risky a early post/play because the line is moving and i fear it might get up to -200 or -225 by tomorrow morning. I will say that the Johnstone's Paint Trophy is a very risky play because figuring out priority is key ... i like to think i understand certain clubs priority when it comes to cup play but it is never 100% right esp without seeing team's lineups...i have other leans but definitely waiting for club news....

Tuesday September 4th
England Johnstone's Paint Trophy
Coventry City v Burton Albion
Coventry City -1 -103 -1.03 to win 1 unit
i'd hate to take the biggest odds because we know in cup that could prove troublesome but Burton look rather poor vs exeter on the weekend. Burton did shock me with their cup win vs leicester and also beat sheff utd in the 1st round capitol one cup. Conventry also won their two cup matches vs Birmingham and Dag and Red. Burton plays Bradford while Conventry plays Arsenal so i think home side will probably work a bit harder to stay in this cup knowing the other cup is nearly a lost cause (100% effort vs Arsenal though). Burton claims they were hoping for a bigger club in the carling - Burton might overlook this one. A win vs Bradford In any case it is a league one side (relegated from the Championship last year) at home vs a poor League Two side with 1 win and 3 losses. Since promotion to league two, burton has played 3 JPT matches and lost all 3 including at home to a league one side this year. I think ownership wants the big money an EPL club could potentially bring in the next round of the Capitol One Cup and makes sure they stay in Leauge Two. So lose here - beat Bradford and hope for a good draw for the next round.

oldham +0.25, carlisle -0.25, exeter, yeovil pk, mk dons and bournemouth -0.25 are my leans for sides...i would never bet that many cups and looking to figure out a couple more plays.

line did move up to -200 and -1 -114 so personally glad i didn't wait....adding 2 more plays:

England Johnstone's Paint Trophy
Bristol Rovers vs. Yeovil
over 2.5 goals -124 -1.24 to win 1 unit
I think Yeovil with their start wins the match but i like the total more. 3 straight h2h in bristol (2 out of 3 overs in Yeovil) - bristol's Capitol One Cup match ended 1-3 and are coming off a 0-3 lost to Morecambe. Yeovil 3 wins and 1 draw in League One and 2 Capitol One Cup matches 3-0 vs Colchester and 2-4 vs WBA. Last season the first matches in the JPT for Bristol Rovers 1-3 and Yeovil 2-3 - you have to go back to 2007-08 to find Yeovil's last 1st match under. I do worry about Bristol scoring but with 67 kms seperating the two clubs, Bristol will want to give their fans something after the brutal start...i might regret not betting -125 for Yeovil to qualify but with their to the year focus could shift on the league and less on today's match...and a team struggling in league play can produce results in cup......1-2 2-1

Carlisle v Preston
Carlisle pk -134 - 1.34 to win 1 unit
Carlisle take this cup very seriously - winning it in 2010-11, finalist in 2009-10, but lost in the 1st round last year. Interesting both league one sides won both rounds of the Capitol One Cup - Carlisle plays Tottenham while Preston plays M'boro. Preston's manager is talking about maintaining fresh squads for the future which is a sign he will be making changes to the lineup....i think of both sides Carlisle will be more likely to concentrate on this trophy instead of the Capitol One Cup since Tottenham will be a tough match. Preston 1 lost and 1 draw in 2 league matches on the road - Carlisle won 1 home match and lost to early leaders Tranmere. Carlisle just signed three players: Mark Beck, Brad Potts and Dave Symington 'til 2015. Beck, D.Symington both scored in the Capitol One cup win vs Ipswitch and hopefully play today - a nice reward for the contract would be to get a couple more goals. Preston made it the quarter-finals last season but needed 3 extra time wins to get there - so this bet could push with preston winning in extras if this year repeats itself. Winning trophies is great and money comes with winning so i don't think Preston will just lie down here. But with promotion a possibilty and a winnable Capitol One 3rd round match ahead I think this will be a less priority match for the visitors. Push = money back but i like Carlisle at home.

I like Bournmouth pk but with such a small sqaud Portsmouth cannot make too many changes while Bourne says to expect changes - bournemouth not fairing very well full squad so i wonder how a lesser squad will do.

