maybe ill have to check out other sections...i dont venture away from the soccer section very often....aruk might want to check out the spain super cup....never easy to predict but always fun to watch barca v real...esp for a trophy. (beats EUROPA anyway ;) )

nice call on the over...torres was offside and the over was already a winner so kinda mad...but reading/southampton is proving that the new 3 won't let the top 3 run them over like QPR and co. did

How does Chelsea do it? That match should have been a draw and they cover the -1.5. LOL. I was tempted but with all the shenanigans of week 1 I was on the fence with the sides. Glad I stuck with the total.

Tottenham vs. West Brom

I said it before so I will keep this review brief; AVB is not a great a manager as his record in Portugal says he is. He’s not a Premier League manager. IMHO.

Spurs big problem is not enough fire power up front, they don’t normally press and a back four that plays high (as per AVB) and showed their vulnerability last week versus Newcastle. AVB requires his forwards to PRESS and PRESS AGAIN and Spurs are not comfortable with that style. Defoe did exhibit that he was able to press the Newcastle defenders but he’s not enough if they plan on out scoring their opponents. Adebayor for example has to buy into the AVB attacking style.

I love the way the Baggies played against Liverpool last weekend and they must keep that same spirit on the road today.

This is more of a play on the line (I think it’s wrong) and against Spurs. Plus, West Brom is still undervalued and we need to take advantage of these moments.

For example: How is Arsenal favored by 1 full goal??? I mean they have defensive issues and the Luka Modric saga is now almost over as I am writing this preview. He is flying to Madrid to pass a physical and the deal should be signed by Sunday. But there are other question makes with Jermaim Defoe and Rafael Van der Vaart (will they stay or will they go?)

West Brom is better aware of the challenge they face at White Hart Lane than most believe; they will be prepared. My point is……….I cannot ignore this line. I just can’t see them losing and if they are going to lose; not by more than one goal.

I hope AVB has fire resistant underwear; he should be in the hot seat again after this match.

West Brom Albion +1 (-107) 2 Units

Wolverhampton W. vs. Derby County

This will be a brief simple breakdown. Wolves weren’t very impressive in their visit match at Leeds losing by a score of 0-1 but they bounced back well at home last game with a 3-1 win over Barnsley.

Today they are up against a weak opponent in Derby who have lost one and tied one squandering a lead in their first match against a promoted Sheffield Wednesday.

Facing another 2010/11 EPL relegated team two matches in a row and on the road will prove another difficult task for the Rams. I fully expect another loss to EPL relegated Wolves.

Wolverhampton W. -0.5 (-120) 3 Units

Stoke vs. Arsenal

NO RVP/NO SONG = NO CHANCE (For the time being). The Gunners will need a few more competitive matches to begin to function as a team.

In contrast, Stoke kept their best players from last season and are very hard to beat at home. In fact they were undefeated against the top teams last season. At home they are an extremely defensively alert team.

Stoke are 3-1-1 when facing Arsenal at home. In fact, Arsenal’s only win at Stoke was on Feb. 28, 2010 and the game was level 1-1 when the Potters received a RED CARD in the 66’ then Arsenal scored 2 goals in the 89’ & 90’. Not exactly a convincing win.

Arsenal don’t like going to Stoke. It’s the physicality they will face and crazy enough they have never cut a clean sheet in 4 appearances at Britannia Stadium. It’s no secret that Stoke are very hard to play on home ground and I fully expect they won't lose. The Gunners were knocked out by the Potters in the FA Cup a couple of years ago, so the memories are nightmares and they should continue Sunday.

Stoke:

· Draws in 4 of the last 5 home matches
· Draws in 12 of the last 20 matches
· Draws in 6 of the last 8 matches
· Under 3 Goals in 15 of the last 20 matches
· 7 Straight home matches without a loss
· Lost only 4 of the last 16 matches at home and all by 1 goal.
· Last 6 matches were under 2.5 goals

What does this all mean………………. Stoke are a team that likes to hold on to a lead and is comfortable playing level.

Arsenal will be pushing to find the back of the net, while Stoke (as always) will vie for a slim victory. Tough one to call a winner, but I think we’ll have very few goals in this match up if any at all.

