West Bromwich Albion vs. Liverpool FC
Either I am way off in my perception of what is about to take place here between these two clubs tonight or we have the making of a FIX. Am I the only one that sees some real value in backing West Brom this evening? Either both clubs will do their best to lose this match or WBA destroys Liverpool.
Rogers has made it 100% crystal clear that the EPL is his main priority. Evidence to which is the side he fielded against Young Boys in the Europa League and further supported by the fact that Liverpool are off to their worst league start in 101 years.
After reading half a dozen news reports and a few on the Liverpool supporter blogs “The KOP”, it is 99% positive (Just waiting for the official line-ups to be announced) that Liverpool’s 2nd stringers will stock the XI. They are expecting a similar Liverpool team to the one that played Young boys a week ago and Liverpool weren't that great in Switzerland.
So let me ask you this, “Why is Liverpool favored in to this match?" They have yet to win with their 1st Team Line-up in 5 matches.
West Brom has been strong and unbeaten and has yet to concede a goal at home. They bounced back nicely after the loss on the road to the Cottagers and have the confidence of their manager to remain at the top. They beat Liverpool’s 1st Team comfortably 3-0. I expect a few changes but come on; they should be favored at home to The Reds.
What bothers me the most is that League Cup matches are hard to predict, but the way the Baggies have played and the opportunity for additional income and silverware is tempting. With Everton and Fulham out of contention, the door is open for advancement and success.
West Brom assistant manager Keith Downing has spoken about their determination to do well in the Cup.
Downing said, “We’ve got a seriousness towards the competition. People will say we made 10 changes against Yeovil but I don’t think we weakened the team. There were a lot of international players in there. We are conscious of the Premier League being very important but equally there is a seriousness about going as far as we can in this competition.”
However, based on the expected squad selection, it's difficult to see just how serious West Brom really is about The Cup. I am hoping WBA will field a strong XI securing a home win. We’ll see.
Liverpool absences:
Jose Enrique, Lucas Leiva, Daniel Agger, Martin Kelly, Fabio Borini, Jon Flanagan (Injury List).
Jonjo Shelvey (Suspended).
Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson, Pepe Reina and Joe Allen (Rested).
Waiting for the starting XI to be announced for WBA and Liverpool.
STAY TUNED!