GL - i would love to post closer to kickoff and see lineups but i will not be around all day - dangerous to bet Cup and good day yesterday so probably go day to skip...

not surprised coventry didn't win - you really should never take the biggest odd in a cup round....kiss of death. I was cursing myself for taking the over instead of yeovil but down a man scored two quick goals to hit the over....1-1-1 ...anyone that knows me knows i hate pushing on any given day so i checked out some brazillian football.

Brazil Serie B
Vitoria vs. Criciuma
Vitoria -0.5, -1.0 -126 -1.26 to win 1 unit
Criciuma are playing great football and sit 2nd place one spot behind Vitoria - Cricuma finished 14th last season (vitoria 5th and 1 point out of a promotion spot). 1st v 2nd tend to be tight and draw enough times but i think Vitoria win. Last 4 Cricuma road matches 1 draw and 3 losses - 4th and 5th place sides beat them and so did 17th and longest name Guaratingueta. In fact Criciuma are just 3-3-4 on the road. Vitoria 8-1-1 at home - a bad home lost to Bragantino but i think teams are all going to have those and they responded by 5 straight wins that was snapped last round 0-0 on the road to America. Vitoria have given up just 7 goals in 10 matches - only 3 of 8 home wins have been by more than a goal so getting a full stake might be tough. Criciuma 11-0 at home and a big reason they are near the top of the standings but with a road record like that and recent play they might be a bit above their ability...

kinda risky today as a lot of the U21 groups have been decided or at least involve teams that can longer advance. Georgia for instance should really beat up on Estonia but with no chance to advance and a 81st winner needed in the reverse fixture it is hard to take them to win by more than a goal. Not Estonia with a goal in 6 matches so clearly pretty poor....

Thursday September 6th
UEFA u-21 C'ship Qualification
Moldava v Albania
over 2.5 goals -120 - 1.20 to win 1 unit
this is my favourite bet of the day but like everyone should i bet the same amount for every match. Both sides struggle to score vs the top teams in their group like Russia and Portugal but they can score when they play weaker teams and Albania is showing they can score vs anyone. Albania scored 2 goals at home in a 2-2 draw vs Portugal, 3 goals on the road vs Poland, they played a 4-3 home match vs Moldava and even manage 1 goal in Portugal. (something Russia could not do). Moldava not so much but they did score 2 vs Poland at home and that crazy 4-3 loss to Albania already this year and perhaps a shock win on the road in Poland 1-0. Both sides have poor defense Albania 16 goals scored against in 7 matches, Moldava 21 in 6. I think the offensive players going into matches know there is usually little chances for goals but in games like this perhaps the confidence is high knowing they will have their chances. Albania 5 overs in 7 matches, Moldava 4 overs in 6. Moldava certianly can win and would love a home win in the group stages for their fans but it will be hard to keep Albania off the board with their defense. Could be more but i think 2-1 is a good score to get.

Belgium v Norway
over 3 goals +103 - 0.97 to win 1 unit
by far the most interesting match for me - Belgium are 5 points back of Norway for 2nd and a potential best runner up spot to advance. If they can win here, and beat Iceland next round they need a Norway road lost to England. Very realistic scenerio if they can win here today. England 3-0 at home scoring 15 and giving up 0. I would take Belgium at evens but i just don't trust them as much as I do goals being scored. Yes Belgium won both their home matches including last round vs England but 2 losses and 2 draws on the road makes me believe Belgium really are not a top side. And the England win could have been the result of England letting the game slip away because Belgium were down 1-0 in the 70th min and scored twice including a 90th min goal. Norway played Azerbaijan and Iceland on the road and won both matches (0-2). They drew Belgium 2-2 at home and a draw here would wrap up 2nd but not necessarily wrap up a top 4 finish amongst 2nd place sides. Belgium 6 overs in 6 matches - Norway 3 overs in 3 matches and 0 in 2 road matches..both were 2-0 wins and it will be much more difficult to keep Belgium off the board. Norway could play a tight style but knowing a draw is no good for either side I think we will see a match much like the reverse fixture that ended 2-2...but not end 2-2 A quick goal (first 16 mins) would open this wide open...should be the game to watch today imo...hopefully we get the 4th goal as 2-1 1-2 is a likely result but over 2.5 goals at -160 is too much juice for me.

