Enfuego - This will have no impact on Taliban/AQ attempts to kill or capture US troops. These people have being trying to kill or capture US troops for past 12 years. Just like you said, they have alternative motives on why they want to do this. The fact of the matter is that these guys are not too competent evident by the fact they have only captured 1 USA soldier, and this was because the guy literally walked into their arms without any weapons. This argument only works if you live in fairy land where the Taliban/AQ never thought of the idea of capturing USA troops in order to trade them in. I'm pretty sure they have thought of this before, but just couldn't execute it.

In terms of the 5 released, yes they are bad guys, but are they superman bad guys? There are millions of their elk in that part of the world. Are we to believe these guys are somehow much more competent then the rest of those folks? It aint like we are fightin 10-15 of these guys, and an extra 5 will make all the world in difference. After 12 years in captivity, they are essentially are out of the game. Probably bunch of senile old man.

You aren't understanding. An American working in Paris is now a target. An American visiting his sister in Saudi Arabia is now a target. An American backpacking in Australia is now a target. All because the terrorists now know we will trade prisoners. Has nothing to do with US troops.

Trust me when I tell you this. This is one topic in which you are way over your head. Please, just be silent. I've spent 18 months in Afghanistan. Interacted with the locals over and over again. You learn a little bit about who they are and where they come from but you also learn about the Taliban. This is a topic in which you know nothing about.

Or, you can do what you normally do, and pretend as if you are the smartest man in the room and a middle east terror expert or expert on our TTP's in Afghanistan. I would expect this actually.

It doesn't matter how long you spent in Afghanistan, it doesn't change the fact that Americans backpacking in Australia aren't going to start being nabbed by the Taliban to get their buddies from GITMO out. What a ridiculous belief.

I said they are targets. Americans are targets anywhere and everywhere and if you don't believe that, we don't have much else to talk about.

Yea I have to agree with here..... Obama set a terrible precedent with long term consequences trying to score some cheap political points.

Fellow soldiers call Bowe Bergdahl a deserter, not a hero

"I was pissed off then, and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sgt. Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl's platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war, and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."

Obama's priority is to get the AWOL soldier and let the Marine sit in a Mexican jail.

When I think of the guys I want @ the "tip of the spear", i.e. on the front line in combat, who when faced w/fight or flight choose the latter. In other words a warrior mentality. Someone who spent 5 or 6 yrs studying ballet doesn't immediately come to mind. But, that's just me.:):)

Six American soldiers died, and five extremely dangerous terrorists have been released, in order to secure the rescue of a man who abandoned his brigade and abandoned his country.

There is nothing to cheer about here.

Here are the names of the 6 men who died looking for this coward. Their names:
  • Staff Sergeant Clayton Bowen;
  • Private 1st Class Morris Walker;
  • Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss;
  • 2nd Lieutenant Darryn Andrews;
  • Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey;
  • Private 1st Class Matthew Martinek.

You should just not comment . You are always wrong and a known liar.

Let the process play out, prove you wrong and then you can move onto the next line of bullshit.

We already know the military does what it can to get back POW's no matter the situation or speculations of what caused him to be a POW.

Those same people were a target before this deal. These people kill americans no matter what and make no distinction between civilians and soldiers.....this deal doesn't change any of that.

Sounds reasonable to me...

As some question whether Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is a hero or a deserter, President Barack Obama is defending the decision to secure the soldier's release from his Taliban captors in exchange for transferring five prisoners out of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

"We don't leave men and women in uniform behind," he said during a news conference in Warsaw, Poland, on Tuesday.

"This is what happens at the end of wars," Obama said of the prisoner swap. "Regardless of the circumstances, we still get an American soldier back if he's held in captivity. Period."

The question's of Bergdahl's conduct is separate from the effort to recover any missing U.S. soldier, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey said in a statement.

"As for the circumstances of his capture, when he is able to provide them, we'll learn the facts," Dempsey said. "Like any American, he is innocent until proven guilty."

He added: "Our Army's leaders will not look away from misconduct if it occurred."
