David Nalbandian claimed back-to-back ATP Masters Series titles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over World No. 2
Rafael Nadal in the final of the BNP Paribas Masters on Sunday.
Not only is Nalbandian the first player to defeat World No. 1 Roger Federer and World No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the same tournament twice, he also becomes the first man to defeat them both in a final.
Former World No. 3 Nalbandian won just his career-first ATP Masters Series shield in Madrid two weeks ago, becoming the second man since Boris Becker at 1994 Stockholm to defeat the Top 3 players at the same tournament, defeating World No. 2 Nadal in the quarterfinals, World No. 3 Djokovic in the semifinals, and World No. 1 Federer in the final.
How the final was won
The 25-year-old Argentine recorded his second win in three weeks over Roger Federer in the third round in Paris, defeating the Swiss in straight sets before edging past No. 5 seed David Ferrer in the quarterfinals and dismissing final Shanghai qualifier Richard Gasquet in the semifinals on Saturday.
On the Bubble: Race to Shanghai Prior to his title run in Madrid, Nalbandian had reached just one quarterfinal in 15 events this season, falling to David Ferrer in Barcelona.
Nalbandian becomes the first man since Marat Safin in 2004 to win the Paris and Madrid Masters series titles back-to-back.
Nalbandian now improves to 4-0 against the Top 2 players this season, all four wins coming against Federer and Nadal at AMS Madrid and Paris.
Tennis Masters Cup qualifier Nadal was seeking his seventh title of 2007, having already claimed his third straight Roland Garros title in June (d. Federer), when he become the first to do so since Bjorn Borg won four in a row from 1978-1981. The Spaniard has also amassed three AMS titles in Indian Wells (d. Djokovic), Monte-Carlo (d. Federer) and Rome (d. Gonzalez).
The 21-year-old Spaniard now has a 9-3 record in ATP Masters Series finals, winning at least two Masters Series shields each season since 2005. He is 23-6 in all ATP finals.
Nadal has won 26 of his past 27 matches in the French capital, recording three straight title runs at Roland Garros, and four victories this week on his debut at Paris Bercy.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
David Nalbandian: "Rafa started playing better [early] than in the end. He served very good in the beginning, too. Played more deep and with a lot of intensity, too. So for me it was a little tougher. But after I break him, I feel that I was playing better than him. I played more relaxed, started hitting winners almost from everywhere. That gave me confidence. Then everything was just going until the end.
"I never thought that I can win Madrid and Paris like the way I did. But I feel that I play very good from the last Sunday, not just today. All week I was playing great, and I don't know why the result was so easy."
Rafael Nadal: "It was a very good first set. The second set I played bad, very bad. But he started playing very good. I have my chances a little bit in the first set. Not much, because he's playing with unbelievable confidence.
"He's one of the best players of the world. You just have to congratulate him... I never saw him play like this. Today I played against one who is playing better than me and than the rest of the players, too."

I will sit back and enjoy Masters Cup in Shanghai . Not a great start for me with tennis betting but I suffered few big losses with 20 units on Clement against Becker and 15 units on Berdych against Ferrer . I will try something new next year . Maybe betting more *underdogs* or trying to bet on games handicap .