Switzerland v Spain
Switzerland +1 -137 - 1.37 to win 1 unit
no reason to think Spain is going to go to Switzerland and trash them. Swiss are a great side and fighting for a top 4 amongst 2nd place finishers and a draw here followed by a win at home vs Estonia would clinch it. A draw could also mean Spain tops the group even if they lose to Croatia. Swiss beat both Croatia and Georgia at home without giving up a goal - no question this will be the toughest test but i think they will hold their own. Swiss lost 3-0 in Spain but an early goal followed by a penalty kick goal killed off the match - i don't think we will see the same game here. Spain are coming off a 1-0 road win vs Estonia (the worst team in the grou) so Switzerland should have the confidence that they can hold Spain...Spain might win in the end but I do think we will see a 2+ goal win. If a draw helps both sides, which i believe it does, there is always a good chance the draw will hit. Nice odds on the draw but i'd prefer this line as even Switzerland can win, draw or lose by 1 and i'll get something out of it.

GL today - big day tomorrow so hopefully a decent one so i have the desire to look at the weekend...GO CANADA

funny moldava scored on a pk in the 8th min and took 80 mins to get another...fluked the 3rd goal late. Norway scores a pk in the 12th and now no more goals. Belgium down a man which all but kills any chance for the over at least pushing. I already took under 2.5 in a live-in play to get some money back. I'm not watching but a pk and a red card in the first 25 mins....gotta wonder what they were doing out there.

gl on the qualifiers this weekend.

World Cup Qualifying Europe
Azerbaijan vs. Israel
over 2 goals -134 - 1.34 to win 1 unit
Israel will be missing some key defenders and might need to play a bit more offensive then they usually would and Azer have proven they can score at home vs anyone. In the Euro Qualifiers, Azer managed goals against Austria, Germany and Turkey. In fact in those EUROs, 3 out of 5 home matches had at least 2 goals in them. Of their last 13 home matches since the last WCQ (EURO and friendlies) Azer have played 9 matches with at least 2 goals in them. Israel played 4 EURO Qualifying road matches in 5 with at least 2 goals in them and their last 11 road matches since the last WCQ 10 matches had at least 2 goals in them. One 0-0 vs Georgia the lone under. In the end I think Israel are a touch better and should get the win but Azer can score esp if Israel is weak and inexperienced at the back. I think Israel have a decent shot at top 2 with Russia but you need to win these matches...1-2 but a good 2 goal push chance so i wouldn't touch the over 2.25 or 2.5

i think Russia can trash Northern Ireland and win by at least 2 goals but i don't trust them enough to do it...Russia definitely doesn't mind winning matches by 1 goal and although i think Northern Ireland are very poor - tough to take Russia to win by 3. I think Kazakhstan are improving but still a step behind and Ireland should battle Sweden and maybe Austria for the 2nd place but like Israel need to win. I would take Ireland -0.75 but i think there are better plays out there.

I will post more but this is the only one i'm playing before the 1-3pm EST matches.

adding

Malta v Armenia
Armenia -1 +106 - 0.94 to win 1 unit
i think Armenia could have made a run in the WCQ but the group they are in i doubt think so. Malta has had a few decent results drawing swiss and georgia at home but lose to Cape Verde, Latvia, Bulgaria etc...Armenia had a great EURO campaign beating Slovakia on the road and managing draws at home vs Russia. Armenia are ranked 53rd and malta 139 - i watched armenia vs canada and although Canada are not the best side they still impressed me. Perhaps there is little value in the armenia -1 but i do think they win and must win to have any shot at qualifying (which is near impossible). 0-2

looking for one more right now ....

2 of the weakest goals i've seen in awhile - what a tough match to watch - i'd hammer against Azer and Israel next match. adding two more without reasoning as it is pub time to get ready for England and convince the drunkards that Canada v Panama is more important than the fact there will be no hockey....back in time for more...

