Better scorer ? Is this some kind of joke? MJ avgd. 30.1 ppg and shot .497%, this after the 2 seasons with the Wiz that dropped him below 31 ppg and under 50% fg. Kobe's a mediocre 25.1 ppg and .455 fg %.
Don't forget Kobe was 18 when he came into the NBA and didn't start his first 2 seasons, while Jordan was the man on his team his very first NBA game.

In 2006 after tying it with a 3 to put it in overtime, he knocks Portland out of the playoffs on the last day of the regular season with an amazing fade away 3 pointer.

Anyone can play the youtube game:

Kobe's airballs in clutch moments

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzMYKBtl5Xw&feature=related

And how many of those 40 point games did he take 30+ shots? I bet there are a lot of players in the league who could score 53 points if they took 44 shots or 58 points on 45 shots or 52 on 38 shots.

Overall, they're pretty even. If Kobe took as many shots as MJ, and MJ got as many FT attempts as Kobe, Jordan has about 1 more point per game, 1 more steal, reounds, assists, and blocks are almost the same. If we go by stats on their 29th year, it would indicate #23 is slightly better then #24.

Can't believe this is that hard of a concept for you to grasp...

The Jordan era favored inside game for post up players, which is why the era was essentially dominated by such (Robinson, Ewing, Hakeem, Barkley, etc). It most definitely did not favor perimeter players who attempted to go inside. With the hand checking rules, and whistle happy refs of todays game, perimeter players not only have a much easier time getting into the lane, but they have less to worry about when going to the rim. No worry of getting knocked down hard without major repricusions to the opposing player (flagrant, ejection, suspension, etc).

To recap, the Jordan era favored low post players, but today's game favors perimeter players getting to the rim. Last time I checked, both Jordan and Kobe were perimeter players who liked to go to the rim. Thus, with the rule differences of the era's, Jordans inside accomplishments only strengthen his case over Kobe! Not sure if I can make this more clear for you.

You are misunderstanding what I am trying to say. Do you not remember how often Jordon used to post up????? A HELL of alot more than Kobe.

Yea, he did alright. "pretend you are a frog on a lily pad."
yeah that did sound like some silly stuff he was saying Phil said in the locker room. But hey, Phil obliviously knows something about how to get players to play and react to him, no matter what his teaching methods may be.

Heres further proof that Jordan was a much better overall shooter than Kobe ...

* I had to exclude Jordans first 2 years in these stats.

Jordan Had 525 30+ pt games , MJ shot over 60 % from the field in 122 of those games. 23.2 %

Bryant has had 308 career 30+ pt games, KB shot over 60 % in 59 of those games 18.2 %

Well most of you would say those numbers are actually pretty close in comparision, and you would be right, they are .. However as the shots get higher and pts go up thats when we notice a signifigant distance between the two.

Jordan had 166 career 40+ pt games , MJ shot over 60% from the field in 64 of those games. 38.5 %

Bryant has 96 career 40+ pt games , KB shot over 60% from the field in 19 of those games. 19.7 %

and now for the kicker ... 50 point games shooting over 60 %

Jordan 31 career 50pt games , he shot over 60 % in 16 of them
51.6 %

Bryant has 24 career 50pt games, he has only shot over 60 % in 6 of them ... 25.0 %

If anybody needs an explantion of what this means , Ill be happy to explain, just let me know ....

MJ would'nt let anyone beat him, his will to win is what truly seperates him from everyone else. He always found a way to win and evolved his game as it was needed.

Scottie should have slapped the taste out of his ignorant mouth. It looked like he wanted to.

MJ's high game was much more impressive with 69pts on 62% shooting, 18rbs, 6 ast and 4 stls.

Kobe's 62 points in three quarters agains the #1 Seed in the Western conference with the leagues MVP...is better than this as well

Try again part deaux

Stat I just unearthed

There has been 159 50+ pt games scored in regular season games in the NBA since the 1986-1987 seasons. Of those 159 times , on 15 occasions the player who scored 50 or more shot UNDER 50 % from the field ....

Jordan did it once ... (48.4 )
Wade has done it (48.7)
Paul Peirce even did it once (47.2)
Iverson whose never known at shot he didnt like made the list once (47.2)
Mcgrady Once (46.9)

Well in fact quite a few players made the list once, but only once.Nobody made it twice out of the 15 times it happened, Nobody except for Kobe that is who made that list SIX times. Including the lowest 3 individual scores overall (41.5 , 43.2 , 44.7) It just goes to show , if you keep shooting you can score alot of pts and Kobe a career 45.5 % shooter isnt afraid to huck it up there.

On the flip side of this list is the top shooting percentages when people go for 50 or More and you guessed it ....Jordan has 7 of the top 15 scores. (including numbers 1,4 and 6 )

Well, except for those first 6 years in the league, and 1995, and those 2 years with the Wizards.

I was actually at that game.
Upper nose bleads, behind the basket.
Paid twenty bucks from a scalper right after tip off.
Remember how that game ended?

Jordan and the Bulls down two, :001 on the clock, Jordan needing two free throws just to send the game to o/t.

What happened you ask?
First free throw, nothing but net.
Second free throw, ditto.

Most pressure packed free throws I have ever seen.
