I hear ya. And yes my opinion is somewhat biased but we were planning on moving before we had a baby. I don't think there is anywhere in Canada he can play football at the age of 5 years old (they start with flag) like he could if we moved to say...California. What im trying to get to is that if he chose a different career path, I would have no problem with it at all. However, every two seconds of the day, he brings me outside to play some kind of sport (in the house too) so I don't think we'll have a problem with him playing in little leagues...he probably already could. I know guys are busting my balls and yeah it may be a bit unrealistic but a lot of pro athletes had parents who pushed them hard and helped them succeed with motivation. But like I said, I'll never tell him what to do and what not to do when it comes to playing sports or doing something else.

I think the little little kids play flag here too, they don't play tackle until maybe 7?

A lot of athletes, successful professionals, also regret what their parents did. Kerry Collins, Andre Agassi and his father didnt' get a long for a long, long time, his sister and father still don't talk (or, at least didn't for years). Collins has gone on record and saying he wished his father had let him be a kid and enjoy high school.

First off, on the chance you are serious...
#1) He is 2...He is 2...He is 2. Let him just enjoy growing up and playing!
#2) Why do you have to move??? He can play youth soccer, football, hockey and take MMA lessons in Toronto I am sure...of course this is all after he gets past say 3.
#3) If you push your kid into a sport he doesn't like you risk the Todd Marinovich outcome with your kid addicted to coke or something worse.
#4) If he is that good at any of these sports when he reaches high school consider moving then...but if he is D-I the U.S. schools will find him even in Canada. I remember Florida had a QB from Canada a few years ago.
#5) Avoid becoming the classic "little league dad" where you live or die with how your kid does in youth sports. Just let him choose the sports he really likes and really wants to play and teach him more about discipline, teamwork and dedication and working hard and the other important lessons in life. Using sports as part of a healthy relationship with your son is much more important than having dreams of him going pro in something someday.
Good luck!

Good advice...thanks...

His SUPERMAN punch is unreal...a few months ago he faked hitting his grandfather in the nuts while they were playfighting and came around with one of those punches to the temple instead.

get him doing more obscure sports like swimming, diving, lacrosse, crew, golf. chance is much higher for him to get a full scholarship somewhere awesome. For you, that's just as good as him making it pro. By the time he's in college it'll save you $200k easy.

Don't forget about tennis either. My wife hadn't played competitively for over 4 years, but joined the tennis team her freshman year at community college to make some friends. Did well at the JuCo nationals, and got a full ride for her last 3 at a $30k/year D2 school.

Tennis money is out there like crazy in the Northeast, because anybody nationally ranked wants to go to a FL or Cali school.

If your son is showing signs of being hung, Van Nuys would be the logical choice. Great athletic programs there, in San Fernando Valley, and he could always get into porn if the sports thing doesn't work out.

hey flav...enjoy the sports with your kid. we put mine in pee wee foots last year at age 4. one of the youngest kids but not undersized. very 1st play he got creamed on a block as a def tackle. we thought for a second he was going to be done but he jumped back in and helped to tackle the rb for a loss the very next play. just proud of the fact that he has the "dont give up attitude" at such a young age. whether he becomes an athlete or a pencil pusher i'll be there to back him up.

push your kid to play hard and to enjoy whatever it is he's doing. if he becomes a good player you can always help him go to the next levels but the way you're talking now, he'll either burn out or hate you for a long while.
I'm not opposed to a parent 'making' their child play a sport but don't be that dad in the crowd that's fucking obsessed with how well his kid plays and doesn't embrace the spirit of the game.

Good words bro...was expecting some sort of bash or something...thanks. You gonna be at the bash in August? What about Skins?

I was running 40-50 miles a week at age 12. If I had it my way I would have run 1 or 2 days a week tops. Once you start showing promise, all Dads want to be helpful and push you though it isn't always the best thing for you.

Skins and our bro Juice might go in August, but I'm out. too much going on in July/August for me.

One of the best things that happened to me in my early youth was my dad forcing me to play basketball b/c Skins was playing it. I sucked and hated it, loved playing baseball. Years later, I try to play basketball as often as I can and get in as many leagues as possible...

I'd also push your kid to get into other activities aside from sports...will make all the difference in the world when he's in high school and doing things non-sports related that will help him get into a great college.

Damn...was looking forward to finally meeting you guys.

Yeah, he'll be doing whatever he wants and i'll only push him to some extent. I definitely won't be one of those psycho dads in the crowd or like we see in movies.

This is so hilarious, I'm crying!

"Guys my two-year old is showing potential to go pro in 6 sports, so I'm packing up and moving out of the country."
"Why would you guys think I'm joking? I have his name tattooed on my ass."

How bout concentrating on making sure your kid is healthy and happy, instead of his aspiring sports/modeling career? The kid is two fucking years old.

Can anyone say Todd Marinovich?

Just words of caution.