EUROPE WCQ
Netherlands v Turkey
over Over 2.5 and 3 -114 - 1.14 to win 1 unit
i think turkey has shown they can score here but certainly dutch should win....i wonder if RVP will be 6-8 months after today's match. Hopefully Huntelaar plays instead of the non-countryboy.

Wales v belgium
Belgium -126 - 1.26 to win 1 unit
me and the whole wide world are taking the Belgiums. You just can't help but think the quality of midfielders between the sides will come in effect. Hopefully, perhaps the biggest upstart nation, can work well together and produce results. At least the world thinks so..

1-1 with 2 pushes...armenia could have won 2-0 late but nice save but it was looking like 0-0 so i didn't mind the push. I would jump on the belgium wagon yet as wales were down a man early....dutch back to winning form and rvp even scored so who knows...should qualify easy enough i guess. Too early to say...i will say i like scotland to win here but i am not betting them. Serbia seem to be on a decline and scotland with some nice home results in the EURO qualifiers...losing to spain by 1 and drawing czech while beating lithunania. I have no clue about denmark v czech.....

Saturday September 8th
England League One
Brentford v Colchester
Brentford -130 -1.30 to win 1 unit
Colchester 1 draw and 2 losses on the road - Tranmere and Yeovil trashed them while preston played a 0-0 draw. Brentford 1-1 at home losing to Yeovil and beating Crewe 5-1. Colchester 12 draws in their last 18 league matches and last two h2h have been draws...but brentford off to a better start and very impressive 86th and 90th min goals to tie Walsall on the road.

Swindon v Leyton Orient
Swindon -1 -104 - 1.04 to win 1 unit
surprise to see the line drop for swindon....2-0 at home with impressive wins vs MK Dons and Crawley (2 clean sheets). Maybe Crawley isn't a promotional candidate (wouldn't surprise me) but MK Dons certainly are. (swindon definitely are) Leyton are 2nd favoured to be relegated and so far 0-3 scoring 1 goal. Crawley, Tranmere and Stevenage are all decent sides but probably middle of the table. Leyton have lost 9 of their last 10 road matches (2 this year) and Swindon 15 home wins in their last 16 matches.

Yeovil v Bournemouth
over 2.75 goals -104 -1.04 to win 1 unit
Bournemouth three 1-1 draws and a 5-3 lost to Sheffield. Yeovil in 7 matches (cup and league) 6 have been over with one 1-1 draw vs Colchester. Yeovil 17 overs in 23 home matches last season. I think Yeovil start is a bit of a stretch and perhaps bournemouth wins this one but Yeovil definitely can score...3-0 vs Bristol and 2-4 vs WBA in cup matches. Bournemouth 1-1 scores worries me as they might be settling for road draws like a lot of clubs but h2h the last two seasons 1-3 and 2-2 in Yeovil

haha...swindon hadn't lost at home in a year (or something like that) might as well lose to one of the worst teams in the league...gotta stop taking the biggest odds in lower england. 0-3 baring a miracle.

Monday September 10th
UEFA u21 C'ship Qual
Bosnia v Germany
over 3 goals +100 - 1.00 to win 1 unit
Germany qualified for the final and appear to be starting some new players - for youth sqauds and club too this could be a postive as new players will want to prove themselves for a potential starting role. Bosnia need to win to qualify as wins vs san marino will not count because of the 6th team rule. With goal difference and goal scored being the 2nd and 3rd tiebreaker (after points) Bosnia will need to win but, although unlikely, score multiple goals. Goal difference for bosnia is 8 and goals scored 16 since san marino matches don't count. By needing to attack from the start and Germany wanting to send the message to the bigger nations by going 10-0 I think we will see goals. Both nations played 7 overs in 9 matches - Bosnia 4-0 overs at home and Germany 4 overs in 5 road matches. German is by far the class of the group but Bosnia is a good team with a great home record. Both sides 6 overs in their last 10 matches home/away with plenty of 4+ games....to me bosnia can win but in the end germany will be too strong....1-3

Austria v Scotland
Scotland pk -108 -1.08 to win 1 unit
Scotland can still qualify with a win and in 7 matches are yet to lose. 3 wins and 4 draws isnt all that impressive in the end but i am confident that the pk line should at least push here. Austria is certainly a good team but Netherlands and Bulgaria both won on the road vs Austria. Scotland on the road beat Luxembourg and a surprise win vs Netherlands but only managed a draw vs Bulgaria. Scotland only managed a home draw vs Austria and i could see another draw. Austria won't lie down at home and players playing for future international callups but i think Scotland can win here.

