I know it is TMZ but they do have sources all over the place so a lot of validity about what is said here. I don't think the actual people running Nike are these SJW's who are indoctrinated into liberal group think.

I just think their calculation is probably wrong. But maybe they're right, maybe politics and culture has begun to intersect so much that a culturally iconic consumer brand has to take a progressive position to appease the the future of their consumers. I'd say that probably isn't true, and even if it were I still wouldn't choose Kaep as the hill to die on (just give LeBron some "equality" shoes, that's cute and doesn't rock the boat at all)

Young kids don't care about their shoes?!!!! Are you freaking out of your mind? You really need to get out more often. My son saved every dime he had when he was a teenager for some Air Jordans. That comment is insane. The hell they don't care.

of course kids care about their shoes but your son wanted jordans becuase he was great and on the field. kaepernick is part of a social issue that doesnt capture the attention of kids that young, nor should it. kids want to wear what they see their hero's wear and their heros are the sports players who make the plays on the field. nobody wants to wear the shoes of someone who isnt playing.

They would have a hard time getting someone relevant like Lebron to fill those shoes that kap is filling.
Lebron has much to lose by being polarizing , its just a check for kap.

And I agree and what brand is worn by more athletes? I'm not saying they'll want them because of Kap, I'm saying they'll want them due to some other athletes and ads NIKE will be running. And when they say to their Mom they want that brand, I don't think Mom is going to be caught up so much on politics that they will tell their children "no". If there's one think NIKE does well is market.

If POTUS starts to rail against Nike on Twitter, Nike will have a problem.

And no, Twitter is not real life Nike. That’s what Nike thought but their calculation is way off. Twitter is not real life.

Who’s playing more sports, 15-22 year olds or 5-15 year olds? I’d tell you a 5 year old plays all sports all year while a 20 year old may be playing and if so, may be only playing 1-2 sports if that.

Please drop the personal insults. We’re all having a solid discussion here. Don’t drag me into your sewer please.

Regardless, their target audience is kids. You want to argue about stupid shit like the exact ages, sure thing. Their target audience are kids. Not old white people. That's all I was saying. So yes the parents have to buy it for the kids, but if the kid wants it...what are you going to tell them? Nike is bad? They are racist? They don't appreciate America? They defend people who stand for what they believe in?

The only real complaint and legit thing people can say about Nike is that they have Asian factories where the conditions are harsh in order to make their product in other countries. That's the only argument people can come with that is legit and I haven't even heard it. But you do know what other companies in this country use for cheap labor, right?

Yeah but you just do it in a lower stakes, less polarizing way. That way you mitigate the risk while getting more of the reward.

There's a way to show you are a woke company that doesn't involve plastering the most hated athlete in America all over the place.

I do agree though that Kaep ate. He certainly monetized his cause at the end of the day. He'll be sipping a fruity drink on an island well before and long after people are done debating some of these issues.

But you are very much missing the point anyway.
Just because kids dont have money does not mean they are not a target audience.

Captain Crunch dont care that 5 year old Billy is not going to spend his $5 allowance on a box of cereal but thats exactly who Captain Crunch is targeting.

Mcdonalds is targeting happy meals to kids fully knowing they wont be paying for them.

You dont have to have money to be a target demo

lmao. Exactly.

He has no point.

If they did it to get other atheletes to sign then sure. But they already have lebron, tiger, Serena etc. they already have the big names. Not sure how much more that grows with this move.

Yeah, I don’t blame Kaperdick at all in this scenario.

Yes they do. But I have to be honest, they're more prone to wear the Walmart workout attire. I don't typically see them in NIKE apparel. They tend to wear a lot of cheap shit. And they don't seem to care about their looks. Just my observation.

My point is the kids are still asking for NIKE through a different athlete/marketing. I'm saying this anti-NIKE protest means nothing to them. And they'll still ask Mom for the NIKE gear and Mom will buy it for them.

Again, it's just too big of a company and garments/athletic wear is too wide of an industry that it will hurt them that much IMO.

But we have anecdotal evidence that some people are going to stop purchasing Nike. The actual figure is debatable but people on this board, on social media, etc etc have said they're done w/ Nike.

Is there going to be a corresponding increase from the ads to offset that?

I think probably not. I don't think there are that many people that are all jazzed up about the Kaepernick ad that they will now be changing their purchasing decisions.

Which is probably where we should leave this and see the impact in the next 6-8 months.

Well, don't think we would ever know the answer because it is probably a small net gain or net loss either way.

Politics has potential to be a different animal, but my main point is these PR disasters usually don't last too long. Gun manufacturers after school shootings, Target after their massive data breach scandal, United after the guy got beatup on the plane, Uber has had some bad scandals. The big tech names with their censorship.

World just moves fast, people move on. Not wanting to listen to Jemele Hill on ESPN is easy because she sucks. It's easy to boycott something you don't enjoy. Changing your clothing/footwear not as easy if you like it.

There are more people that hate kap then there are people who consider him a hero.

How many people actually feel like someone is being heroic when they knell for the anthem?
Seriously this is not exactly Rosa Parks refusing to sit in the back of the bus type stuff.

I would say 55% dont care
35% strongly offended
10% think its cool.

I dont see the upside

Unless this is major 4th level thinking getting a leg up on future demographics that is beyond my knowledge I dont see the upside to this.
