spent the mornin, workin in the yard, waterin veggies,hammerin,nailin,etc...got a little tired, and although it was still hot, didnt want to wait until it cooled off,was afraid if i got in the recliner, and the ac,(i dont have ac in the garage, where i spend most of my time, only cool 1 room, and have 3 tvs in it,got 2 tvs in the garage, and one set, thats on a tv stand with wheels, hooked up to directv,(my other sets are on cable)that i move from the garage to the air conditioned room, just about every day).hehehe....anywho.i took the same route, i took yesterday,,47 minutes..didnt try to go very fast, was too fkn hot...but,im not concerned about dehydratin, theres a water fountain at the tennis court(i go right past it)and one at the edge of the soccer field, and on this route,i go right by it..works out pretty good, cause i cant stand to carry anything, when im walkin, tried it once, and it drove me crazy..thats another reason,i like to go to the forest, its cool enogh in there, that if you drink a pint of water, before you take off,you dont need any til ye get back home.........its time for another edition of...........WELCOME TO MRHOGNUTS KITCHEN!!!.. just finished off about half a watermelon,,,and for this evenin,i filled my ice trays up with, first,a layer of yogurt, then a layer of pneapple, then another layer of yogurt...in a couple hours,im goin to close my eyes and pretend is a pineapple milkshake,,hehehe...actually,im gettin into the frozen yogurt thing...last night,i had two of those small containers of yogurt and blackberries, stuck it in the freezer for a while, and it was delcious..it sort of gives you the icecream texture, withot all the high fat content.....'keep the continue'

played 18 holes today and spent two hours in the gym doing weights and cardio....my shoulders and arms are a little sore, only because this is my first week with the weights...my buddy at the gym tells me that weights help burn fat and keeps your metabolism going long after than cardio....feeling good again after 2 weeks of goofing off...

i haven't read your entire thread hognuts, but i have a perspective that you should look into.

My wife exercises all the time and eats real good, but basically stays right at the same weight. she was disgnosed with a underactive thyroid, and one of the symptoms is no ability to lose weight.

have you checked into that with routine blood tests?

brock,i could lose 25 lbs in a couple months,if i wanted to do it like that, but i dont want to lose any muscle,or look like one of those guys who lose a lot of weight, be skinny as a rail, and look unhealthy..liftin weights takes alot out of ye,for the first month or so,and it has taken away from the time i was doin cardio...i havent lost any weight in a couple months, but there is no comparison to the shape i was in 2 months ago,and the shape im in today..im in a hell of a lot better condition, and i didnt sacrifice any muscle,i gained it...while i doubt there is a problem with the thyroid, ive got a physical scheduled for aug 2nd,and im lookin forward to comparin my health assessment stats from last year,to this year...'keep the continue'

yesterday i did bench presses, today i did squats and curls, and this afternoon, went for a 50 minute walk...fixed some scrambled eggs, they were very tasty, after i went out to the garden and got some tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and onions....gardenin is a lot of work, but it sure is worth it...aint nothin like just goin out in the yard and gettin ye some fresh veggies..yesterday i had an icecream cone, some kind of struddle type of deal..wasnt as good as last weeks peanut butter one.....speakin of peanut butter.while i was in the store last night,i somehow wound up in the fkn peanut butter isle..hehehe..started to get a small jar,but after lookin down at my gut,and takin note of how far its gone down..i shook myself real hard, and got the hell out of there..might go check out the health food store, and get some all natural pb,maybe that wont set off the cravings, that the regular stuff does.....checked blood pressure after walkin, and it was 118 over 62..havent taken any bp meds for a few days...sure lookin forward to not havin to take the lisinopril, needin help for things out of your control is one thing, but havin to take it just because i was too lazy to exercise,is horseshit.................... Well decided to wake up early on this wonderful Sunday Morning in Chicago. It is 4:30 in the morning and yes im nuts but whatever I have a busy day ahead of me, heading out to the TASTE OF CHICAGO and then the Cubs/Brewers game. Going to do LOTS of walking downtown but want to get a workout in this morning. Im going to go light today so im not cashed the rest of the day. Im going to jog 1 mile and then, jump rope for 20 minutes, and do leg extensions. That will be it for today, not very hungry right now but want to get something in me before the workout so I cut up a banana and tossed it in with a bowl of rice krispies... for the 1 mile jog i am using this to warm up and just want to stay under 10 minutes..... made it to the forest yesterday, and hiked for 48 minutes.then when it cooled off outside,i spent a couple hrs with the weights..overhead press, behind the neck press, did a few curls, and just started doin some tri kickbacks...the bad news is i havent lost any weight, but the good news is,the dress shirt(2x) that ive been tryin on every other day,for a month or two, finally fits!!!...when i seen that the shirt fit,i decided to put see how my (goin to a funeral)suit pants looked with the shirt, and they both fit just right.. sure felt good to have dress clothes on,and not be ashamed of the way i looked..it seems like ive been tryin to get that pair of pants and a 2x dress shirt to fit me,for the longest time..probably,my number 2 goal(number 1 is gettin down to 200)was to wear those clothes again, and i must say,im damned glad that is now behind me....57 weeks,is a long fkn time... one of the most important things ive learned since i started walkin is patience and consistency..i see many many people who get frustrated, when they dont accomplish what they think they should,in a given period of time, and fall back into their old lifestyle...there aint no dignity in givin up,,,,ben cartwright....... finally got some rain, and everything is growin ike a mfer....'keep the continue'

