I liked Hanks because he isn`t the first guy you think of when you think of great actor`s, he isn`t the great looking leading man type, he doesn`t have mass appeal from men or women like most other legends...He`s just a winner, like someone else said the guy started on Bossom Buddies...He doesn`t even have to be in a comedy role (as most people would consider him a comedic actor first) he can do anything, and do it very well...Its Hanks in an upset special! Most Versatile!

J-man, scarey how you post this topic and I was just thinking of my favorite/most versatile actor last night as the wife and I seen the movie The Lady Killers

In the latest Coen brothers comedy, Tom Hanks stars as a professor-turned-thief with an elaborate scheme to rob a New Orleans riverboat casino. But when the plan is jeopardized by his old landlady's meddling, he and his accomplices decide to kill her, a surprisingly difficult task.

highly recomend this movie, was a great one! very funny..

Tom Hanks is the man!

Tom Cruise? Versatile? LOL

Hanks and Duvall i think are great choices. Also think that Kevin Cosner shows some versatility aswell. "Tin Cup, Open Range, JFK, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams , etc"

Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner although very successful can hardly be considered heavy hitters. One notch above Keanue Reeves.

I thought I had seen some pretty stupid posts about sports in this forum, but.....

To EVEN MENTION Kevin (Self-centered SH!THEAD) Costner in this post is THE dumbest post in the history of the world.

Are you crapping me? PeeWee Herman and Jack Black will probably be recognized throughout history as being as good as Costner!

I am totally and absolutely stunned by the ignorance of Costner being mentioned in this company.

I can't believe you guys left out George C Scott and Gene Hackman. Hackman in particular has proven to be very versatile, playing both comedic and serious roles.

Everyone in this thread forgot to mention Johnny Depp. He has almost done it all from playing a freak with scissors, an astronaut, a class c movie director, a detective hunting a headless horseman, a cia agent hiring a mariachi, and now a swashbuckling pirate.

He always steals the show!!

Gene Hackman comes to mind. Maybe not in the same league as Hanks but pretty damn good.

J-Man lmao
In a new movie Hackman plays a honorable Florida gambler who refuses to pay a debt. Macauley Caukin plays Hackman's degenerate nephew, and Gary Oldman plays Dave the bookie.

Coming soon to a theater near you

I like Edward NOrton for young guys. Sean Penn has to get a nod though his crying and decision to play a retard brings down his popularity.

HACKMAN TURNS DOWN DEGENERATE GAMBLER ROLE!

Gene Hackman had to draw the line, he was set to play the part of an Irish Gambler whose life went astray, but decided to opt out of the movie...

" I couldn`t gain enough weight" and the ridiculous bleached blonde mullet was the kicker", no way I wear a blonde mullet for anyone"...said Hackman, as he stormed off the set in Tampa Fla.
