Arukidnme, really sorry, when I posted yesterday I didn't come back to the forum until now. I never saw your reply, but we will have to link up on October 12th vs. Cuba. Now that I know I can message you before hand. But... What a game it was.

Crowd really rallied behind the team, 17,000+ is a good turnout considering the public's lack of support for the team. A home game vs. Panama doesn't necessarily catch the eye of the casual Toronto soccer fan.

DeRo's goal was a bit confusing for everybody up in the press box but once the ref pointed to half, most of the people up there couldn't help but let out a small cheer, however brief it was lol. All the pressure was on Canada, draw would have been great for Panama so the fact that the Canucks were able to dig deep and find the winner was something special too see. Hopefully they carry this momentum into Panama and pick up a result. Qualifying for the hex would certainly help spark fan support as well. Not to mention possibly prompting Hoilett to make a decision (hopefully the right one) regarding his international career.

Also, I've been saying it since the first round, Simeon Jackson is a must start. Not only is he fast, but he creates chances and can provide a great ball into the box. That's the difference between him and Ricketts. I like Ricketts, but he really only has his speed.

Can't wait till Tuesday!

to me the pitch was pretty poor with the ball bouncing way too high but i wasn't there ... but when a team like Canada are trying to pass it around we should have a better pitch...perhaps it was just me though. As for Holiet, the problem is Jamaica is one of his options and if Canada lose to Panama and Jamaica appears to be heading to the final phase he might join them...and if they make him eligible for England then we are definitely toast.

The line for Canada +0.5 is evens - i would never bet it because of my never bet my club/country rule but good line here. Panama might settle for a draw if it is close late because their last two matches are home to Hondurus and vs Cuba so qualifying to the next round would still be theirs to lose even if they draw. To me this one draws, Panama beats Hondurus and Cuba and qualify and as long as we don't blow it in Hondurus and home to Cuba we can advance too. I remember coming home from Canada v Jamiaca last go around and know we were done....so nice to still have hope 1/2 way through.

Seems Canadian media doesn't give us much as a chance if we do advance to actually qualify...top 4 out of 6? Why not? And 4th will probably play New Zealand in the crossover and that one is winnable too..

No worries we'll see you at the next match. Agree with Jackson as the man. He will net the winner in Panama (mark my words). I will add that Bernier is a must keep as well.

Salvadoran refs for Tuesday won't make it easy but they typically don't like Panama so it's a good thing for Canada.

Dials

The pitch was in great shape. I walked it before the match and they watered at half time. Players make excuses all the time. Not sure I want to talk about the hex just yet and Jamaica will get their just deserts when they play the USA In Columbus Tuesday. The ref will be from Honduras and that is a bonus. Not pleased with Mexican that ref'd the match Friday.

I will keep it simple.... What I found frustrating was the fact that Canada was struggling to get the ball from the midfielders to the forwards. They need to work on that aspect of the game or the only goals they will score will be on set plays.

In conclusion: I expect another low scoring match Tuesday. Canada has not allowed a goal in 8 matches. They need a clean sheet and the Hex will be within reach.

Enjoy!

i just saw on twitter that facebook fans are outside Canada's hotel banging their drums and playing music....for me that is why soccer is the best sport around. We in North America will sit outside Apple Stores but no way you could get enough people to sit around a visitors hotel for 2-3 days....hopefully Canada were prepared for it (everyone knew it would happen)...but still I hope it doesn't effect their routine too much. There was some potential red cards (or more yellows) in the last match and being in Panama the fans will be whistling for cards all day....we have been burnt with CONCACAF officials and the way these teams play but we are much smarter and control the game a whole more then we use to. Let's 0-0 0-1 them in Panama and get ready for october.

Dial,

Not sure if you are a Voyageur but here is the link if you are not. If you are not I certainly think you qualify as a Red Patch. You can stay in touch with team Canada through Jamie McLeod and you can get South End tickets through him if Canada makes it to the HEX. It's loaded with HOT women drinking beer and loving soccer. Nobody sits in the south end, stand, cheer and chant ONLY.

Has there been a break from all your soccer plays? I am subscribed to your threads, but have not seen you post a play in a LONG time it seems like. Thanks Aruk! Hope you joined me in some American Football action this past weekend.

Hi Varkey,

There is an International break in First Division Football so no matches last week and this week. The break is used for world cup qualifying. National team players head home to join their national teams.

The leagues resume this coming weekend. The next break will affect the weekend of Oct 12-14, 2012.

I will post Friday for this weekend. Current lean is the Liverpool match under 2.5 but not official yet.

Stay tuned.

PS. I subscribe to your thread too. I saw your overs and follow when they are full game. Don't play halfs. Thanks for the plays and keep up the great capping. With you on the Over 41 in the first game tonight. Stay hot buddy!

Oh i see, thank you for explaining this. I had no idea! I'll look fwd to the plays for this weekend.

Glad you got to follow on the full game OVERs. So you're on the OVER 41, but not on the OVER 46.5 in San Diego/Oakland game?

I think Hoilett knows England is too deep for him to crack a spot in their squad. Mind you, I thought the same about Jonathan de Guzman. He proved me wrong there. He will never be capped in a World Cup or European Championship game for the Dutch. It's a shame too because he would slot in perfectly as a number 10 for Canada (right behind the striker).

Canada is in a good run of form which always proves to be important in these qualifiers, but Panama is no slouch. They have some quality in their squad, but most importantly is the chemistry they seem to have. Canada tends to be much more wasteful of possession, but they can hide it better thanks to the quality of some players in the squad. Regardless, it's a tough environment to have to go to Central America and get a result. Pitch quality is poor, it tends to be very hot and the CONCACAF refs are notorious for favouring the home teams in these smaller countries.

