Months after former Penn State football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested for molesting boys, a statue of his ex-boss
Joe Paterno was removed from Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa.
Replacement Joe Paterno statues are being created in Lancaster County, according to the artists who made the original. February 2016.Submitted photo
While
the location of the statue isn't publicly known, a pair of new versions reportedly are in the works.
Sandusky, arrested in November 2011, was convicted of more than 40 counts of child sex abuse and
remains in jail. Paterno was fired after Sandusky's arrested and died in January 2012. For a time, the NCAA discounted many of Paterno's football wins as part of the school's punishment for the Sandusky scandal.
Paterno's wins were restored last year.
WGAL reports:
Since the artists have not been able to locate the original Joe Paterno statue, (artists Yesid) Gomez and Wilfer Buitrago are already in the process of creating a new statue. The project is already underway at a secret location in Ephrata, the same town the original statue was created.
Two copies of the Paterno statue will be made. One will be donated to the Paterno family, the second will go to the Beaver Stadium. That replica will travel from different locations and museums to pay homage to the late coach.
When the statue came down in July 2012, then-Penn State President Rodney Erickson said it was an "obstacle to healing in our university and beyond."
Update: A representative of the artists, Candy Chacon writes in a news release that the new statues won't have Paterno with a finger pointing up, but instead will have a clenched fist, "insinuated a symbol of unity and peace, We will not fall, we will not be diminished." Chacon says a statue will visit Beaver Stadium and travel to other locations and museums.

Billboard demands Joe Paterno statue be restored
The latest PS4Truth Billboard is calling for Penn State to return Paterno's statue to its former home outside of Beaver Stadium in State College.
The original statue, nearly 7 feet tall and weighing more than 900 pounds, was built in 2001 in honor of Paterno's record-setting 324th Division 1 coaching victory and his "contributions to the university."
