Yeah, at least it's one of the top performances on the board - if not the best.

h2h already out at bet365 + ub. Besides, a lot of special bets like number of gold medals, etc...
ps_Germany to win Women relay: 1,4 (no surprise, but sadly very low);

9 February

Biathlon - Women: World Championships 7,5km Sprint

Head to head

Teja Gregorin vs Natalia Guseva

My pick is Teja Gregorin to finish ahead of Natalia Guseva

5 units to win 3.5 units at gamebookers

Guseva gets a lot of credit here for her finish last year ( bronze medal in sprint ) which has nothing to do with her recent form .
Lets have a look at their stats in the last 2 races :

Sprint

Gregorin
<TABLE><TBODY><TR class=r2v2><TD align=middle>0+1 </TD><TD align=middle>23:09.4 </TD><TD align=middle>+1:33.0</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Guseva <TABLE><TBODY><TR class=r1v2><TD align=middle>2+0 </TD><TD align=middle>23:53.8 </TD><TD align=middle>+2:17.4 </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

44.4 seconds ahead with 1 error less would mean Gregorin was around 20 seconds faster in running than Guseva

Mass start

Gregorin
<TABLE><TBODY><TR class=r2v2><TD align=middle>0+1+3+1 </TD><TD align=middle>38:29.25 </TD><TD align=middle>+2:21.9</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Guseva
<TABLE><TBODY><TR class=r1v2><TD align=middle>1+0+0+0 </TD><TD align=middle>38:10.23 </TD><TD align=middle>+2:02.9</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Guseva with 4 errors less but only 19 second better time than Gregorin means she lost more than 1 minute against her in just running .

Gregorin shooting better than Guseva this season overall and has better running times so I will go with her against Guseva .

Eveli Saue vs Ann Kristin Flatland

My pick is Ann Kristin Flatland to finish ahead of Eveli Saue

10 units to win 8.5 units at gamebookers + pinnaclesports

Like this one even more than the first match up . Flatland very good in in the last sprint with 6th place , she was 5th in the last WC in sprint and her opponent 15th . Flatland much better than Saue in my books and I am very surprised by even odds here so I am glad to take it with high stakes .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Basicly I wont try to predict match ups like Wilhelm vs Henkel or something like that in sprint because you cant really call a winner here because it will depend on their shooting performance a lot in just 7.5 km but I might do it in the later races when I see their actual form .

Still looking for other interesting head to heads in women race , feel free to post your suggestions . Will post my picks for men race after the women race is over to see the conditions in Ostersund .

Good luck guys , looking to make some serious cash during that World Championships d1g1t:tongue2:

One more I found

Michaela Ponza vs Delphine Peretto

My pick is Michaela Ponza to finish ahead of Delphine Peretto

5 units to win 2.5 units at gamebookers

This one should be no problem at all because Ponza is slow but shes still better than her opponent and can make up 1 penalty loop against Peretto in my opinion and that is just in case she going to need it because I cant see her making more than 1 error in sprint being one of the best shooters in the circuit . So if Ponza makes no error or 1 she is going to finish ahead of Peretto no matter what unless she was training with K.Varis :missingte . I cant see Peretto with 10/10 tomorrow so Ponza should have no problem to finish ahead of Delphine Peretto at all .
Odds are pretty low at 1.50 but I cant give Peretto more than 10 % chance against Ponza unless there is some accident going to happen tomorrow with Ponza .

Off to bed now and will probably wake up at around 11 CET when women race is gonna take off .

just a gerneral comment to start off: I read an interview with Greis, where he is stating that the track in Ostersund is very selective with many long uphill climbs.
That i might indeed favour the better runners over shooters, especially in the longer races.

Also Neuner is a birthday girl on Saturday..will it help ???

Olofson, although at home, is now in four month pregnancy...will it still show no effects, especially on tough tracks?

Good morning.
Shiiit - bloody biathlonworld.com needs like ages to load, don't know what the problem is, yesterday the same....Don't have the time to wait for this crap, but w/o the info this makes no sense at all. Brainiac, are you sure about Saue, I can't look it up now, but I got the feeling that she wasn't so bad this season. Flatland improved nicely, but not sure that she is way superior to the Estonian?!

- Gregorin and Ponza sounds reasonable to me.
- Looking at the odds for outright and podium, I don't see anything useful - you are right about waiting first race to see track conditions and form of runners.
- I'm curious how the Swedes will deal with the home pressure - ain't a lot of athletes who are used to it like the Germans (Ruhpoling, Oberhof and f.ex.Antholz).
- Odds on Bailly vs Neuner seem too high to me. Ok, Neuner should be faster on the track under normal circumstances and Bailly is prone to errors as well, but 2,50 for the French seems really high. Besides, it's Neuner's birthday and there will be even more ballyhoo + a lot more pressure than a year ago. Sure, she did remarkably well so far in "taking it easy", but this is World Championship and she is defending champion....

....damn it, I'll skip the women sprint, don't bet on it w/o looking up the stats. Perhaps just a bit of Ponza and Gregorin....See ya later....

ps_you know another site with detailed info on biathlon (I mean more than just the result lists) ?

ps_Hey, Chriscol! From what I remember, the track is "medium" (not as difficult as Oberhof, but no walk in the park, too). Do you know about Saue?

Girls:

WIlhelm over Neuner @2.01:

WIlhelm is better in Sprint as she is better in shooting. she had outstanding shooting performances in Training (not that i would count that too much, but at least good form and confidence). She is stating often that she is focusing on a good sprint result to get the medal monkey immediately off the back. She finished 1,4,5 in last 3 sprints vs. Neuner 8,12,3

Henkel over Bailley: @1.85

Why is Bailley so hyped up ?? basically ranked at no 4 to win the race...she finished 7,20,15 in last 3 sprints and also overll form is not outstanding.
Henkel is much more consistent in all races lately..she can run and shoot. She finished 2,9,20 in last 3 sprints steadily improving towards the WC

Becaret over Moiseuuw @ 1.88

Moisseuw very, very avarage in sprint going 18,31,36, while Becaret went 8,18...if this goes true to form Something in the top 15-20 should make it a winner

Sleptsova over Bailley @ 2.24

i miss something completely about Sleptsova and would like to have some input here from you guys before i go really big here: is she out of form or what...Bailley is favourite? i dont get it..last three sprints for sleptsova are 3,2,2 and also verall performances are solid

Falntland- Saue: i like Brainiacs pick, although i dont have it so strong..Sue is nothing special going 19,19,27 in last 3 sprints, bt Flatland besides the last race (6th) also jut 28,57 which is even worse.

Sleptsova over Olofson @1.76

Sleptsova see above...Olofson is basically a Baby-fade

I am also thinking about Johnson over Olofson for that reason, but let s see first today how she reacts

Input on Bailley + Sleptsova very welcome

BOL to all

not really. i basically go with the race results and comments and interviews i can find on sport1.de and sport1.at (funny that the austrian side is sometimes even better or at least completely different to the german side, although it s the same overall web-side)

Bailly: may be you're right and she just gets creds for past success, but it's hard to tell if she simply concentrated the whole season towards this event. So far, she didn't look solid at all (shooting), but at least the running part was improving over the last World Cups.
Sleptsova: Big questionmark as well - sort of a new face in russian team this season and it remains to be seen how she fares here and if she is able to perform on a constant level.
Wait&see!?

About the track: seems to favour the good runners more than I thought - Ricco Gross just pointed out that even going downhill is not easy because it's full of bends with icy plates and if you don't pay attention + don't have good skiing technique, you lose a lot of time.
