OC DOOLEY

"1 UNIT" NATIONAL-TV LATE NIGHT (Dodgers -120 at home versus Rockies in a 10:10 eastern start broadcast on the MLB Network------Mortenson versus Lilly): Dating back to the early stages of May host Los Angeles had baseball's 6th-best ERA (3.24) but only had a 10-11 overall record to show for it due to a horrible offense as only 3 other teams around the league have scored fewer runs than the Dodgers. In that near one-month span Los Angeles had the worst collective batting average in the majors (.211) with runners in scoring position. That has all changed in the past two days as the Dodgers collected a grand total of NINE clutch hits with runners in scoring position. The Dodgers offense as a whole is finally starting to get healthy as a pair of veteran infielders (Rafael Furcal, Casey Blake) recently returned from stints on the disabled list while firstbaseman James Loney just ended a massive 45-game drought without hitting a homerun. What this has done is take the pressure off of two bonafide star players (Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp) who the financially strapped Dodgers are trying to sign for the long term. While Ethier has had baseball's longest hitting streak, Kemp currently has more stolen bases than homeruns. While the Dodgers are finally getting healthy, the exact opposite is true for Colorado who yesterday hit a dreadful 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position (2-9 overall slide as a team). In a strange statistic from my database research Colorado is a disastrous 1-7 this season after consecutive games where the bullpen gave up "zero" runs. In this Colorado/Los Angeles series the HOME team is on a 3-0 run and I expect that trend to continue. Many thought that the NBA Championship series would open this evening with the defending champion Lakers involved, but Los Angeles courtesy of MLB Network does have a squad on National-TV

OffshoreInsiders.com Senior Sports Handicapper Matt Rivers has a free MLB Tuesday is on the NY Yankees (+105) to Oakland.

Certainly Brett Anderson is better than Freddy Garcia and the Yankees at times are not great but if I don’t have to lay money with what is still the definite better team then I’m all for it.

I really do like the lefty in Anderson. This kid has really good stuff and combined with Trevor Cahill are leading one of the better young pitching rotations in the game today. I don’t see the southpaw embarassing himself by any means but to get Arod, Tex, Cano, Swisher, Jeter and the Bombers, even across the country, is the right side. Garcia is old and a guy that I will fade in the right spot, mainly when he is laying a ton, but this is a solid spot to back the righthander in.

Joe Girardi’s club has had issues at times and they are not on the same level as the Red Sox this season. But the Yanks also are still one of the best teams in the game with a lineup that is way more high powered than the extremely mediocre Athletics. The Pinstripers were able to hit Felix Hernandez last week and just yesterday did some damage against Cahill and his one point whatever era.

This may not be a blowout as Anderson is tough but Garcia has been a lot better than expected and at this price I’ll take my chances on the New Yorkers.
