Liverpool vs. Arsenal
I think most people would agree that before Arsenal lost RVP and Song, they would be a contender (they may not win) for the league title. The team is stronger in many areas, weaker in many other areas (RVP & Song); but the depth is young and inexperienced. I know we will see a more polished version of Arsenal at the end of the season.
As for Liverpool, Rodger’s obsession with keeping the ball and the increased focus on the technical aspects is what he believes will propel the Reds. Rodgers taught Swansea to play like Arsenal and Barca; keeping the ball on the ground with quick short passes and a high possession percentage. As we saw last weekend, Liverpool is having trouble adjusting (Skrtel’s mistakes) to a system discipline that will be necessary to compete at the top level.
What does this all mean? In most cases a low scoring match. However, I think both clubs are making adjustments daily and during the match to find the “sweet spot” and when they do they will be powerful. Until then, I expect more blunders by Liverpool and unpredictable football from the Gunners.
Arsenal hasn’t found that right amalgam of players to truly make a statement and it will hurt them again today. Will they get their first goal? Yes and I think it will be Podolski or Arteta, or both for that matter. Liverpool is mistake prone as they adjust to a new style of Rodgers Football. I also think we’ll see Suarez net an early goal in front of the ever vocal KOP.
Not sure who will win in this cage match of under achievers, but I expect a 2-1 or 1-2 score line.
