Where the action is: Under money betting on tired Eagles
The City of Brotherly Love welcomes Andy Reid back to Lincoln Financial Field Thursday night, as the Eagles host the Chiefs. We talk to sportsbooks about the action coming in on this game and where the line could end up come kickoff:
Kansas City Chiefs at Philadelphia Eagles – Open: -3, Move: -3.5, Move: -3
This Thursday Night Football matchup opened at a field goal at most books, giving Philadelphia the home edge. According to Jay Rood, vice president of race and sports for MGM in Las Vegas, it’s been all Eagles money heading into this Week 3 matchup.
“It’s almost exclusively Eagles money right now,” Rood tells Covers. “We’re at -3 (-130) and we’ll likely be getting off that soon. It’s good two-way play on the ticket count, but all the big money is with Philadelphia. All the parlays are on the Eagles.”
“We’re going to be big Chiefs fans tonight,” says Rood. “I’ve had to cheer for a lot worse teams than that. That’s for damn sure.”
Some online spots opened Philadelphia as high as -5 and took early sharp money on the underdog, according to Mike Perry of Sportsbook.ag. He says 53 percent of the action is on the Eagles while 65 percent of the moneyline action is siding with the home team (Philadelphia -170).
As for the total, Rood reports the majority of money in Las Vegas is coming in on the under. Most books have seen the number open around 50 and drop to 49.5 points. The public pounded the Over and the Eagles’ new up-tempo offense versus San Diego in Week 2 but are being more cautious with this being Philadelphia’s third game in 11 days.
“This is a tough spot for the Eagles,” says Rood. “Their defense has to be gassed. They’ve been on the field a long time in those games. They had a long second half versus the Redskins. The betting on the under is a little bizarre but perhaps they don’t think the Eagles have 53 plays in the first half in them at this point.”
