You can't definitively compare players from different generations,
different equipment, different courses, different competition.

Jack dominated his generation, Tiget dominated his. All the
rest is pure speculation and nothing else.

exactly . which is why you turn to the numbers and stats .

jack has won more. hence he is the best ever until tiger passes him.

i wonder how jack would have done with the current equipment

the only thing that keeps guys close to tiger is the equipment.....if it were persimmon drivers and old prostaff irons ...tiger would all time instead of most

Jordan??? Such a good athlete he hit .150 in low A ball. and cant break 90 in golf despite thousands of dollars in lessons from Harmon. Jordan is a CLOWN compared to Tiger. Not to mention I just watched on ESPN classic the refs kiss his ass all the way to a win vs UTah in 98. Totall ref aided bs.

Have you ever seen Tiger try to dunk over 7 footers or hit a 95mph fastball?

The point was being dominant in their respective sports. Jordan's golfing or baseball really have nothing to do with the matter.

agree 100%... when talking about this a lot of people point to the equipment and say that's part of what makes tiger great. like you said, all it does is help the field out imo, tiger would dominate even more without the new technology.

I don't see what the equipment issue has to do with anything. Everyone has access to the same equipment as their competitors.

As far as I'm concerned, more relevant is the fact that Tiger has so much more potential competition than Nicklaus had. 20-40 years ago there were fewer people around, golf was much more limited to play by the "elite" and not as widely played, the PGA didn't draw international talent as much as now. IN sum, the competition pool was so much smaller. 40 years ago a "Tiger Woods" would never have taken to the course. No disrespect to Jack, but he's the 2nd best ever now.

Better equipment gives you length and forgiveness, thats about it. Newer technology helps out amateurs more than it does pro golfers. Tiger would most likely break every old-shafted driver swinging as hard as he does. Pros prefer blades over cavity backs because of feel and accuracy. They have the consistency to hit the sweetspot 95% of the time.
