This thread is so horrible. I guess people never learned what "versatile" means.

The first post was accurate. Tom Hanks is versatile. He is a good dramatic as well as comedic actor.

Depp is versatile too.

yeah I'd put Hanks near the top

in a decade or two we might put Will Ferrel up there. He seems to like to cross over, with more serious stuff like that movie stranger than fiction.

I give high marks to guys like him and Adam Sandler that can shed the super adolescent slap stick bathroom humor roles and go into something more serious, like Sandler did with Reign over me.

So Day Lewis is NOT versatile because he does not make comedies. Makes sense to me. Guy can transform into anyone. Only actor to win THREE lead actor academy awards. Also, he does not take just any movie.

as far as this thread is concerned, in a nutshell, yes... he only plays drama roles... doesnt play action or comedy roles ... he might be one of the top 5 best actors on the planet and transform into different characters, but he is far from being a versatile actor in the genre sense... sorry
