I lived in the Jockey Club in the early eighties, on the 7th floor of the back tower. I could see Little Ceasar's from my window along with what was then the MGM Grand. I still miss cr ossing the strip to jot down the line every morning at Mayday's place. What I used it for is another story, and even more memories. I can also recall Mayday had to have the dirtiest chips in the town in that little casino.

Herbie was at Celebrity Deli that day also, I was flattered to meet them all, but I didn't have the balls to tell him thanks at the time, for all the plays I'd had benefited from of his, via one of his movers on the QT..he may have had a kiniption?

LC had dust hanging from the mildewing accoustical tiled ceiling, and what about that carpet worn away at the door from the runners?

If you weren't "in the know", you would have thought that the owners of Little Caesar's were about to be evicted,

I worked with Herbie for about 8 years and he would never give you a game or fight but he would give you little hints I learned over the years to figure out who he really liked

Anyone remember Joe R who ran for President of The United States? Square business. He bet Bob Martin real $$$ he would take two states. His Party was the "Peace Party" with headquaters in The Casba Hotel downtown. Another upset, HE LOST and payed up. Ray Vera beat the hell out of Joe in Churchill one day and Joe ran to the phones outside and called Metro (then the Sheriff), The FBI & Secret Service demanding protection since he was a Presidential Canditate. The LV Trama Unit came and took Joe away (he was riding shotgun) eventually to the nut house. Joe didn't care he booked out of there, perfect cover......ScottyS

Horseshoe, you are so right. Churchill, and also Little Caesers I'm sure, were on a month to month basis. It was nerve racking for us working stiffs who always thought each check was the last one. After a few years it became a moot point with us.....ScottyS

An excerpt from Chad Millmans book......

"One slow afternoon at Leroy's Sports Book, Barry the Donut Man bet Hungry Hal he could eat more donuts. The over/under for both was 38, which they covered by one when Hal polished off 20 donuts while the Donut could only muster 19."

McCarthy thats right could'nt remember the name. Moran was the guy that ran the hookers off the strip if I recall. I had a couple of favorites that strolled the area just past the DI. past the Rose Bowl up to the corner of where Spring Mtn. turned into Sands. Rat bastard.

wilheim, that was a long stroll, most didn't have to walk that far. In those days the hookers were mostly stand up (no pun) girls. LV WAS a GREAT place. Oh well.....ScottyS
