I would say Johhny Depp. Can play roles like Public Enemies and Blow. Does Cartoon shit (I'm not a fan of). Lone Ranger, Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas. There really is no LIMIT to his range.

Deniro is the greatest ever. No question about it. Leo is up there. He is the new Deniro. Ask Martin

These are all great choices, but I'm gonna go unconventional and say one of the myriad of actors/actresses you saw on every damn TV show, and many movies, of the late 50's, 60's, 70/s, that you didn't know the name of, but you sure knew their faces. They would be in Dramas like Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Mannix, Comedies like Dick Van Dyke Show, Batman, Gilligans Island, an occasional move. I love the game of seeing someone, and saying wasn't that person in xxxxx and yyyyyy. To put in a name, I'll go with Jack Klugman. Was everywhere, did everything.

Pretty good historical thread. I said Kurt Russel at the time. Must have been thinking of the movie 'The Best of Times' where he was non-serious but yet so bad-ass in 'Escape from New York'. So versitile in movies throughout.

'The Best of Times' movie however worth checking out even to this day. It's got Robin Williams in it if you're a fan who's the main character.

I would go Hanks.

Spacey a distant second.

Hackman my favorite actor ever but not sure he takes on as diverse roles as the two above

Robbin Williams could do slap stick like Jim Carey and plus did the serious roles pretty good.

Daniel Day Lewis. No contest.
Absolutely. Not even close.

Morgan Freeman was asked if he thought Daniel Day Lewis was the greatest actor of our times. His reply...

"He is the greatest actor of all time".
