Paterno never raped anyone.

Joe Pa is one of the last guys who will stay at a place for 40-50 years or whatever it was. Lived in modest house. Never messed with NFL. True old school guy who had troubles adjusting to modern day football where some freshman are 10 times better than seniors.

What a coincidence. People calling for his head the last 10-15 years of his life. Finally gets fired and within months he died. Penn State was his life.

The world has gone nuts! Everyone posting on here regarding Joe and this nonsense with no basis of fact should be embarrassed . The media is lazy, asleep, and doesn't care about the truth

This story is complete bullshit . This whole thing sickens me

So now Joe not only knew about Jerry in 1976, he stood by and watched him start up the second mile for troubled kids the next year ?

Are you kidding ?

AND... IN 1977 SANDUSKY gets promoted to Def Coordinator ! Sandusky was a nobody before then!

If media was remotely fair, headline for BS Joe Paterno story would B: "Absurd claims against PSU raise questions about accuser credibility

Sue's letter to the board as read by Al Lord. "Dear chairman Masser,
president Barron, and members of the board of trustees, as we learned yesterday, the dark cloud of the Jerry Sandusky tragedy continues to hang over this institution. A tidal wave of media waves have been introduced that once again claims there was definitive evidence that Joe Paterno and others participated in a decades long cover up. I am deeply saddened by this investigation because it follows the pat...tern exactly of four years ago. We have also been notified by a media outlet of another decade's allegations of abuse. We told them that any such allegation is in total complicate conflict of all we know. The seriousness of that matter demands that we all insist on facts and due process. My family and I have no knowledge of the allegations released yesterday. No party shared any information with us and yet now it is taken by many as full fact. From the first day, Joe and I have called for the full record to be released. I do not fear the facts, and I know that everyone will be better served if the complete story is made available for all to review. My family and I have come together to demand a transparent process for removing allegations. To deny this is to say that the full truth will never be known. I call upon the board of trustees to open Penn State's records, lift the transparency, give everyone the chance to see what you know. I am confident that there is a way do this while also protecting the rights of individuals. I also call on the NCAA to do the same. It is time to end this process of character assassination by accusation. In the spirit of our love for Penn State and duty to the victims, let's stop fighting about due process and start fighting for the truth. Sincerely, Sue Paterno."

because his foster parents didn't go to the police with the story they told him as a child to call Penn St instead

and when he called Penn St, he actually reached JoePa

I'm not done yet....

This is good. From Kevin Slaten, radio broadcaster.

Once again, the mentally and ethically challenged media whores run with a nothing story so they can, unconscionably, attempt to destroy Joe Paterno. It's pathetic how these Pavlov's dogs snap to it when the most innocuous of comments comes their way. They run it as fact without even considering how in the world a young boy could gain access to Joe Paterno in 1976 to claim Jerry Sandusky molested him. Even a moron realizes how absurd that is. And why would this young boy go to JoePa and not the police? And why would this young boy not comment for some 40 years to anyone else until there were millions of dollars to be had? And why would a judge in an insurance case mention that, in a deposition taken to try to alleviate that insurance company's obligations to pay money, even make such an asinine statement that "...apparently Joe Paterno was told of an incident in 1976..."? Follow the money. Again, follow the money you media whores and imbeciles. Proving once again the state of journalism in this country has been reduced to people with a 3 IQ...And I apologize to those with a 3 IQ for the comparison. Not ONE scintilla of evidence to back such a claim. NOT ONE!!! But when did evidence matter to media illiterates? Please feel free to share.

I don't personally "side" with any certain faction within this debate bcuz i don't have a good enough understanding of the evidence involved, testimony etc.

Just posting this bcuz people may not click a Link and its a very interesting article (same article as posted above by brucefan) and people who want to reach an intelligent and objective conclusion on this terrible situation, people that want to have an understanding of the matter would want to read this article.

Link to the full article after these few Key Points made within it.

"We are being asked to believe that in 1976, a boy somehow has the ability and courage to come up to Joe Paterno (but never speak about this publicly for forty years, even as a middle-aged adult when the story becomes an international sensation) and tell him that his assistant coach sexually abused him. Paterno then, despite the fact that Sandusky is at that time an unknown and low-level assistant coach, not only doesn’t go to the police or the kid’s parents, but he doesn’t even fire Sandusky?!

Even more ridiculous, Paterno promotes Sandusky to defensive coordinator the very next year in 1977?! Topping off the insanity, Paterno also allows Sandusky to then start a charity for at risk kids, an organization which will have close ties for the next thirty-four years to the university and football program to which Paterno devoted his entire life?!

Seriously?!

Penn State has paid out almost $100 million to the alleged victims of Jerry Sandusky. This is a process which has been shrouded in secrecy. There are no public records of any of the investigation or vetting which may or may not been done with the individual claims.

