I read exactly what you said. You said that NO ONE can advance in a Fortune 500 company without a college degree. You are wrong because I have an excellent chance to get this management job. The job is being filled from within the company and a degree is not required. There are other applicants applying for the job that have college degrees, but my experience will go much further than their degree.

Please provide the post number in this thread where I said NO ONE CAN ADVANCE in a Fortune 500 company without a college degree.

Thanks in advance.

What industry are you? Certain industries won't interview you without a degree.

I work for DuPont. Entry level positions do not require a degree to get an interview where I work. I agree that certain positions obviously require a degree. I posted on this forum last year that we were looking for a production engineer, which obviously needed a college degree to get an interview. We just recently filled that position after looking for over a year. Trying to find good engineers is very difficult these days and that is probably as good a field to get into right now as any.

C'mon Wabash, obviously there are millions upon millions of corporate employees. It is not like he said it is impossible to advance without a college degree, just that it is making it a much, much more uphill battle.

What he said I said is not accurate. Maybe I'm mistaken though? We'll see what is provided.

wabash is right, though - if you can get your foot in the door without needing the degree your years of experience is more valuable to a company than the degree itself.

Hey, he is the one who said you cant advance in a Fortune 500 company without a degree. He said it in post 90. Im sure now he will change his wording to say that's not what he meant, but it's what he said.

lol nobody is saying it is impossible to advance without a degree in corporate america, just that in 2013 it is far and away the road less traveled and not optimal. Doesn't mean it can't be done.

Umm you are taking what he said out of context bigtime. He said it in response to chop saying it isn't an obstacle to make 10Ms a year.

lol it was in response to chop saying it doesn't hurt your odds of making 10Ms a year, which is wrong. You are really nitpicking....

And considering all along we were talking about being the CEO of that Fortune 500 company.

Of course a guy can advance in a Fortune 500 company without a college degree but what I said all along in this thread is there is a ceiling. You self eliminate by not having one.

Let's say you're the janitor at Microsoft. Sure you can advance to head janitor. That would make your point come true and of course that kind of advancement is completely possible. I'm saying the top dog. The CEO.

Something like this is just dumb to argue about. Let's move on to something more productive huh? Hope you get the job.

The first sentence in that post was in response to what Chop said. The second sentence was not.

lol yes it was. It was in relation to the subject at hand.

I'm really not going to argue this as it is total semantics and pretty obvious what enfuego's opinion is (the same as the rest of us ITT pretty much)

Do you have an ax to grind or something? You seem relatively sane in other threads

No ax to grind. Maybe I interpreted what he said differently than others. I'm just going by what I read and the way I read it, he was saying no way a person can advance in a Fortune 500 company without a degree. And that is simply not true. (Relatively sane? On here I will take that as a compliment, lol)
