Trace Adams Tuesday Play with Analysis

For Tuesday night in the NBA, 500♦ Opening Night Lock is the Miami Heat as the home favorite against the visiting Boston Celtics. At 8:30 am eastern, the Heat is listed as the 6 1/2 point favorite both in Vegas and offshore.

Since it is Opening Night, not a whole lot of analyis to provide here, but I do think that the Celtics are not getting any younger, and they were unable to knock off Miami in last season's playoffs as they fell in 7 games to the eventual NBA champions.

Miami has added former Boston stalwart Ray Allen, and tonight's meeting should be very interesting from a personal dynamic as the C's are none to happy with Allen signing with their arch-enemy. Regardiless, Miami is just the younger deeper team, and on the night they raise their Championship banner, I expect the Heat to pull away and win this one comfortably.

The home team is 15-7 agadnst the spread the past 22 series meetings. Go with the home team again tonight. Miami with the win and cover.

Trace Adams Wednesday Play with Analysis

For Wednesday night in the NBA, 500♦ Opening Night Home Chalk Lock is the Philadelphia 76er as the small home favorite against the visiting Denver Nuggets. At 7:30 am eastern, the Sixers are listed as the 1 1/2 point favorite both in Vegas and offshore.

Homecoming time for Andre Iguodala who was such an instrumental part of last season's deep run in the playoffs by the 76ers, but now enters wearing a Denver uniform. In fact, Philadelphia is without a few key parts from last year's playoff team, as Lou Williams and Jodie Meeks are also starting the year in new unis.

No worries, as Doug Collins is the master teacher, and he did have the Sixers in fine form this preseason without the key piece in all of the off-season moves; Andrew Bynum who will watch this home opener in street clothes with his sore knee.

Denver has been a solid money play (67% against the spread) on the road last year, and they did win their lone meeting in Philly in overtime last season, but the 76ers have won 3 of the last 4 series meetings straight up versus the Nuggets, and they pretty much just have to win this game and that would likely be good enough for the cover.

Time for Evan Turner and Jason Richardson to step up big for Philly.

Expect the home fans to give Iggy a nice welcome in his return, but expect the 76ers to take care of business in this one as they take it by 6.

Trace Adams Thursday Play with Analysis

For Thursday night, 1500♦ Lead Pipe Lock Winner is the Miami-Florida Hurricanes at home against the visiting Virginia Tech Hokies. At the time I release this selection, the 'Canes are +1 1/2 point home underdogs to the visiting Hokies.

Both schools coming off byes last week, and both are trying move over the .500 mark for the year as both teams enter at 4-4 for the year, although it is Miami that is riding the 3 game losing streak. Miami does control their own destiny in the Coastal Division, and I do like them on their home field to stop their skid at 3 losses in a row.

Clearly, this is not a "vintage" Virginia Tech edition, and their 5-1 road spread mark under the Thursday lights tends to lose a little luster coming into this weeknight special, as Frank Beamer's team has already lost outright to Pitt, Cincy, North Carolina, and Clemson. The Hokies have yet to cover an away game this year at 0-4 versus the teams I just mentioned, and their 4-4 start is their worst since the 1992 season.

Tech QB Logan Thomas has regressed this season, and his 10 interceptions definitely does not instill confidence in backing the visiting Gobblers to notch their first road cover of the season this Thursday night.

V-Tech has turned the ball over 11 times in their last 5 games, while Miami enters this one with covers in their last pair of games and 4 of their last 5 overall. With a favorable schedule of Virginia, South Florida, and Duke to close out the regular season, this is the game coach Al Golden needs his Hurricanes to win.

Take Miami-Florida to step up big tonight.

Trace Adams Friday Play with Analysis

For Friday night in Pac 12 play, going with road underdog Washington plus the points as they play against the Cal Golden Bears. At the time I release this selection, the Huskies are the +4 point underdogs.

UDub able to end a 3 game slide last weekend with the home underdog upset win over Oregon State, 20-17. That puts the Huskies at 4-4 and still in line for picking up a bowl bid this holiday season. As for Cal, the Golden Bears haven't been so golden, as Jeff Tedford's team enters this home date with losses in their last pair, and a 3-5 overall mark.

Hard to make a case for laying the wood with the host, as the California offensive line has been just plain offensive, allowing a whopping 37 quarterback sacks this year! Throw in the Golden Bears 1-4 against the spread home mark this season, and I find no compelling reason to lay this number tonight in Berkeley.

Washington has held the upper hand in this series, winning and covering the last 3 series meetings, and they are 5-1 against the spread the last 6 times the schools have faced one another. The Huskies have suffered road losses at LSU, Oregon, and Arizona already this season, this is by far the most winnable road game on their slate to this point.

Take the points as this one isn't pretty, but is a cover for the Huskies.
