A dealers greatest chance of busting is with a 5 - approx 42%, with a 6 its slightly less, by the way with an ace showing they'll only bust about 11% of the time, but you always see people standing with crap, I'm thinking, my god, you have a 90% chance of losing if you just stand and hope.

If you guys want an easy counting method check out the KO method. There is no running/true count conversion so the math is much easier. Also there are only like 60 or so hands that can deviate from basic strategy depending on the count - compare this to like 200-300 hands for other methods. KO is powerful to get a 1% advantage with a small spread..this of course isn't counting any comps which you will be racking up as well.

since there seems to be alot of smart people in this thread, can anyone give me the actualy odds of a player hitting a bj +3 bonus (bonus is paid on players 2 up cards and dealers card). it pays on flushes, straights, and 3 of a kinds. pays 9 to 1. 6 deck shoe. i know the odds would be constantly changing i assume.

Every book I've ever seen shows that 5 busts slightly more (we're only talking about 1% or so).

Kidman, you sound like you are just asking why certain plays are correct, The answer is because that's what computer simulations over millions of hands say it is. Most of it is common sense, but for certain plays (such as hitting soft 18 vs a 9,10, or ace) the answer is that if you did this a million times, you would win 1.5% more than if you dont, etc.

Basic strategy does vary slightly for different #'s of decks, it's best to learn the strategy for what you play most, and make refinements later.

layer Advantage vs. Dealer Up Card

The first two columns in this odds chart explain the dealer's chance of busting, depending on the up card that he is showing. You should note that the dealer has the highest chance of busting when he is showing a 5. The third column in this chart shows the player advantage of using basic strategy, compared to each up card the dealer is showing. You can see that the player has the highest advantage of 23.9%, when the dealer is showing a 5. When the dealer is showing any card that is 9 value or higher, the player is in the negative advantage range.
Dealer Up Card Dealer Bust % Player Advantage % with Basic Strategy 2 35.30% 9.8% 3 37.56% 13.4% 4 40.28% 18.0% 5 42.89% 23.2% 6 42.08% 23.9% 7 25.99% 14.3% 8 23.86% 5.4% 9 23.34% -4.3% J,Q,K 21.43% -16.9% A 11.65% -16.0%

my stragety chart from our dealer instructor has the player doubleing on 12 vs a 4-6, so maybe that is was is altering my view, like i said, i was never a big bj player before hand

this should be for A,2 not 10,2

no player with any clue what they are doing should ever double down on hard 12

One final comment, we're both right, there are slight differences based on whether the dealer hits soft 17 or not,as well as deck #'s, generally if they stand on s17 likeliest bust is with a 5, if they hit s17 a six is the answer.

my favorite thing is that people actually believe bad players can influence there chances of winning, as though the cards are set in a predetermined order. oh let me sit this one out and change the cards! idiots. even otherwise intelligent people make comments like this. it is sad and pathetic to watch at times.

so tonight i dealt to two dealers, 1 current and 1 former for two other local casinos here in kc and both of them sat out hands trying to change up the cards tonight lol

the book says you "hit it", and the book as done all the math. It's not rocket science, it's about math and probability

although there is one "book" play I don't like. I don't always split 8's against the 10, especially when things are trending bad. Just don't want to put more money on the table in those situations.

I've been playing BJ for 60+, there's no substitute for BS played PROPERLY unless you're a counter. Study it until you recite it exactly, IF you're serious about reducing the house "edge". Never hit H12 vs 14,15,16, and NEVER dbl it no mattr what. Always dbl a S hand vs 3-6, vs 3 S 18 only. Always hit S18 vs 9, 10, A!! I personaly dbl ALL 11's, some don't vs A. When I was much younger B4 all the 6 & 8 deck shoes life was easier. Play ONLY 3-2 BJ PO!! Don't dbl any S Hand vs 2 or 7. BOL & press when on a roll!! There's much more, but PLEASE study BS, it's like debits & credits if you're a bookeeper, i.e. a MUST!!! OH last but NOT least MM as in all gambling.<><>

Not sure if anyone else has ever noticed, but it sure apears the opposite online and that the dealer more often puts together a winning hand when they are showing a 5 and the player holds.

Too bad you don't even know proper basic strategy, and half your advice
is wrong.

Errors in your post:

1. For *any* number of decks (1-8+) you double soft 18 vs. a 2 when dealer
hits soft 17

2. For 4 or more decks, you don't double 11 vs. Ace when dealer stands on
soft 17

3. "pressing when you're on a roll" Being "on a roll" has absolutely no
effect on future results, and in most likelihood means that the count has
gone negative, and pressing is the opposite of what you should do. Unless
you are counting cards, "pressing" means that you are putting more money
out there in a -EV situation.

4. Always double a soft hand vs. 3-6? Completely wrong. Check the wiz of odds charts.

I wasn't going to point it out...but...

It is really amazing how many "knowledgeable" BJ players still don't know how the correct strategy. All you need is a simple little card that will tell you exactly what to do. No guess work involved - no hunches - and you don't have to remember anything!

Too bad you're such dim witted douche. The statements I made were meant as a general rule. W/the advent of multiple shoes & many more "house" rules there ARE exceptions to the way I play. As far as dbl a S hand vs 3-6, I'd never change if I still got to a casino, F the WofO. as for my "pressing" of course my last hand doesn't predict my next, my style whether you like it or not is to do it, @ Craps or BJ. I ALWAYS dbl 11 vs A regardless, over the yrs I've won a hell of a lot more than I've lost. I'm too old to argue, you're one of those guys who storm off if 3rd base makes an "error" in your mind. Go bug someone who gives a shit!
