Okay, I am back. Sorry about the time off as we have been moving some things around and have now settled in and hopefully it should be smooth sailing from here on out. Long story shot we honestly spent almost every waking minute of daylight looking for a new places to live for 10 straight days, so I am way behind from where I thought I would be but the good news is I wasnt really planning on much till September 1st betting wise and GF starts her job at Harrah's Monday so I guess we can look at it as sort of a mini vacation of sorts.
Been here going on 3 weeks and here is a few observations:
- the weather is the same every flippin day. Never a cloud in the sky. I knew this was to be expected but being from the Midwest it is still a shock. I havent once looked at a weather forecast since I have been here as there is no reason to. When you come from Michigan that is all you do is plan everything around the weather. As for the heat it isnt as bad as I thought it would be. They say about 1 more month of the hot stuff and then it is just nice warm weather the rest of the year.
- It is true no one is from here. I ask all the time and I have only ran into one person that says they were born here and she was 20 years old. Most have been here less than 5 years, not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. The funny thing is the GF and I keep being told that we sound like we come from the midwest with our accents. I have never heard anyone say this to me in all of my life. Not sure midwesterners have accents but according to most here we do.
- One thing that is hard to get use to is you are always thirsty. It just sneaks up on you and when you get thirsty you almost feel sick if you dont get a drink of water fast. I was never a big water drinker in the past but here that is all I do. Our stuff from the movers just showed up Thursday and I pulled out our scale and weighed myself and I lost 6 lbs since we left Michigan. I think a lot of that is because of all the water you drink makes you feel less hungry, combined with the heat also takes away from your appetitte.
- As for the 3 hour time difference (esp with sports), I hate it. I am sure I will be able to get use to it but trying to do things and talk to others back in Michigan makes this hard. Like right now I have been up less than 2 hours in Vegas (it is 9:30 am) and a buddy of mine called me on his lunch hour from work. A lot of time I will be driving around at 6:00 pm est and think about the Tigers game and then realize it has been on for 2 hours already (it's 9pm est) and I look it is the bottom of the 7th inning. The same thing goes with posting here at the RX, it will be 10pm pst and I will be posting/reading and I will think the east coasters are all sleeping. When I get up and going it seems like everything is up and rolling and you are just behind, it will take some getting use too. Cant wait for football weekends, that will be really odd.
- Okay the important stuff, betting. I have honestly made just one bet on anything up to this minute and that is on today Detroit Lions game where I got a -2.5 (-110) yesterday at the RR and everywhere else had -3 but now I look it is 2.5 everywhere so that number is nothing special. I have not played one hand of poker or blackjack, not even put a penny in the slots. I want to make sure everything is just right before I get started and I want to be completely orgainized. With all the problems with the movers and the home situation I just wasnt ready. Will start to get things going later today.
- One of the main reasons I came here is too meet a few different people around town and maybe work a little with/for them from a gambling standpoint, picking up some extra money along the way and hopefully some extra pointers also. I met one guy who does this for a living and my respect for this guy grew 10X more than it already was (and it was very high to begin with). This guy put wayyyyyyy more time and effort into this than I ever imagined. It was unbelieveable just talking to this guy. He knew all the season win totals with juice of every CFB and NFL team and the week 1 lines of both CFB abd NFL and there was no hesistation in his voice when you asked him what they were. He rattled them of one by one in a split second. I have been to a couple different dinners with 2 other groups of people and was also very impressed with how much passion these guys had for this and just finding great plays all over town. I thought I was a high volume player, it wasnt even close as these guys grab everything they see that looks like it has value ad then figure out what to do with it later. The one good thing meeting these guys has done has reassured me this is what I want to do right now with my life and being here is where I want to attempt to do it.
-I have to admit I am a little intimadated right now from a "what to do first" standpoint. This is why I almost hope to be mentored a little bit by one particular player/group. I know what I have done on my own does work and I have won doing it in the past, so I dont want to stray too far away from that. I plan on working on my own stuff during certain hours of the day but I also want to find out the best times to go to certain places, etc.. Basically I want to find the best way to maximize my time. It seems like there are so many options to explore but the problem is I dont have a set pattern to my everyday. I am sure that will eventually come but until then I am just feeling some things out and I think doing too much of that can be overwhelming at times. I think the bottom line is I need to focus on working my ass off to find great numbers over town and on the net. This is my main job right now and should be my main focus. I have always been a huge volume player (around 900 plays a month on average) with a small edge (2% or so). That to me is my philopsophy with sportsbetting and what I am have to stick too. This has worked for me in the past and what best suits what I do. I would eventually like to add other things to what I do with all the time I have here to do this but I wont know until I sit here for a few weeks and see how it goes, just other stuff to grind out profits.
-The one thing I think I have already learned and noticed (and probably the most important thing) is you need to figure most of this stuff (whatever that is) out on your own, there is no one who has the time to hold my hand and teach me different things. Every so called pro (whatever his game of choice is) in this town is fighting for a lot of the same dollars and little old me is just another small fish in this big pond. That is why I hope to work a little with a few different people and maybe pick up so somethings they do while I watch from a distance. Not contradictng myself from earlier with wanting a mentor, as I would still love someone to hang out with and ask a few questions to help me get a better feel on how to use my time. I am more looking for someone who I can just watch work for a week or so and I can pick up on some things. Maybe lower the learning curve for me in certain areas. Hoepfully I find that but if not I am sure I will find eventually figure most of this out on my own.
(Fish, you would be proud of me. I drove around to Borders and Barnes and Noble yesterday looking for poker magazines to read, they were out. I ended up walking thru the Red Rock poker room and seen the 2 magazines I was looking for and they were free. You gotta love it!!)
