Chop,

You think 80% of of the people making $30-$100K DID NOT graduate from college.

Do you suffer from down syndrome?

like I said, it's only a few that do the bashing. I enjoy interacting with all the other posters and ignoring the haters is not a big deal to me. I post because I don't do facebook and most of my friends aren't huge sports fans like me. 0% of the people I know in the real world sports bet too.

Except the fact that you wanted to "make a splash" on a gambling forum so people would like you.

Other than doing that and posting about your dream job 3 different times and posting your GPA and asking about law school and posting about a top 10-20 school multiple times when it wasn't relevant and wanting to be liked by people you don't know....

Again outside that you don't care what people think. You put the weird in weirdo

So I did some more research by basically contacting anyone and everyone i know that is a lawyer or going through law school right now. Consensus is that it is worth it if you (1) go to a top 100 law school and (2) genuinely like the law.

From what they are telling me most of the people who can not find jobs are the ones going to these tier 4 schools. Essentially the Ivy Tech of law schools. The ones that are miserable are the people that went to law school "just because" and are now strapped in debt so they can not pursue what they really want to.

What you need to focus on is getting good at what you do.
Great investment salesmen make more money then bad lawyers every day of the week.
Its not really the vehicle you drive that matters, its how you drive it.

Well if thats the case you need to find an entry level job in the business field that does not involve sales that you would enjoy.
Ignore the starting pay at first.
Find out how much money the top person in the company makes.
And if thats enough money to make you happy. Make it your mission to get that job.

I think that is very good advice. Finding those entry level jobs can be harder then you think, but not being 100k in debt would be a plus.

Justin, I don't know you from Adam, but I will give you a bit of different perspective. My buddy works for this company: http://www.axa-equitable.com/home.html and his "5" year degree was a BA in English..........he did some deadliest catch style crabbing for a few years and joined the company where they basically handed him a phone book.
Now he is one of the number one planners on the west coast, with a majority of his clients from Microsoft. Granted he is driven and put in the hours but once accepted and passed his Series 7 and 63 from there is was the different designations such as certified financial planner, and Chartered Underwriter and a few weeks at the Wharton Financial school paid for by the company.

Point being, he knew it was about sales, they told him upfront it was about sales, and he went into knowing he had to sell. Now 15 years later he can coach his kids full time, goes on what he calls "Fake Business Trips" which are paid for by the company and take off early to ski or water ski, plays in about 3 or 4 different softball leagues and literally and figuratively controls his life.

I get the fact that you may not like sales, as I was accepted by the American Express Financial advisors, and I was not keen to sell in that way and chose commercial real estate instead. However, it is a common misnomer that you need some sort of advanced degree to truly succeed in this field, even in Management, where one of his buddies was a history major as well. Good luck!

Only true if you're talking about running your own company Chop. No way you can advance in a Fortune 500 company without one.

Really? I guess I should withdraw my application for the management job I just put in for at my company then according to you, since I never went to college, let alone graduated from one. And I work for a Fortune 100 company. In fact, it's the 3rd Frtune 100 company I have worked for in my lifetime with no college education. Sometimes , it's not about the degree but about your work ethic and what you are willing to do to advance yourself once you get in the door...

What industry are you? Certain industries won't interview you without a degree.

I don't think you read anything I said.

When it comes to advancement in the top companies in America, if you don't have a degree then your work ethic means jack to management. When you don't have a degree and you are competing for a CEO position in one the top companies in the U.S. there is a ceiling.

If you own your own company then no problem the sky's the limit. If you are an employee, there is a ceiling.

What are your chances of getting that management job against someone that has the same experience as yourself and the same work ethic as yourself but they have a Master's Degree?

The best way I can describe it is not having a degree is a self eliminator and closes not opens doors.

I read exactly what you said. You said that NO ONE can advance in a Fortune 500 company without a college degree. You are wrong because I have an excellent chance to get this management job. The job is being filled from within the company and a degree is not required. There are other applicants applying for the job that have college degrees, but my experience will go much further than their degree.
