Reading FC vs. Tottenham Hotspur

OK. I am not impressed with my last few results and I have spent considerable time digging as deep as I can into this match. Getting the shaft on a couple of occasions always motivates me even more. I will keep this a simple as possible.

FACTS:

· Reading is rested and has not played an EPL match since Aug. 22nd.
· Reading almost beat Chelsea who needed the AR to fix the match in the end.
· Reading was the best defensive side in the Championship last season.
· Spurs have only won once in their last 11 away matches.
· Spurs are not the same since they lost Modric and Van der Vaart.
· AVB is a terrible manager with terrible tactical decision making skills.
· Both teams are winless.
· NO AWAY WINS YESTERDAY in the EPL.

What I see happening today:

I see a desperate Spurs side taking the field and that is never good. Spurs have trouble scoring, have a weak midfield and concede late goals. Reading was the best defensive team in the Championship last season evidenced by the way they held off Chelsea on the road and nursed a lead for 35 minutes before the FIX. (FYI: They were 5th in scoring too.)

I was initially leaning towards the under in this match as I don’t see Tottenham scoring a goal here. But the way Reading has been attacking (Chelsea match) I like my chances backing the home side better today in what could evolve into a 2-1 match.

Let me digress back to last season when there were more than a couple of “Must Win” or “They are Due for a Win” situations that faced Spurs and in all those cases came up blank. Now with a weaker manager at the helm reinforces the fact that I will not fall into this trap today.

Realistically this could be another draw but I have a good feeling that The Royals will nick an early goal for the faithful and ride it to the 90’.

LOL.

Too much rust on the Royals. Sitting out has its disadvantages.

Defensively a shambles. What burns the most is AVB gets his 1st win.

LOL

On to the next round..............

really like this spurs squad. not joking when i say they might have the most talented, creative MF in the EPL now (well, starters of course). missing that rock in defensive MF to play in front of back 4 but they're going to be a ton of fun to watch this season.

I have to agree they looked good and fun to watch. However, they were given too much space and Reading stood around like pilons. That would make anyone look good. The Royals were just too rested and the rust showed.

Let's see how they fare against the cream of the league. Then we'll resume this conversation.

I'm already looking at the Man U vs Spurs matchup Sep 29th. It will be Spurs 5th match in 14 days and it's at Old Trafford.

I am taking Man U as soon as I can get a line posted for that game.

United are in a similar position but they are at home and Spurs will be traveling. Not a fan of Brad Friedel in goal for Spurs so I am looking at the Red Devils ripping a hole in that net. AVB will play a high line and cross his fingers.

Everton vs. Newcastle

Keeping things very simple today in what is an obvious mis-match, at least today it is.

When I looked at this match up, the first thing that struck me was the pace of play that both sides exhibit. Fast, attacking and they have the strikers to support this style of play.

I’m sure most of you are aware that Newcastle is limping into this match with a bevy of injuries and hence the +1 handicap. The Magpies have not settled in just yet and will face a better side today on the road at Goodison Park. The one bright spot for Alan Pardew is that Ba and Cisse work well together and should get their chances. The injury that is doing it for me is, KRUL. Without him controlling matters from the back and in a hostile environment; I see doom and gloom for the Magpies today.

I believe Newcastle will struggle today in the midfield and most assuredly in their defense. I was giving the total some serious consideration, but I find better odds taking the side and the AH. I don’t know how Newcastle will score or win for that matter, but I fully expect a 2 goal margin by the Toffees to be met.

I have read lots of chatter about how the Magpies will be playing to win, but that doesn’t fool me one bit….they will be barricading themselves in for a draw……that will not come.

***Newcastle have not covered the spread in their last 6 matches as a Favorite or Dog.

***Everton has covered the spread in 12 of their last 14 home matches (with 1 Push) and covered 7 of their last 7 matches at home.

Everton -1 (-105) 3 Units

Goodluck on this play. Lots of steam on everton.

Thanks for mentioning that. I looked and it's seems so. Not sure which book moved first. Wish I knew.

If its the wrong book then it could be a bad sign. LOL. We shall see.

WOW. They are pounding the Toffes. Now -125.

Goooooo Everton!!!

Hope the pressure stays the way it is for the 90.

Looking for a play from you on ***MNF*** Varkey. Hope you have one.

I feel bad for Harper who gets tossed into these types of games. He has been a career back up that deserved more in his early years.

Magpies playing a 4-5-1 so don't see any desire to attack except for the fast break or two.

Everton 3-1 Newcastle (this is my prediction)

Don't think this will last especially if Everton score before the 80'.

It's a real shame that the refs can really screw up a good bet.

Should have been 3-1 but we can't beat the officials.

This whole crew is shit. I hate Jones as much as Webb. They are both Wankers and shouldn't be refereeing.

I just hope for the push and Karma.

I'm kicking myself for not taking the over, which was my first choice and passed.

Serves me right. Can't blame Everton for giving up now. They've been robbed all night.

But they don't deserve the victory either with very shabby defending.

hey areu....respect that you come and post yer picks regardless, cuz you actually give a reason...but backing any team with tim howard as a keeper, well you are on yer own....if you have seen me post anything about him in the past, you will note that he goes to his knees on the ground quicker than a hooker.......ps. everton were robbed of 3 points in this match..cuz at 3-1 i think there wasn't enough time for newcastle to mount this comeback they came up with today...cheers

if both goals count 3-1 and newcastle probably lie down after that...the record counts it as a loss but all us punters know it was the right call....but yeah Tim Howard to keep a clean sheet has never been uttered by me ever.

GL with CL - don't fear the Arsenal ... welcome to the CL montpellier ... 0-3....
