Have to admit Tiger is probably tops as far as role models. He is usually if not always polite, well mannered and considerate when being interviewed. That is not a front, that is him.
He may not have broken the color barrier ala Jackie, but he did put an American half black in front of the white good ol boys. The respect he earned winning the first green jacket? Better start serving chitlins and black eyed peas or whatever those people eat.
On the course he is ruthless, but focused on one thing, winning. I have seen him move people out of his sight line, politely, and not flip out when a clown in the gallery lets his cel phone go or clears their throat when hitting. One time Reggie Jackson, other end of the good guy spectrum popped into the golfers only tent to congradualte Tiger. At first Tiger blew him off, not even recognizing him. He did a double take, broke his focus and said, howya doin, shook his hand.
Almost everything he does towards kids, underpriveleged youths, is all free. His own time. He just made a spot to appeal to kids/adults to adhere to the video game guidelines. Although he has earned more than he can ever spend, he has earned it. What has Michelle Wie won? Tiger is a once in my lifetime person. A Stanford grad, a class individual and a person of color. He is there, or almost to being the greatest golfer of all time, in a sport where no judges or refs can help you. You know who he thanks for it all? His Mom and Dad. You know what, they made him. If you are a parent, think about that. You might not raise the greatest golfer ever, but you sure can try to instill the values he has.
Best Wishes...OF :howdy:
