47 fkn degrees this mornin, gonna have to get the long pants out again...viejo,everybody has their own ideas, about life, and everybody, thinks they are right,(including me,hehehe)if we met,if i met most of these guys,in a bar,we would have a blast, the internet, gives us an opportunity,to say things, that we want to say,but in polite society, would never say,and i love it...viejo,i think it was lincoln, who said something like this,a mans character,is not tested, during times of wealth and plenty, the true measure of a man,and his true character, will show during times of adversity....end of sermon,hehehe...viejo,i must add, that early on,i got a lot of motivation, from you and i, sharing our experience with obesity, that was invaluable, and although you dont post as much as you did,i know what a challenge this is,and nobody is pullin harder for you than me,now lets go do some exercise,,,,anything but but that fkn high intensity whatever ,wore old hognuts ass out,,like pronto, hehehe,'keep the continue'

made it out to the soccer field, this mornin, jogged a mile in 13:37,and walked 2 more miles,,i knew today was goin to be a slower time, from the first few steps, and i believe the reason is,i hadnt had enough recovery time, from yesterday evenin,i was at the track at app 6 pm,yesterday, and was out at tha soccer field today at 10 am,thats only 16 hours, and its not enough, that is actually, the first time, ive made that mistake,in a while, it rained about all day,and i let it throw me off schedule, ive learned that walkin, requires less recovery time, than joggin, doin nothin but walkin,i can get by with 20 hours of rest, looks like joggin,is goin to require,24 hours...and also, runnin for 30 seconds, just as hard as you can,is not as easy, as it sounds,i figured i could upside down, for 30 fkn seconds...NOT!!,the facts are,im still about 35 lbs overweight,i wonder what would happen,if a fellow in perfect condition, put 35 lbs on his back, and started sprintin,he wouldnt last long, the more fat i get rid of,the more amazed i am,at how i was able to do much of anything, lookin back,i would rationalize, and blame everything on my age, well, that is a crock, all that fat is what was slowin me down,i know one thing,i feel better today, than i have in years...'keep the continue'

Hognuts.....I like your idea of short sprints but 30 seconds is a long time to sprint when you have been walking and jogging. Try sprinting 100 yards for 8 times, then do 50 or 60 yards 8 times and 40 yards for 10 times. You'll see a quicker response to the body and it may kick your fat burning into overdrive.

Try doing a sprint and immediately do 10 push ups or crunches. It doesn't sound like much but it's a good start to kick your body into a fat burning machine.

Try a protein shake for a recovery snack!

sportsrmylife, are you sayin,do,100 yds,8 times,50 yds 8 times, and 40 yds,10 timeson the same day? i was thinkin that maybe i could try somethin,a bit shorter,so thanks, the one positive, that i took from those 30 second sprints, was that evenin,i went to sleep, befre the west coast games started, hehehe,i usually stay up til 2 or 3 in the mornin.

today,i decided to just walk through town, and check everything out,its probably been a month or so,since i took a stroll, and didnt concern myself with heartrate, mileage, etc, and i enjoyed it,very much,i walked for 50 minutes, through town,up by the college, down by the soccer field, around by the track,i did take in 3 hills, that i just couldnt resist,my intent was,to have an easy day,and give my joggin muscles and tendons,a chance to recover and repair...it sure is fun,to just go for a walk, without feeling stressed out about how much, and how fast,i walk,it seems that every 5 lbs i lose, the feeling of desperation, and being overwhelmed,by the amount of fat i need to lose, diminishes by leaps and bounds, what i find most interesting,is,you never realize, how stressful a thing or situation was, until whatever was stressing you out,is gone, what a relief......i seen my profile,in a storefront window this mornin, and i have got to say,i sure do look different,i didnt realize, i had been avoiding mirrors, until i stopped, avoiding mirrors...'keep the continue'

