You will find movies will make an actor more than an actor will make a movie. A decent actor can be pretty damn good in a movie that is well written and actually has something worth while to show. It doesn't matter if you are the greatest actor ever....if you are in a bad movie your acting abilities wont even show. I'm not interested in any actors just good movies/ In my opinion the difference between a so-called great actor and an average one is small. The difference is the movie they are in

Agree about alot mentioned above though I am utterly amazed no one has mentioned Russell Crowe yet. Harrison Ford also.

Happy 78th Birthday Harrison Ford.

Definitely some joke picks in here. I have to go Hackman (don't forget Bonnie and Clyde, Birdcage, Hoosiers, French Connection, The Conversation, Crimson Tide among all of the movies that immediately come to mind).
A guy who hasn't been mentioned is Woody Harrelson who mirrors his Cheers persona in Doc Holliday and Wag the Dog to being outfront as Larry Flynt, in Kingpin (a top five all time comedy), and as evil in Natural Born Killers. Throw in White Men Can't Jump and No Country for Old Men if you are looking for range.