Switzerland v Estonia
Swiss -2 -142 - 1.42 to win 1 unit
right at the edge of my limit for juice - by fixing the draw vs Spain ... I mean drawing Spain, Switzerland should wrap up a top 4 among 2nd place teams with a win. Estonia lost 4-0 to Croatia and 6-0 to Spain and there is no reason to think Switzerland won't do the same. They still need to win and although 1 goal win would be enough the fact that a set piece, pk late could result in a 1-1 type score, Switzerland will not stop at 1-0 2-1 .... Swiss 9Gf:0Ga at home beating Georgia 5-0 and Croatia 4-0 and drawing Spain 0-0. I don't think Estonia score here and Switzerland gets at least two but more likely 4-5....i wouldn't hesitate on the swiss -2.25 line if you dont like juice or your book has a -150 -167 type line...

i find it interesting that a draw would probably be enough for norway to advance while england would guarantee 1st place....i think a draw fix isn't likely here but then again a draw is a good possibilty...

spain+russia+denmark+swiss pays -116...spain would worry me a bit but i think that parlay hits.....but for me just the 3 posted above....i actually like 7 plays today in u21 but just can't risk that much in one day....gl and go CANADA!

don't remember the last over 3 to hit in the first half....the scotland line has gone from slight favourites at +150 to underdog at +175....if you haven't placed a bet and were considering i wouldn't recommend it anymore. The line moved overnight in favoured of Scotland so perhaps the bookies are trying to even out the bets but in my experience soccer doesn't hold true to that and usually late swing like this is a bad sign if you are opposite the swing. Let's hope not and there is still no reason to think Scotland can't at least get 1 point out of the match.....perhaps peeople just realized Jordan Rhodes got a big boy callup and wasnt playing today....that's my only explanation and i do wish Scotland FA would have let him play in the u21

@DribbleB - i don't tweet very often but starting to...twitter is by far the best tool to find team lineups....sometimes an hour before kickoff

i thought Scotland was going to sneak it but Austria certainly deserves something...hopefully no more though

you have to like a 3 teamer hitting with three 3-0 scorelines and little doubt eh rolltide? nice job....late goal sunk scotland but also made swiss a winner so it balanced out. Can't blame Scotland for conceeding late as a win was probably needed....i know World Cup Brazil should be the main focus but I imagine Scotland with Rhodes might have managed a better result today - and all he played was 9 mins on Saturday. Perhaps he will be used more next match for Scotland....but at least in hindsight big mistake imho for Scotland FA. (8 goals in 6 matches for Rhodes with the u21 team).

Back to the World Cup Q tomorrow....gl

World Cup Qualifying
Cyprus v Iceland
Iceland pk -106 -1.06 to win 1 unit
i know the fact the Cyprus club teams are having success makes people believe the Cyprus soccer is ready to prove itself a bit more on the international level but i don't buy it. In their last 23 matches just 3 wins - Andorra, Moldova and Bulgaria....the first two were friendlies and the later an impressive result. These played each other in the EURO qualifiers Iceland winning 1-0 at home and 0-0 on the road. (0-0 in a road friendly vs Cyprus too). Although FIFA rankings have them at similar rankings I think Iceland is improving much quicker...and a 1st round win vs a tough Norway team is a great result. Iceland's away record is very poor though - 16 away games without a win but most losses by 1 goal and against team much better than Cyprus. I think i might be influenced by the 1st round matches a bit too much but if there is a winner i do think it will be Iceland....but good draw chance.