back out to the soccer field,this fine mornin,jogged my mile,in13:55,not earth shattering,but ts under 14 minutes,and for now,tats about as fast,as i need to go,after joggin the mile,i walked one in 16,and anotherone in 17 minutes,one of my longterm goals,is to walk a mile,in 15 minutes,and eventually,do 4 miles,in 1 hour,i have read,numerous articles,ting that,if you can do 4 miles,in 1 hour,in a cardiovascular sense,you would be good to go,i always wanted to be healthy enough,to have the endurance,it takes,to accomplish that,and i believe,sometime,this summer,ill get there...right now,i can do 2 miles.in 30 minutes,(14 joggin,16 walkin)the only thing holdin me back,is the endurance factor,annnnd,i honestly believe,if i was down around 200 lbs,i could do it today,ive still got months,to lose 25 pounds,i added it up a few weeks ago,and if i remember correctly,i was averaging 1.3 pounds,of fat loss.per week,soooo,im right on schedule,'keep the continue'

what a fantastic sunday mornin....did a warmup walk=9mins,hill=5mins,level ground 4mins,hill 3mins,level 9 mins,hill=4mins,level=4mins,hill=5mins,10mins,back to the car,and about 15mins of stretchin, etc,a fine little workout,i take the hills, just about as fast as i can,i try to figure the maximum speed i can do them, without having to stop, and i coast (as needed) or speed up,if it becomes too easy,im not talkin about a slight incline, some of these hills, are almost straight up...im beginnin to notice, that as i become more fit, walkin bores the heck out of me,if im in the exercise mode,i have to do some hills, jog, etc,in order to feel like ive done somethin, annnnd,i read somewhere, that walkin uphill,is easier on the knees, than walkin long distances, makes them stronger, and from my experience,i believe it....'keep the continue'

Mr.Hognuts,

Congrats on sticking with your program.

Here's a good story I found about a guy who also chose walking to lose weight. If I were him I think I'd get outta the backyard and try some new locations, like you have.

leykis, thats a good story, but how in the hell does he stay in that backyard, and why,the number one thing i enjoy about walkin is to get away from the house, change, different scenery, just thinkin about doin what he does, drives me crazy,hehehe....it sure doent take away, from his acomplshment..thanks for posting that,im gettin ready to head out,,,vey glad im not confined to my yard!keep the continue'

back out to the soccer field this mornin,to see if i could jog a mile,i did in 14:55,i then decided to see how fast i could walk a mile and i did it in 14:45,then i i did a 3rd mile,a total of 46 minutes and 40 seconds, for all 3 miles, while i was disappointed i my joggin time,on the second mile,i was tryin for somewhere under 16 minutes,so that was much better than expected,i also must say, that i usually dont walk,at a 14:45 pace, lol, that was as fast as i could possibly walk,i dont ever recall pushin myself so hard walkin, but i knew it was gettin a bit easier, and wanted to prove to myself that i could do a mile in less than 16 minutes...i was very pleased with the total time,,thats only 1min,40sec over an average of 15 minutes per mile,i think what i might do,over the next week or so,is try and get that 46:40,down to 45 minutes, but it might take me a month,hehehe...one thing i need to do is go to the 1/4 mile track, and see what my times look like, the soccer field is supposed to be a mile, and i guess it is,but some of it is uphill, some downhill, grass, gravel, dirt, etc,,, 1/4 mile track, its level and the distance is exact...'keep the continue'

Hognuts....still walking myself, did 4.5 miles in 62 minutes....
viejo, good to hear that you are still at it,its so easy to get discouraged, when you work your ass off,and the scale doesnt move,if it was easy, there wouldnt be any fat people, viejo,in a cardiovascular sense, youre waaay ahead of me,4.5 in 62 fkn minutes,is kickin ass,,my absolute best, was just the other day, when i did 3 miles in 46:40,and that was all out,if i had gone another mile,it would have probably been in the 17+range,at best 16+,which would be,about 62 or 63 minutes, when i can do 4 miles,in one hour, ill consider myself to be in(cardiovascularly speakin)pretty damd good shape,no matter how much i weigh....now that you have ruined my fkn day(not really, but the competitive part of me,knows that ive got to kick it up a notch or two,to try and stay up with you, thats why i say that you were so important,in my early days of walkin,my exact thought was if that fat fker can do it,so can i,hehehe)
got to get my ass out of this recliner, and get movin, its 9:am here in ky,and its already startin to get hot,71 degrees, but it will be 80,in no time...'keep the continue'

