valuebets, you should be proud of yoruself, for hangin in there, this shit aint easy, but we have proven that it can be done,15 pounds of fat off your body is a great start, what is that about 25% of what you want to lose? i think at around my first 15 pound loss,is when i could tell that my clothes were beginnin to fit better...vb,250 or i guess i should say 249,was a huuuge psychological milestone for me,for some reason,it bothered the hell out of me to weigh 1/4 of a thousand pounds...right now,im still at 225,but im gettin slimmer in my stomach and torso every day,,,i took a few days off (from walkin)last week, buti started back monday....vb,have you tried weight trainin yet? if you havent, and get a little bored with walkin,i have found it to be a fantastic supplement,to the cardio, the thing i like about the strength trainin is,i dont have to leave my house,,i wait until 7 or 8 oclock in the evenin, when it has cooled down to about 70,and in between snacks, and every 3rd inning of a baseball game,(hehehe)i lift weights, and i enjoy the heck out of it,believe it or not,it is very relaxing....valubets,when you are out there bustin yer ass,be sure and remember that old hognuts is pullin for ye.....'keep the continue'

Yeah Baby!!! The Big Hog is BACK!!!

Mr.HogNut, I have been commiting to work out and eat less for about nearly 2 months now. As of today, I'm down to 245 and you're right on point!!! At this moment, I really don't see any major physical difference but my pants and shirt fit ALOT better.

My routine right now is to walk 3 miles and jog 1 mile at a nearby school track in the blazing afternoon heat with my workout sweat jacket on. It's probably not a good idea but I do make sure I bring enough water with me and rest if I feel light headed. Its usually a 1 hr walk/jog. I'm not sure if losing water mass contributes to losing calories but it seems to be working for me. I would like to hear your opinion on this approach.

I'm thinking about adding weight training into my routine. Would love to hear your suggestions and what your current weight training program is consist of.

vb,doin 4 miles in 1 hr is darned good,as long as youre gettin enough water, and itsonly 1 hr,i wouldnt worry bout the heat, unless its just ungodly hot,as for the weights...i drilled holes in 20 pound concrete blocks, took the handles off some gallon buckets, put the handles on the blocks, taped em up,and i use those,to exercise my arms,i put one in each hand, and walk to my mailbox and back, takes me about 6 minutes round trip, and its a good workout, cause the road is downhill goin, and uphill comin back...im in the process of fixin me some 35 pounders, whewww,,thatll be a total of 70 pounds...i challenged myself to never sit the blocks down,or take a break,on my trek down and back up the hill, and now that my arms have gotten stronger,it aint no problem with the 40 pounds, but ive got a feelin that it might be a while, before i can tote that 70 pounds,to the mailbox and back,hehehe....ive also got a weight bench, for bench presses,i do curls with the concrete blocks,,ive got a bar with concrete blocks on it,that i lift over my head....one thing i have learned is,if you get some exercise,5 or 6 days a week,(at least)and about once a week, push yourself as hard as you possibly can, you'll get stronger, and leaner, its very gradual, and sometimes you will think there is nothin happenin, but if you stick with it,its amazing how the composition of our bodies change...i had a sister to pay me a visit the other night, who hadnt seen me in several months, and she was shocked at my appearance, not just because she told me she was shocked, but by the look on her face,,,her exact words were,'lord have mercy, how did you lose so much weight"hehehe...i have got to admit, that felt pretty damned good...'keep the continue'

Mr.HogNuts, thanks for the input. I also have a few spare concrete blocks lying around in my garage, so I'll look into making it into weights.

That must be an unbelieveable feeling to see the reaction on your sister's face. I just got dumped about a month ago by my girlfriend, I think the reasons she gave me was a combination of been massively overweight and spending way too much time betting on NBA, but whatever. I know I'm losing weight for myself and my health but I can't wait to see her reaction 5 months from now :aktion033.

made it out to the soccer field, but stayed out of the forest, after i read that valuebets did 4 miles in 1hr,it reminded me that one of my long long term goals, has always been to do 4 miles in 60 minutes, sooo i walked a warmup mile,(untimed) then i jogged 1 mile in 13:40,walked and jogged a second mile in 14:28,then did a cooldown mile in 16:27,,,as far as i can recall, thats about the best ive done....2 miles=28:08..and 3 miles=44:35...sooo,it looks like my stamina.or lack of,is what is holdin me back,in the next few weeks,im gon to bust my ass,(like today)and then if i need to let my body recover, ill omit the walkin, joggin, and just do the weights, and within a week or two,i think i can get er done....my doc said, ifyou can do 4 miles pr hr,in a cardiovascular sense, youre doin great..the primary reason this is a goal of mine is that i was a heavy smoker, most of my life,i quit 10 yrs ago,but my lungs have been compromised....but that stupidity is in the past.....the rest of my life,is goin to be,the best of my life!!! valuebets, you asked if water weight was permanent, and the answer is no,i already tried that trick,hehehe..id weigh myself, after my workout, and for a while,i thought i was kickin ass,but i finally realzed, that every ounce of water i lost in the mornin,id gain it back, that day,night...what works for me is weighun myself at the same time, every day...i still get on the scales after my workout, but i sort oftake it with a grain of salt, cause i know ill gain 2 or even 3 lbs the rest of the day....'keep the continue

