play their asses off......I dnt know if that makes sense or not

I'm just saying he wasn't on a 14 year run.. He has been on the tour 16 years, your right, but he hasn't been on this 14 year great run .Basically is was a 10 year run from 99-09 with the exception of the 97 Masters. Lets call it what is !

In 14 years he won 71 PGA tourn, 93 total tournaments and 14 majors.......you don't call that a good run but you sweat all over jack's crotch? How does that make sense?

I'm just saying that his great run was from 99-09 ! Not saying he wasn't playing for more then those 10 years, but before 99, he only won the Masters, after 09 he has been .......... That would be like saying that Jack had a great run from 62-98 when basically it was 62-80. I know he won the Masters in 86 but he wasn't great from 80-86.. Not sure why your having a hard time figuring this out.. Just because he tees it up doesn't mean he is on a great run

Just because he only won 1 major during 97 and 98 does not mean he was still not playing great these 2 years and these years can be included in the streak of years taylor is talking about. In fact, you could even include 96 when he actually turned pro, which I think taylor was including also. He played only 7 tournaments that year as a pro and still qualified for the tour championship winning 2 of those 7 tournaments. In 97 besides the Masters he won 3 other times, had 10 top 10's, was 2nd in scoring and was the leading money winner. In 98, he had 2 wins, 14 top 10's, was 2nd in scoring and finished 4th on money list. So, from 1996-2009, that's 14 years where he was dominant, so yes it was a 14 year run...

His run was 99-09 ! Just because you tee it up, doesn't qualify it has a great run..
