Throughout history, there have been a lot of coverups. I've never heard one in which a guy gets information and then tells his direct supervisor what he heard. A coverup usually involves not telling someone what you know or have heard. Maybe we're in a new era of coverups?

People have trouble understanding that paterno had no supervisor. He had the power to stop it and didn't. For a guy who made his student athletes live up to high expectations....he didn't hold himself to those standards and kids got raped because of it.

But like you said yourself of what you would do, why didn't Paterno go to the police? This seems like a much more serious matter than to tell some petty supervisor, which I doubt even existed in the first place..

Don't know why he didn't tell the police. I guess he thought telling his supervisor was what he was supposed to do? I don't know. What I do know is there is zero evidence Paterno covered anything up in this situation.

- Never told anyone not to report anything.
- Never via email, phone or in-person conversation told anyone not to discuss this situation.
- Reported it to his direct supervisor.
- Answered any/all questions about the situation when confronted with the situation.

Had he participated in a coverup, he would've been arrested and charged criminally.

Sandusky wasn't involved in football activities. He had a key and a desk to the gym per his retirement package with PSU which had nothing to do with Paterno. He did do something even though you say he did nothing. He reported what he was told to his direct supervisor immediately.

Okay, I can officially sell you a bridge in Brooklyn if you honestly believe Paterno could have never banned Sandusky from the PSU football facilities. This is the problem with Paterno sympathizers, they believe Joe was an old, powerless man who could have not done anything to change the situation. When anyone with a pulse not connected to the situation can see JoePa was the most powerful man on campus and the highest paid public servant in the entire state of Pennsylvania. But yeah, he had no pull to permanently ban a retired asst from the football facilities.

Check out this online article from 2005. Look at the quotes from former players who said they were encouraged by JoePa to volunteer for the second mile charity football camps knowing Sandusky was going to be there running the football camps. This is taken directly from this article:

Jerry Sandusky, who still occasionally works out with the Penn State football team, passed his former boss in the hall a few weeks ago. "Thought we got rid if you," Joe Paterno said.

Well they did, but Sandusky, who retired as Penn State's defensive coordinator in 1999, can't let go of everything. So in between Second Mile functions, Sandusky does a few miles on the treadmill and keeps an ear to the ground of Penn State's program.

I agree. i don't think you could fart at that school without Joe Pa knowing about it. I know they say he was keeping quiet to protect PSU. But I think it was just as much to protect his legacy. Hell, Penn State was his legacy.

You guys are sensationalizing Joepa. He had absolutely nothing to do with handling crime or accusations of criminal behavior on the campus of Penn St. And there is literally no evidence that he kept quiet about anything.

I read what you typed out. You said "no grown ass man should be solo in the football locker room after hours with a 12 year old boy."

I disagree with that statement. That's all.

"FACT: Paterno knew Sandusky was hanging out with young boys in the football locker room after hours regardless of what the boy says happened today. Sorry, that is just plain wrong. No grown ass man should be solo in the football locker room after hours with a 12 year old boy, punto. Paterno was the head of the football program and godlike on campus. If he wanted Sandusky banned from the football locker rooms tomorrow he could have made it happen. Anything else is bullshit. Are you telling me Saban, Urb or Stoops do not have the power to kick a former assistant out of their football building? I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale if you believe that. He most likely did not ban him because that would have raised some reporters suspicion. Hey, why is Sandusky no longer hanging around campus?"

Nothing about showering in your statement at all.

Paterno wishes he did more because he did nothing. He could have and should have banned Sandusky from all Penn State related football activities once he was told that Sandusky was fondling a 12 year old boy in a sexual nature in the Penn State football locker room after hours. At least then it would have seemed like he cared. No he just passed the buck and said he informed the proper authorities.

Way to be a legend. Way to be a great leader of an organization people want to build statues for. Basically in a time when strong leadership and character is needed Paterno passes all responsibility to someone else. He could have done something and he did nothing. That is why there should be no statue or names on a trophy. Don't care about the wins but this guy was no legend and should not be held up as one. Keep the wins, keep the schollies, but don't bring back the statue or trophies in his name.

What people convieniently leave out when they quote JOE, is the other part of his statement

With the benefit of hindsight , huge difference

Another one of Johns challenges

"If Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, the two former Penn State administrators who are facing allegations of perjury and failing to report child abuse, are convicted of all the charges currently against them, then I will personally pay $10,000 to that media member's child abuse charity of choice," said Ziegler. "If they are not convicted of all charges, the first media member who takes this challenge will agree to either do a major story on how we were right, or pay the website $10,000 to be used on our next project."

PSU sympathizers looking for anything. Does it make a difference? 12, 14?

Sorry I got confused with another boy who testified against Sandusky that was 12.

All McQueary and thus Paterno knew was that it was an underage boy in the locker room with Sandusky that night.

It doesn't make a huge difference, but if I saw a coach walking around with a 14 year old... I wouldn't think anything about it. Most people don't imagine people are going around raping boys. There was one monster here, a very deceiving and predatory monster. Trying to push his actions on others and destroying their lives is pretty sad. If there were actual evidence that Paterno hid it and knew it, that's sickening. But there isn't.

McQueary stated they were in the shower and thought they were engaging in a sex act and told Paterno. case closed. nuke the statue.

Dude, he was not "walking around with a 14 year old boy." Paterno was told Sandusky was naked in the shower sexually fondling this 14 year old boy after hours in Paterno's football building. Paterno did not ban Sandusky from the PSU football facilities until he was charged in 2011, 10 years after the fact. How can you see that guy walking around your building, working out in your building, talking to your players in your building? How can you not want to beat the shit out of him everytime he walks by you? How can you encourage your players to volunteer for Sandusky's football camps?

In all honesty, if Paterno had banned Sandusky from all PSU football facilities, PSU football activities and did not encourage his players to volunteer at Sandusky's football camp then I would feel like he did the right thing. At least he would have shown that he cared and it would not happen under his roof. But then again, we all know if he did this reporter's would have started to ask questions and things probably would have started to unravel a lot sooner.

You didn't even mention showering or fondling. This is what you said...

If you reported your next door neighbor molesting a child, and there wasn't anything done about it the first time and it continued to happen, would you have kept quiet and let him continue doing it to other children?

+1

I would beat the shit out of the guy.

Wrap a chain around my fist and punch him in the mouth repeatedly...

What exactly did mcquerry tell paterno he saw? I thought he told him exactly he saw and heard Sandusky molesting a boy in the shower. If that is true then there is no excuse for Jopa and anyone who wants to defend him.

Not really exactly what he said and wasn't very specific. I think he said he was even embarrassed to talk to JP about the situation.

Hey EnFuego, my old friend...

How is the life at the Federal Bureau of Investigation?

What are the perks of working there?
