LOL, but where are you heading with all this? You've been all over the map with your posts in this thread.

Whatsmore, you're starting to sound a bit like me... pointing out the obvious anti-semitic and anti-Catholic sentiment in this country!

Saying that Tebow would not have the same following if he was not a Christian.

Could have saved a few hundred lines, if I just wrote that.

By the way RRC, Romo's a Scientologist, thus his incorporation of Zenu into his avatar.

Let's keep things in perspective. Tebow is a very good overall player and has an excellent winner's attitude, but he's not going to make any lists of all-time great college players. Think of players like Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, etc. There's a very big gap between that kind of rare player and Tim Tebow.

I can tell you why so many people who aren't Gator fans don't like him -- one of the reasons, at least. He comes across as disingenuous. He wears his religion on his sleeve (well, more accurately, on his eyeblack stickers) then makes a show out of calling attention to himself with his fist-pumping and screaming, and taunting opponents. It's very, very hard for me to like a player like that.
Football is a game of toughness, emotion, leadership, and momentum. You think that because he's a Christian, he's not supposed to be tough or get fired up. That's your wrong idea of what Christianity is all about.

I've never seen Tebow do anything remotely close to what would be considered taunting until tonight. And I don't think making a Gator chomp when you've just locked up the national title is really a big deal. He definitely was the target of a lot of trash-talk all night and didn't say a word.

Good point. I can kinda see YourAllAmerican's point though. The word "humility" comes to mind when I think of "how" a Christian should act. One of the public's main problems with Tebow is not Tebow... it's the media. We should just all be glad this wasn't a CBS production with Gary Danielson. Geez. It would have been 10 times worse than the already pitiful FOX performance. It's just an over-the-top, ridiculous love-fest for a player who really got out-shined by both Harvin and Bradford tonight.

do we really live in a society that people can't stand tebow because he believes in god and acts like he has a purpose in life by doing missionary work? You look all over the place and he's hated just because of that. That just boggles my mind.

great kid and too bad their are not more like him.and i think he would be a great te in the pro's but not a qb.

We should all strive to be like Tebow, a man of faith who has recognized his abilities, tapped into his potential, continuously works hard to improve himself, and goes the extra mile to help those in need.

I just don't like him because he's white. And because I heard he's a Republican.

He is the Obama of college football. He is a front runner whose only reason to return next year is that he wants another Heisman and still mad about not getting the last one.
Harvin is a better player, more valuable to that team, but is not a front runner. It is not about religion or beiefs or whatever else you want to make it about. He loves the attention and that is why he will come back. He is just another player in the NFL whether he plays QB, tight end, or nose guard. He feeds on the attention and if you don't get that you just don't understand. When he leaves he will be replaced with someone who will probably surpass his records and that is because of the SYSTEM Urban has in place. They will just reload and go on without him. That is what he must deal with at some time and how he reacts to that will define him as a man. How come there were cameras every where he went on these missions. It just detracts from it all.
I do not hate him. I in some ways feel sorry for him because he will not always be the center of attentiion and I am not sure how he will be able to handle that.

You mean he didn't say a word... until he did. Belittling another person is very much anti-ideal behavior from a loudly professed Christian. And that's exactly what taunting is: belittling an opponent.

So some of the dislike for Tebow is brought on by his own behavior, but much more is because of the fawning, masturbatory behavior of announcers and media. Anyone who was still on the fence as to how they feel about Tebow was probably pushed into the "Don't Like Him" camp last night because of the absolute stroke-fest from the Fox TV crew. Here's an excerpt from today's sports blog from the Dallas Morning News' Barry Horn:

I would now like to introduce a line that Thom Brennaman actually uttered sometime late in the first quarter. I wrote it down without the TIVO working so I hope it's 100 percent accurate. You will get the gist; ""In such a cynical, sarcastic society, often times looking for the negative on anybody or anything, if you're fortunate enough to spend five minutes or 20 minutes around Tim Tebow, your life is better for it."

And near the end of the game when Brennaman and sidekick Davis were again deep in Tebow praise, their beloved was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting, I believe. They said something like "Must be the first thing he's ever done wrong in his life."

And in case you didn't know this: When Sooners CB Dominique Franks earlier this week said Tebow would be no better than the No. 4 QB in the Big 12, he uttered "probably the most ridiculous statement ever said."

Ever?

Can you say, "hyperbole?"

No question, Tebow is a great player and wonderful human being. But he isn't Gandhi or Mandela or Graham, either.

Well put, but I disagree about him being a wonderful person. How can you say that? You don't know him. Assuming a guy is a great human being because he goes on mission trips with a camera crew and goes out his way to preach his religious beliefs every time he's on TV does NOT make him an amazing human being. I'm sure everyone thought the priests that were caught molesting little boys were thought of as great people but unless you truly know a person I think its pretty ignorant to go out and say hes a wonderful human being.

And for the slurp job by Thom... :missingte:puppy:

GetThatPaper, that excerpt calling Tebow a wonderful human being is from a Dallas Morning News writer, not me.

I don't know anything about his character other than what is gushed about in the media, and I have no idea how much of that is true and how much is exaggeration. One thing I am willing to say is probably a lie is that there are Fillipino villages full of little kids named after Tim Tebow. That's another thing the strokers on TV claimed last night.

I really wish I were making that last part up, but I'm not.
