Unless this is major 4th level thinking getting a leg up on future demographics that is beyond my knowledge I dont see the upside to this.

And even if this is true peoples attention span is so short that by the time the demographics mature to this point dont think many people will even remember who kap is or was.

There are more people that hate kap then there are people who consider him a hero.

How many people actually feel like someone is being heroic when they knell for the anthem?
Seriously this is not exactly Rosa Parks refusing to sit in the back of the bus type stuff.

I would say 55% dont care
35% strongly offended
10% think its cool.

I haven’t read all the posts, but I didn’t see much mention of how this impacts Nike attracting star athletes and retaining current super stars. Early feedback seems like this campaign is viewed as a positive in the NFL/NBA player realm and could be huge for Nike when facing off with the likes Adidas and Under Armour.

The likelihood of any significant movement from those boycotting and those increasing purchasing level with Nike is negligible over time, but landing three out of four star targets instead of two of four could pay massive dividends. Under Armour’s shoe sales skyrocketed 60% after landing Curry, who left Nike, Adidas landed Harden in a heated bid process, this could be some added ammunition in Nike’s corner in future arms races for stars.

This isn't really for this thread but they've already matured. Number of people under the age of 25 that don't identify as white is close to 50/50

I still think it wasn't beneficial to do so, but these changes will cushion the blow even if the decision is bad.

You really think Antonio Brown gives a shit when deciding his next endorsement deal? I doubt any of these guys are deciding to go with Nike because they feel it is a more altruistic company than their competitors.

Of course guys are gonna applaud the move.

No one is gonna come out and be like "Kaep is a loser, he's fucking up the money for the rest of us with this stuff", when you're in a bubble there is only 1 way news can be received.

Obviously money talks and will be the biggest driver, but in my limited knowledge of these negotiations, the money often is very close. Anything that can be viewed as an additional positive in a contract negotiation can be valuable. It certainly won’t matter a bit in situations where Nike is simply outbid, but I don’t believe that’s the norm at the superstar level.

It's reasonable to submit that final advert campaigns at a company the size of Nike are very carefully crafted, but it's not likely more than their directing their primary focus on consumers who will be buying their products for next 30 years ahead of those who bought their product over past 30 years.

Those people in the years of 2019-2050 will be increasingly in countries outside the USA and will quite logically not waste a moment listening to angry mostly older White Americans from the year 2018, especially w regard to this silly-ass complaint

He wore socks depicting police as pigs and said the police are "modern day slave catchers" while comically insisting America oppresses black people.

I think the people most upset are the ones thinking of that.

Majority of cops are pigs. How often do you hear about about cops turning in other cops? Biggest gang in this country. Studies show they don't protect and serve shit

I didnt necessarily imply that old white people are upset at Nike. I was just stating that their target audience is more like 15-22 year olds of all races. Which really does mean this move does make business sense.

But wait, I thought 15-22 year olds are in Nike’s target audience? How did Nike’s favorability rating amongst 18-21 year olds drop from 81 to 51 overnight?

How is that humanly possible?
