Little Johhny hung mostly in the DI. and got order horses out of New York. Combos you had to play in Q boxes. He was well known for a long time through the early 90's when I left the scene. Today I have no idea where he is. To get down a nickel house Q. you had to hit 2 or 3 places depending on odds.

Dr.Brown's Root Beer or Creme Soda and a kosher dog at Horseshoe..I can't eat matza ball, even though those that do liked it there.

Who was, and which group did the cute blonde punk-rock runner with glasses belong to..I forget?

I used to talk to her sometimes when in Binion's..her boyfriend was also a runner at another hotel she told me.

She even had me run with her to her deposit box to stash her sports chips at the end of the day once, we helped each other out for a week once during March Madness, with teams(all the runners in there helped each other behind their bosses backs).

I don't think she did at that point and time?

Nick ran the SB at the time, and the Chinaman was on a tear back then.

What's his story Wil, he was playing into Binion's in Tahoe-Reno?

All I knew was he made the NBA lines dance!

All I know is he either did his own work, or had somebody handicapping for him, either way, he was very good. Rumor had it he never played with any books other than the legal kind in Nevada. People would wait to see the number move while he was still at the window and get on the horn to all their outs. The race was on to get the number. He used to move a NBA game as much as two points in most shops. Where I worked we took one pop and moved, unless some slow clerk was'nt paying attention and got double popped, never a popular move with management.

Not that I know of. He could have beards and be keeping a low profile, but Chianman plays as we once knew them are gone.

Speaking of deli sandwiches, many may not know about this because they were only open a short time, but the LUXOR had a terriffic deli by their sportsbook that was only open a short time. HUGE sandwiches!!

Guys, Katherine Manix from the HS racebook passed away just a month or so ago. She was a great lady. She worked at the Stardust prior to the Horseshoe.....ScottyS

She could be nice, mean, and funny, all at the same time. I thought she was great.

Thanks for the news.

mvbski, you mentioned pancho putting the bite on all who walked thru the door. Churchill also had a doorman, another excerpt from my book:
.....Most of the Churchill bandits and scammers were harmless. More to the point they couldn’t pull it off. Charlie Brown, who had a perpetual frown, would go from race to sports cashier making change hoping to catch a mistake. Paul, the homeless doorman, just appeared one day and began opening the door for people. It was a nice gesture but that wasn’t his motive, he would ask “you want to buy some shoes”. Homeless Paul would then proceed to show you an old beat up shoe catalog. We just went right by, however some of the tourists didn’t know how to deal with our scruffy doorman/shoe salesman......

Charlie Brown, there is another name from the past.

He always needed to wake up and smell the beans I thought. The coffee beans that is.
