All you got to do is listen to satch boogie one time. And you realize the list is sorely mistaken for omitting Joe Satriani.

I'm trying real hard to be the sheppard. But it's not working out.

Al Di Meola was one of favorites growing up. Don't know how he didn't make the top 100. And Neil Young is in the T100? He always sounded like he was playing guitar with an oven mitten on one hand and a crowbar in the other.

Chris Degarmo should be top 10 and he is not even on the list. These types of lists are pathetic.

Anybody see the movie Crossroads with Steve Vai dueling the Karate Kid at the end for his soul? Yeah, most people didn't either. Awesome solos though...of course it is Steve Vai playing both parts

Really? I thought Ry Cooder did the Karate Kid's part. I know he was involved in the movie.

This list i crap. I was a Nirvana guy growing up, but it took me 2 minutes to learn InUtero & Nevermin:lol:

Al DiMeola is amazing and I don't see him on here.

Satch, Vai, Eric Johnson all great guitarists who are not mentioned who could play circles around overrated hacks like BB King.

The one guitar player that did not make the list and should be a crime is John Petrucci of Dream Theater. Amazing guitar player and not just shred guy either. DT & Petrucci's solo work are amazing.

Also forgot to mentioned Andy Timmons...

I also remember studying some of lynch's music and understanding his theory, but once he tried making up modes such as the gothic octave, I knew he was just an 80's shred head.

what a joke of a magazine and a list

eddie van halen
derek trucks
randy rhoads
tony iommi
angus young (joan jett is better) give me a f'ing break

all these are not even in the top 70????i wished this was not even posted...now i will spend all day pissed off

Toilet paper is what this list is good for with Roy Clark not even listed.

Before you laugh or think I'm joking, most every solid guitarist from the 60s/70s regularly referred to Clark as being one of the best finger picking guitarists ever.

Good roadhouse blues players today often prefer to play without picks because it gives a bit fatter sound and it's much more challenging.

Roy Clark and Glen Campbell.

Just saw your post...Not so sure about GC, but Clark is essential

Most folks my age (48) or younger only think of Clark from his role as a cast regular on HEE HAW.

well i may agree but what about the legions of guitar players since 1980 that have said that without eddie van halen they would have never picked up a guitar...many,many times i have seen that on tv and in print interviews....i have never seen one say they did for ry cooder

BUSTER, I read a pretty good analysis that noted that while most guitar styles and talents are passed down through various genres, there are four most notable points of transition in the skill.

Roy Clark in the 50s/60s took guitar picking into the electric age.

Jimi Hendrix then took the electric into the big amp/distortion pedals age

Stevie Ray merged Jimi and roadhouse blues

And then Eddie Van Halen set down a totally fresh style that has been emulated for the almost 30 years since.

Al Di Meola was one of favorites growing up. .

WORD UP....Had not heard any Al in quite some time.

I've been rebuilding my music collection over the past three years and you've inspired me to go and get Elegant Gypsy this weekend.

I've got to interject Buck Dharma's (Blue Oyster Cult) name into this debate. He's definitely in my top ten or at least 15.

what a joke!
Cobain? He never met a key he couldn't play in.
Hammett? Fast does not equal good.
Jerry Garcia? you're kidding me, right?
Jack White??? see Jerry Garcia
Tom Morello?? he's decent, but doesn't play anything I can't play, and I suck.
Lou Reed? He probably wrote RS and told them off for putting him on that list. He knows he sucks.
Angus Young!?? :ohno: ok that's it...I want the last 5 minutes of my life back.

not surprising that list was put together by that sh*t rag Rolling Stone.