#2, glad to see you back on your thread; you really are an inspiration to many of these posters; didn't get to Berea as planned; however, i will be through there Monday of next week; am bringing female friend; are you married or do you have female friend; we'd like to have the two of you join us to climb the pinnacle if weather permits; if not, maybe we could meet at the coffee shop on the square; sounds like you're really doing well with the weights; that's a very important part of a fitness program especially at our age; we need to keep as much muscle and strength as we can; as you and all your posters now say, keep the continue

its 7:23 here in ky,im headin out to the soccer field,to see if i can improve on thursdays 4 mile effort,,,goin to see what effect,a full day of recovery, has on my stamina,strength,etc...im sort of gettin in to doin the strength trainin one day,and cardio the next, from what ive read,in order to lose fat, annnnd not lose lean muscle mass, that is the ticket....the hiit ,knocks my ass out,and then im too tired to lift weights, while i realize that the hiit is good for me,im not in good enough shape,to do it as much as i want to...unless im takin a break, that my body tells me i need, aint no way in hell im goin to not do cardio, less than every other day,and if i do the intensive trainin right,it takes too long to recover....after i get through with that soccer field today, itll look like a plowed field!!!hehehe...let hit it,annnd oh uh,bythe way,,,'KEEP THE CONTINUE"

well,i didnt think i would do it today, but i did.. didnt do a warmup mile, just decided that to conserve energy,id walk as fast as i possibly could, and see how close i could get to 15 minutes pr mile, the first mile was 15:32,the 2nd 15:03the 3rd mile,i was at 45:47... that only left me 14 minutes and 13 seconds, to get in under 60 minutes, and i knew i couldnt make it walkin, when i say that i was givin it all i had, thats exactly what i mean,i was pushin so hard,i didnt even take the time to wipe the sweat off my forehead,or the fog out of my shades, and although i wear a sweatband(my 4x tshirt sleeves,,hehehe)i sweat like a mfer...iow,my tongue was hangin out...up until then,i had walked every step,so i decided to give joggin a try,and see if it gave my legs a break, and i think it did, cause i finished the 4th mile at 59 minutes flat...yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha..i then walked a cooldown mile, when i finished and checked the time,my cooldown mile took me 23 minutes,,included in that last mile are, deep knee bends, walkin backwards for 1/4 mile,etc...here is the part that freaks me out, about that 23 minute last mile...when i first started walkin,it took me 23 minutes plus to do a mile, and i was givin it all i had...right now,im still sort of in disbelief, that i have done, what i have done,,,all my life,i have wondered what it would feel like,to do 4 miles in 1 hr, i have been bustin my ass almost every day,for 7 months(june 22nd,will be 28 weeks)and more than anything else, this is what i wanted to accomplish, and heres why...,if you can maintain 15 minutes a mile for one hour, and just keep doin, what youve been doin, you are goin to eventually be in damned good shape..

,its great to know, that all ive got to do,is maintain my present level of physical fitness, eat like a human being should, and in another 6 months or so,i will weigh exactly what i should weigh...a huge milestone, for old hognuts......'keep the continue"

valuebets, when you said that you did 4 miles in an hour,it got me to thinkin, that 4 miles an hr,was a long term goal of mine,it had been a month or 2 since i tried it,and
so i decided to go at it again, and now i have accomplished the most meaningful, long term goal,(other than losin the fat)that i had set for myself...it reminds me of the time seymour asked me,whether i timed myself, how long it took me to do a mile,etc....it got me to thinkin, that very day,i went to walmart, and bought myself an $8 watch,(its a stopwatch, and regular watch, all in one, hell of a deal for 8 bucks)and the next day,i started timin myself, and it helped me to get an accurate idea of where i was,and whether or not,i was improving...foundou that i was goin much slower, than i thought..ever since then, about once a week,i seriously challenge myself, and if im not doin better his week, than last week,i know its time for a change..thanks,and KEEP THE CONTINUE

Today I wanted to run 2 miles and see how I would do. In high school i could do 2 miles under 12 minutes easily. Today went out to the track and I jogged 2 miles in 16 minutes. I am going to aim to get back under 12 minutes. Its going to be tough but with the right work ethic and determination I will get there. keep the continue

5star,thats a great time, youre obviously in good condition, but i have always heard, that 4 miles in an hour,is the benchmark, for cardiovascular conditioning....do you lift weights? ive found the strength training to be as much of a challenge, and as rewarding,as the cardio..... what s your height and weight?.....very impressive stats......'keep the continue'