Austria v Germany
over 3 goals -102 - 1.02 to win 1 unit
too bad the over 2.5 line has lost all value for me because it is a much smarter play...but i don't mind pushing bets. Hard to not take Germany overs until they prove to not work...in the last 22 matches 20 have seen at least 3 goals and 6 straight matches have been overs. There are enough 4+ goal game to make me think the over 3 can hit. Germany certainly do give up goals esp on the road - Denmark and Netherlands both score in the Euro Cup and Turkey, Azer, Poland, and Austria all scored at home in the EURO qualifiers...that Austria match ended 1-2 and i think same type of score here. I remember watching the 6-2 Germany win vs Austria in the EURO qualifiers and would love another match like that. Only 2 of the 5 home matches for Austria were overs in the EURO qualifiers but the match vs Germany was and 2 of them had 2 goals.....first match for austria and they might be looking for any result to kick off WCQ but Germany should have a lot to say about it. For me it's almost a bet German overs play but i do think Austria scores at least one....1-2 makes the most sense unfortunately.

Hungary v Netherlands
over 2.5 goals -130 - 1.30 to win 1 unit
i took netherlands over last round and lost but turkey had so many chances to score and even the Dutch...game could have had 4+ goals. Hungary at home should manage to score vs this questionable defence. Not enough to win/draw though as the Netherlands showed that they have return to their good play after the EURO and those awful friendlies....and RVP seems to be scoring for everyone (except Arsenal). These teams also met in the EURO qualifier with Netherlands winning 4-0 away and 5-3 at home. Hungary 5-0 vs Andorra which actually was a bit higher than i thought but still it was against Andorra. But in the EURO qualifiers they managed at home 2 goals vs Sweden. Perhaps the Dutch can get all 3 but i do think hungary need a goal. I see little value on Netherland -1 as that defense is a question mark and 2-2 type game would not shock me. I think 1-2 0-3 ... but just taking the over.

I might be taking 2 more in Europe but still waiting on a bit of team news....GL today.

i know cup betting isn't usually the smart play but working out for me somehow this season - 27-15 in cup plays by my calculations. Going to use the same strategy for Spain as i did for england/germany. Hopefully similar results...

Wednesday September 12th
Spain Copa Del Rey
Girona Draw No Bet aka pk +275 - 0.36 to win 1 unit
certianly a risk but outisde of 1 cup run in 2008-09 Gijon have lost out of the first round every year since i looked back. Last two years where against La Liga side Mallorca but before that a couple of Segunda B sides. Girona lost out last two times in the 1st round but they have won a couple of 1st round matches. I imagine returning to La Liga is #1 priority for Gijon and a 0-2-2 could result it in an early cup exit to concentrate on thier Segunda. They are still 2nd favoured to win so they should turn the early start around. Missing Miguel de las Cuevas is a big blow for their midfield for Gijon. Girona 2-1-1 so far and 1-1 on the road losing to Hercules in the league play ... Girona had a 5 game away unbeaten streak prior to that match. Certianly if Gijon field a strong side and have a big desire to win they should and last season Girona were terrible on the road but odds are bit too high not to take. The +1 or +0.75 might be a better bet but worth the risk to bet smaller for me.

L'Hospitalet v Noja
L'Hospitalet -1 -108 - 1.08 to win 1 unit
i must admit i have no clue about either side and probably betting strictly because of L'Hospitalet run last year in the cup. They made it to the round of 16 and a 10-0 defeat to Barcelona on aggregate and held Barca to a 1-0 defeat at home (probably Barca had a lot to say about only winning 1-0). The 3 wins L'Hosp. had were against teams in the same divisions so perhaps it was just luck of the draw. But the idea of a similar run and maybe getting Barca or Real Madrid might be on their minds. In any case they are a Segunda B side and went 11-7-1 at home last year. Noja from what a read where promoted from a C division (III). A really dumb bet but based on last year and a more experience II side i'll ride the -1. I'll be kinda pissed if this losses because it is pure guesswork and goes against a lot of my betting principles...

if you can find vasas v Paks over 3 goals in Hungary Cup i'd bet it...i do not have any accounts that isn't over 3.5 which i will not take. I have over 2.5 at -188 which is too high for me...i love the over 3 and would take it but i am not joining any more books. Looking for a 3rd but not liking anything in spain...perhaps norway division one or in brazil (or even a MLS play as TFC are playing)

GL this weekend....good day to skip betting i think.