CONCACAF got a great boost by drawing OCEANIA in the play-off. Likely means sending 4 teams to Brazil. Canada is more than capable of finishing top 4, but they need to remain in this strong run of form. It is very competitive in that final stage with plenty of quality teams. Not to mention traveling to these Central American countries is no easy task.

Cheers Dial Squares! Best of luck on your plays tomorrow

Canada struggles in their transition game, often getting frustrated and resorting to long balls, hoping one of their forwards can run under it and make a play. Mind you, it worked on the lone goal Friday but if the game was being played in Panama, you can bet that would have been called back and Canada would have had to take the free kick again.

I'm not too worried about Jamaica. USA should return the favour tomorrow, then they still have to travel to Guatemala who will likely be tied at 7 points with Jamaica heading into the 5th round of matches. If they lose that game they could be in trouble.

I see a 0-0 draw tomorrow for Canada. They should be able to sit back and contain Panama, but will be cautious in pushing forward for a winner knowing a draw puts them one home win vs. Cuba away from qualifying for the final round.

Cheers Dial Squares! Best of luck on your plays tomorrow

Hirschfeld; Edgar, Hainault, McKenna (c), Jazic; De Guzman, Hutchinson, Bernier, De Jong; De Rosario, Jackson

pretty good lineup ... not unexpected so that's good...hopefully well rested.

looks like beer was thrown at the team --- i like the fact that fans try and be hostile towards opposition with loud music and yelling but it seems like what is going on in Panama is a bit over the top....this could get ugly if the same tackles and ball keeping happens...i'd love to see Canada score 1st and then start faking injury the rest of the way.. should be nuts...

Dial, once again I will put my neck out and state that S. Jackson will net a goal and this time I expect Canada to score early within 20 minutes and screw up the Panama game plan.

Bernier and Jackson need to have a big game. My kids will be up past bed time to watch this, that's how much we are pulling for the 3 points.

Having Refs from Salvador will be a bonus. They don't get along with Panama on the pitch.

1-0 or 2-0 Canada wins again! That my prognostication of this war on grass tonight!

sounds good to me .. and good for you to let your kids stay up. I was a young teenager but I have fond memories of late night watching the Jays during their World Series runs. With all the crap going on - Canada should be pumped up to take it out on the players....1-0 works for a lot of people on the under 2 tonight but i think most won't mind too much pushing an under 2 with the 2-0 win.

Piss poor performance by the Canucks. No midfield, really poor passing, no second effort, no first effort either LOL and the second goal was pure laziness. McKenna just strolling back to cover???? What's that all about.

Great job Panama you deserve the victory. Canada fell asleep at the wheel. Canada will not advance if they rely solely on set pieces for goals. The midfield needs to control the ball and feed the forwards but it has not happened in both matches and they paid the price this evening.

Canada was out hustled. Plain and simple.

for me losing de-ro so early was a big blow because Ricketts is no striker ... i must admit when it comes to our National side i don't pay close attention because I know they will let me down - there is no more excuses for not making the top 6 anymore. The announcer made a great point about De-Ro having the most goals scored for our country at 20 (I think). Maybe our best soccer athletes think they can play hockey and don't bother with soccer....but to never have a legititmate striker for 15-20 years (or ever) is very annoying....rob friend, gerba, bunbury, etc...all good players for us but never great on the world stage. Too bad....but this game plan was horrible and a rewind to how we were playing under Dale Mitchell....lost for words on how poor we were. Hopefully we beat Cuba but it Holiet was watching I would sign my Jamaician papers today...we are going nowhere. I don't know if Occean is back but this side isn't getting anything in Hondurus without major changes....and i still think we should try and steal Herdman from the ladies.

I don't think i would go to Qatar in 2022 so 2026 is my new goal to watch Canada in the World Cup.

ps yes i am pessimistic but justified because we are let down so often with poor game plans because we actually have talent.

Aston Villa vs. Swansea City

I’m really impressed by the way Swansea has begun their season. Scoring 10 goals and only allowing 2 in 3 matches with 2 wins a 1 draw. It seems this team is still thriving in spite of Rodgers defection to struggling Liverpool. Offensively Michu has been a great source for goals early on; but defensively they will be handicapped. Swansea will be missing Bartley & Taylor with injuries and Chico’s benching due to red card suspension.

With a depleted Swansea defense and a potent Swansea attack; these ingredients should mix into the perfect Goal Scoring Cocktail. The Swans have only lost 1 of their last 8 EPL matches. However, my only concern is that this is a match that comes after the break and I am slightly worried that it may have stalled Swansea’s momentum like a time-out in basketball will stop a run.

The worry for Aston Villa manager Lambert is that his team is considered a strong candidate for relegation this season. They are 0-Wins, 6-Draws, 7-Losses in their last 13 EPL matches (a worrisome trend); so I fully expect to see a desperate Villa side Saturday in front of an impatient home crowd. I also expect the first half to yield a goal or two and in all likelihood Villa should eke out their first win if they can smash a couple of goals past a depleted Swansea defense.

At almost even money I have to take a shot at this over 2.5. I think this is a bad line that should hit -130 by game time and has already moved from +105. It seems the books are looking at the last two matches between these clubs that only yielded 2 goals in total, plus the fact that it’s the first match back after the break. This total is low and I plan to take full advantage of it.

Aston Villa vs. Swansea City OVER 2.5 (-105) 3.0 Units