we finally got some rain, and it was an all nighter..veggies have perked up,looks like a garden again...but here is the really good news...IM DOWN TO 224 POUNDS,this mornin...ill have to go back and check, but i think it has taken me 3 months,to lose 1 pound..yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha!!....although it has tested my patience, and really really want to get down to 200,im not overly concerned..the part about losin that pound is that its all fat...one thing ive found out about strength trainin is, you gain muscle, where mucle is supposed to be,and eventually, and i do mean eventually,(with a reasonable amount of cardio) the fat takes a hike...ive also noticed that the fat is disappearin, from the upper body first, and the very last place im losin is the lower stomach...its really strange how weight comes off.....i lost enough in my upper stomach, that i could wear the 2x shirts, and at the same time,my lower stomach, stayed virtually the same size............. a big yeller tomatoe, and cucumbers, really liven up,scrambled eggs and onions..........ps,its amazin how much lighter i feel at 224,than i did at 225,hehehe...intellectually,i know that its only 1 pound, but emotionally,or whatever,i feel like i dropped 20 ...'keep the continue'

Guess Who Weighs 225 This Mornin?? None Other Than J.l.hognuts,yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha
it only took me 7 weeks,to lose that pound,hehehe...thats one of the reasons a journal is so helpful,i could have swore that it was in april, when i got down to 225,but it was may 15...it goes back to psychology.. we minimize what we dont do,that we should have done, and maximize what we do,that we're proud of...thats why writin it down is sooo important...when we're emotionally involved, the easiest thing in the world to do,is bullshit ourselves.....unless i write it down,a week from today,i will always think that ive done more, than i actually did.....'keep the continue'

I am well into my third week of weight training..my upper body feels a lot stronger than ever before and also doing legs...I am not sore after workouts anymore..my trainer asked me to try to bench press 175 pounds today...I did two reps and was all in..this is the first time ever trying to bench press weight for me and considering my age, 57, I thought this was good...I am also down to 270, I was at 370 last October...I got down to 270 3 months ago and have maintained the weight since then..I am eating tons of food and drinking at times, but the main thing is that I continue going to the gym about 4 to 5 time a week...I know I am getting older, so I know I have to continue working out and continue to lose more weight and get stronger...the health forum has helped me reach some of my goals...thanks guys....also thanks to Harrington, I hace a blood test and physical scheduled for next week...

30 days with no weight loss. That can be a kick in the balls so to speak. Good job not getting discouraged. Muscle weighs more than fat, so I'm sure your losing fat and gaining muscle. I have been keeping up on my daily workout, (even when I don't feel like it). I have gone from 238 to 215. Down 1 pant size. Little disappointed though. When I weighed 215 years ago, I could wear a size 38. Not real comfortably though. Now at 215 I can't get them on. Not sure where I am losing my weight. My luck probably my ankles and not my ass, stomach and thighs. Anyways guys keep up the good work......Congrats on your weight loss....

Gentlemen, great thread, I just read all the way through all 24 pages this morning. Very inspirational! I don't know mrhognuts from adam but I can tell you I like the guy. Anybody who realizes they have a problem, vows to fix it, and FOLLOWS THROUGH is ok in my book.

You and VD are going at it the right way - exercise first with a moderate diet. It's a lifestyle change, one day at a time.

Personally, I used to be 235 in my college bball days, worked out 6 hours a day everyday, was all muscle, and ate whatever I wanted. Now only 5 years out of school, sitting at a desk for 12 hours a day, exercise has been seldom and I pushed up to about 270. I might still look ok (I'm 6'9 so the weight spreads around), but I feel disgusting, so I'm trying to do something about it. It really hit home when I went to the beach and saw some pictures of my pudgy no definition self.

I have given up the 2-3 pepsi cans i used to drink every day because they are free at work, and I've started to walk the 1 mile to and from work instead of driving the car. I'm already back down to 260, and I want to make a push for 250 before the winter. All this is without really inconveniencing myself at all. Next phase I want to get in the gym and resume some lifting. Muscle burns fat like crazy, even hours after your workout. It's like having your body do the work for you while you're sleeping.

Anyway, don't mean to hijack your thread Hoggy, you got me inspired though. I might even bust out my crock pot tonight! As you say, 'keep the continue' brother.

Fuking coke and pepsi will kill you, I tried to give up all soda but that failed, although it is only 4-5 cans of diet coke or gingerale a week, little better than the regular stuff...Hognuts sure can get you to work out with all his different methods, innovations, and food evaluations...he keeps me inspired and on my toes at all times...