out to the 1/4 mile track this mornin, wanted to get an accurate time,on walkin a mile, and joggin one, after a 1/4 warmup,i walked as fast as i possibly could, for 4/4,and the absolute fastest that i could walk a mile was, 15:02,hope nobody had me on film, cause im sure my tongue was hangin out, needed a break,so i walked at a regular pace, for 2/4,i then did the hiit training,(runnin and walkin) for 4/4,at 14:24,that was all i needed for the day,so i walked for 5/4,at a casual pace, that should add up to 4 miles....yesterday,the 22nd,made 6 months, that ive been walkin, while i took the day off(from joggin)i did a lot of reflecting, and the one thing that continued to stay with me was,,,how much easier(and enjoyable) it is to walk, run, fix myself a bite to eat, play around in the garden, this first 6 months, has done so much for me,i was eager, and highly motivated, today,to get started on the next 6,i actually have only 21 weeks(oct 1st)to make my goal, of 200,if my body can take it,i might start pickin it up, just a tad,id be very disppointed,if i didnt make it,first of all, cause there is no reason for me not to,annnnd, this winter,i want to do,exactly what i want to do,which is to walk about 2 miles every day,and spend the rest of it,studyin the football games, hehehe,in other words,im lookin forward to being the master of my own ship,,,i aint where i wanna be,i aint where im gonna be,but im damned glad i aint where i was...'keep the continue'

thought id go to the colleges cross country training facility, which i call 'the trails'or 'the forest'(which is also, behind the soccer field)and change things up a bit,at the start of this trail,it goes uphill, for app 6 or 7 tenths of a mile, and if you are overweight,or out of shape, its a challenge, unless you are window shoppin,i,would always try and do this portion of the trail,in under 10 minutes, but i never made it,my time was usually, closer to 11,well,this mornin, old hognuts did it in 8:45,the trail meanders around in a couple circles, and then you turn around, and go back to the startin point,,,it always took me 37 minutes or so,to do a round trip,,today i did it in 30:29,hognuts was burnin it up,hehehe,in all honesty,i never dreamed id take that hill,as fast as i did today, what a difference,a couple of months, can make, you dont pay much attention to it,if you go to the same spot, every day,but if you stay away from an area for a month, then go back and do the same route,WOW...before,that trail would wear my ass out, just walkin it,today,i jogged and walked it(hiit..high intensity interval training)im beginnng to enjoy the jog and walk, jog and walk routine, and it seems to be a much better workout, than just walkin,or just joggin, from what ive read, the theory behind hiit is,to keep your body from adjusting, and getting accustomed to a certain level,of activity,,i would think it is even more effective,if you make sure you throw in some hills...im ecstatic about todays results, and im already lookin forward to tomorrow, absolutely nothin in this world, better than feelin good....'keep the continue'

back to the forest today,to see if i could improve on yesterdays results,,,i did the first long hill,in 8:30,10 seconds faster, and the entire trail,in 29:05,which is 95 seconds faster than thursdays effort, then i slowed down to a window shoppers pace, and did a mile cooldown....although im only pushin myself for 30 minutes, there is no comparison, from an intensity perspective,to what im doin now,and what i was doin, just a couple of weeks ago,i really believe, when it comes to exercise, cardio, etc, less is more,if i had it to do over again, instead of seeing how many miles i could walk,i might just focus on 1 or 2 miles, and try to see how much i could improve my time, from one day,to the next,in other words, work my ass off,and go home,,up until a few weeks ago,i was always mindful, that i needed to conserve x amount of energy,so i could walk x number of miles, today, old hognuts leaves everything on the field, this high intensity bidness,is a mfer in the initial stages, but you get stronger, so much faster than regular cardio,if you are serious about burnin the fat,and are in good enough health, its the only way to go...buut,i must warn any newbies who might read this,IT WILL KICK YOUR ASS,for a couple weeks,,the first day i tried it,there was little doubt in my mind, that it was just toooo fkn hard, but after a few days of recovery,i felt strong enough to try it again, and now,im doin it almost every day, although i am sure there will be days that i will do nothing but pleasure walk,,,ill probably walk 2 days a week, and do interval training the other 5,but its not written in stone,if ive learned anything in the last 6 months,it is this...the body is the boss, and the more i listen to it,the better off i am...'keep the continue'