Stoke +0.5 (-145) 3 Units

Stoke vs. Arsenal Under 2.5 (-135) 3 Units

Stoke vs. Arsenal Draw (+230) 1.5 Units

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Norwich City

Once again I am negative towards AVB. “Sorry Bro, but I don’t like you as a manager in the EPL, so I pay close attention to your matches.” It looks like Dempsey will be a Spur very soon.

On a side note: Liverpool disgusts me. Rogers makes a claim in June he is interested in Dempsey but to this day never made a formal offer. It’s that type of B.S. that turns my stomach about the Reds and why I hope they fail miserably this season. Dempsey took it to heart and nothing happened. Rogers keep your mouth shut. The EPL needs to put rules preventing unsupported comments.

Norwich has been playing poorly and was very fortunate to get a draw last match. It’s nice to see Canadian Simion Jackson score in that match. He scored in the League Cup match as well a few days ago.

The Tottenham supporters believe the Canaries are ripe for the picking but I say NO. A -1.5 handicap is too generous between two teams that are impotent in the scoring department. Spurs may win 1-0 but it will take a gigantic effort and some luck for them to blow out Norwich.

Between the four matches these two played to date in the EPL, they have only scored a combined 3 goals. I don’t expect many today either as Spurs do not have a history of blowing teams out. If this match was later in the season with Norwich at the bottom of the table, (Where they will likely be) I would take Spurs at the -1.5.

Usually when two winless sides meet it’s either great or boring. I am inclined to believe we’ll see the later. I don’t expect Norwich to win this match, as they are winless in their last 7, but they will give it a good fight and limit the damage.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Norwich City Under 3 (+100) 3 Units

Comment:

I am watching the West ham v Fulham match right now and they are scrolling the live odds for the match on the video boards around the pitch.

Is that crazy or what. I've never noticed that before.

Manchester City vs. Queens Park Rangers

Keeping this one simple:

I can’t say enough about how wide open these two sides have played each other. They have both been able to score goals and City has gotten the better of the outcomes; which is why I decided to choose this game for an over consideration.

Both teams are not shy when it comes to attacking and their defenses have been suspect. 24 goals have been scored or conceded by both over the last 3 matches.

This should be a great match to watch as a neutral and I love the over, fully expecting Rangers to score a goal; with the lions share of goals coming in the second half.

Also, happy to have seen "cocktailsnlongshots" expecting goals. He is the City Expert and insider.

Furthermore, new City keeper Julio Cesar will not play. He has not been cleared by the FA.

Thanks Varkey,

I felt it could have gone over in the first half. Didn't watch the second half, I was training some goal keepers, so I was happy to see the 3-1 finish.

Happy we won. See you in the Football Forums

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

I think most people would agree that before Arsenal lost RVP and Song, they would be a contender (they may not win) for the league title. The team is stronger in many areas, weaker in many other areas (RVP & Song); but the depth is young and inexperienced. I know we will see a more polished version of Arsenal at the end of the season.

As for Liverpool, Rodger’s obsession with keeping the ball and the increased focus on the technical aspects is what he believes will propel the Reds. Rodgers taught Swansea to play like Arsenal and Barca; keeping the ball on the ground with quick short passes and a high possession percentage. As we saw last weekend, Liverpool is having trouble adjusting (Skrtel’s mistakes) to a system discipline that will be necessary to compete at the top level.

What does this all mean? In most cases a low scoring match. However, I think both clubs are making adjustments daily and during the match to find the “sweet spot” and when they do they will be powerful. Until then, I expect more blunders by Liverpool and unpredictable football from the Gunners.

Arsenal hasn’t found that right amalgam of players to truly make a statement and it will hurt them again today. Will they get their first goal? Yes and I think it will be Podolski or Arteta, or both for that matter. Liverpool is mistake prone as they adjust to a new style of Rodgers Football. I also think we’ll see Suarez net an early goal in front of the ever vocal KOP.

Not sure who will win in this cage match of under achievers, but I expect a 2-1 or 1-2 score line.