The insurance company which covered Penn State went to court to fight their obligation to reimburse the university for the money they paid out in settlements. As a part of that process, apparently the judge presiding over the case was told by the insurance company of several allegations made by the accusers which they thought bolstered their case that Penn State had forfeited its right to be covered.

In his ruling opinion, the judge then made a passing, less than one sentence, mention of one of the accuser having claimed, at least thirty-six years after the fact, that he told Joe Paterno as a young person in 1976 that Jerry Sandusky sexually abused him.

Sandusky accusers have been paid, with no civil trial, on average about three million dollars for apparently nothing more than a statement (with no cross examination) of their abuse and an agreement to not pursue any further legal claims.

I have intimate knowledge of the Sandusky settlement process which I am not a liberty to divulge at this time. However, I can say with great certitude that the bar for getting approved was extremely low and rather specific. Two of the primary elements they required were a direct connection to Penn State and to Sandusky’s charity, The Second Mile.

Here is where the 1976 allegation of Paterno’s knowledge begins to break down before it even gets out of the starting gate. You see The Second Mile wasn’t formed until 1977. This means that the accuser in this situation had two huge hurdles preventing him from getting a settlement. His age (by 2011 which is the earliest he could have possibly come forward) put him way outside the statute of limitations, and he had no possible connection to the charity.

This would have meant that Penn State could have easily dismissed his claim as not being eligible, unless he had some sort of “special circumstance,” such as an extreme connection to Penn State (ideally with something the news media would want to report on should a settlement be rejected). Well, this is how, in a logical world, the story of him having told Joe Paterno of his abuse in 1976 was born.

In my highly educated opinion, this accuser, faced with being shut out and under guidance from an attorney who knew the lay of the land, suddenly decided to play the “Paterno Card” in a “Hail Mary” attempt to save a claim which was may have very well been bogus (there is no evidence that either the Attorney General’s or Louis Freeh’s office were ever told of this “bombshell” allegation, and there absolutely would be if that had happened).

It appears that, in this case, Penn State, which has had a bizarre and greatly misunderstood disincentive to defend itself and its employees from the beginning of this fiasco, allowed that desperation pass to be completed without even token opposition. "

This whole case is one for the ages

Penn State president decries new Joe Paterno allegations

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The president of Penn State is decrying new allegations that former coach Joe Paterno was told that Jerry Sandusky had sexually abused a child as early as 1976 and that two assistant coaches witnessed the abuse of other children.
President Eric Barron said in a letter Sunday to the university community that he was "appalled by the rumor, innuendo and rush to judgment" accompanying the stories.
Some of the allegations were revealed in an order last week by Philadelphia Judge Gary Glazer in litigation between an insurance company and the university. The insurers cited an allegation that a boy had told the longtime Penn State football coach in 1976 that he had been molested by Sandusky, who was an assistant coach. The court document also cited reports by unnamed assistant coaches who said they witnessed inappropriate contact between Sandusky and children in the 80s.
Barron said those allegations, and others raised in some news reports in recent days about allegations related to knowledge by Paterno, are "unsubstantiated and unsupported by any evidence other than a claim by an alleged victim."
"Coach Paterno is not alive to refute them. His family has denied them," he said. Some of the press reports, he said, "should be difficult for any reasonable person to believe."
And while saying few crimes were as heinous as child sex assault and the university was appalled by Sandusky's actions and committed to prevention, treatment and education, Barron said he had "had enough of the continued trial of the institution in various media."
Sue Paterno, who defended her husband's legacy and said the family had no knowledge of new claims, also called for an end to what she called "this endless process of character assassination by accusation."
In 2001, Paterno told high-ranking university officials one of his assistant coaches reported seeing Sandusky acting inappropriately with a child in a team shower. In 2011, Paterno told a grand jury he did not know of any other incidents involving Sandusky, who retired from Penn State in 1999.
Paterno was fired following Sandusky's November 2011 arrest and died of lung cancer in January 2012. He was not charged with any crime, and his family is pursuing a lawsuit against the NCAA for commercial disparagement.
Sandusky is serving a decades long prison sentence for his conviction in the sexual abuse of 10 children. The university has paid more than $90 million to settle 32 civil claims involving Sandusky. How far back the acts occurred has not been made public. Three university officials await trial on criminal charges for their handling of the Sandusky scandal.

You're right.....other than the Catholic church I don't know if there has been an institution as big as Penn State to harbor a known child rapist.
If he wasn't a football coach Sandusky would have been tossed in jail long ago.....saving hundreds of kids from his torture.

All due respect Pats Fan, you know nothing about the case . If Penn State and Joe "Harbored' a child rapist, how come there has been no trial yet. If this big cover up went on, how come no one will come forward to turn on the others to tell the truth and save themselves ? Its been almost 5 years.
