yeah but we didn't really see much of him , and maybe that was why...but then again the Ultimate Warrior was pretty brutal in the ring as well and he was one of the very elite at the time.

I am really sorry to hear about Angle though, he was clearly one of the most talented.

That was back when Vinny Mac had a boner (and some suggest that was "literal" as well as figurative) for bodybuilders. The Ultimate Warrior aka Jim Hellwig (now known as simply "The Warrior") had a great (albiet chemically enhanced) physique but was one of the worst in ring "workers" in history. The Warrior is a real crackpot now--somewhere along the way he became a rabid right winger...he was on C-SPAN awhile back speaking to some conservative youth group. It was downright surreal seeing him on C-SPAN.

Hellwig got his start in a quartet of bodybuilders turned wrestlers called "Powerteam USA". One of the other guys in the group was Steve "Flash" Borden, who would become a huge star as "Sting".

Rumor has it that Hellwig was a gay prostitute in the ATL before going into wrestling...

Hellwig was a nightclub bouncer at one point too IIRC before he started wrestling...that's also where Kevin Nash was discovered...

:toast: Here here. I wholeheartedly agree. I miss hearing his voice and was looking at some Youtube clips last weeks with him in it.

If your cable company has it get WWE 24/7 for 10 bucks it gets a big thumbs up for me they have all the old Heenan and Gorilla Prime Time wrestling shows (well they show 2 new shoes a month) plus they have this month an old Florida Championship show with Solie on the mike.

Yes Torrie is still married to Kidman he does alittle wrestling but it isn't often.

Here's the YouTube link I was talking about--the bear's opponent was Tracy Smothers, and not Wendall Cooley. Classic Solie--talking about how "bears are natural wrestlers" and trying to sell the thing as legit...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25BIVy7g0X8

WWE legal tries to pull down a lot of the old Georgia/Florida footage that gets posted but try to catch some of Solie's stuff from Florida...some of the angles involving Kevin Sullivan when he was doing his devil worshiper gimmick are incredibly edgy for the time...

Yeah, he bulked up a lot when Vinny Mac started pumping him full of chemicals...he was known as the "Dingo Warrior" when he was in WCCW if I remember correctly--no doubt an attempt to explain away his tenuous grasp of the English language...

Otis Sistrunk also wrestled in Georgia quite a bit, teaming for a time with "Freebird" Michael Hayes...

I was thinking about doing that the other way but I just hate McMahon and what he's done to wrestling recently. My son keep bothering me about getting it but I told him I will only do it as an incentive like making the Principal's list at school or something. I did check out what they have and I admit he has a lot of stuff on WWE 24/7 I want to see but maybe I'm just being stubborn right now. Damn, Billy Kidamn is married to Torrie Wilson?! Lucky man! She's fine as shit!

I've seen tapes of the Von Erichs-Freebird feud in 1984. Since I grew up in Toronto in the 80's we got access to WWF everywhere and every channel, NWA late late at night where were got Saturday Night and some AWA. We didn't get anything from Dallas so I had to read about it in the wrestling mags that when I look back at some I have make me laugh. I didn't get the full idea how hot that feud was til the late 80's-early 90's.

They has been one doc done on WCCW and another one on the Von Erichs, neither made a big splash but I know there out there. It's amazing that Kerry fight all those years without a foot and so few noticed.

If you lived in the southeast you could get so much killer wrestling on UHF it wasn't even funny. I lived right over the Georgia/SC border from Augusta for awhile as a kid and there much have been 20 hours a week of wrestling on TV. We got Georgia, Florida, Mid-Atlantic, World Wide, Memphis, All Star (AWA) and a few other rinky dink promotions...I didn't see what was then the WWWF until a number of years later when the USA Network started doing the shows from the Garden.

Where will they be at J-man in B'more? My friend is trying to get me back into it but for some reason I just can't. I'll give him heads up and we might go. Last time we went was around 8-9 years ago in AC. We had a blast and this was when WWF was tolerable in my eyes.

My favorite early tag team, Tony Atlas and Kevin Sullivan before Sullivan went completely nuts...both were squeaky clean and in reality both were pretty 'out there' as it turned out.

I just got two seats upper deck (apparently that was all available) right in the middle.

The show is at First Mariner Arena....I dread parking down there though. :icon_conf

Was this when Tony Atlas was doing his Black Superman gimmick LOL? I don't know why people liked the whole Kevin Sullivan devil workship gimmick. It was lame to me.
