I'm pretty sure that at least 50 of the top 69 would laugh out loud if they were told that they were ranked ahead of EVH. The guy is a virtuoso - he pioneered a lot of the techniques still used by lead guitarists today. He even designed pieces of guitar hardware. I can't stand the music he makes, but he is easily top 10 material.
:think2: Odd list. By putting Jimi at #1, you indicate that you're going for the "greatest guitar hero/icon" angle. In that regard, the top 4 make sense. Robert Johnson was a huge influence on blues guitarists, but hardly a hero. Ry Cooder is pretty low-profile, Cobain was a musical idol more than a guitarist (acknowledged himself that he could barely play the instrument), Jack White at #17 is a joke (2003 bias, I suppose). I could go on and on.
