OMT - I have noticed lately that some posts are "center aligned" instead of the normal "L side" aligned. Why?

We have noticed the same thing. I will notify tech support and see if we can get it corrected.

Because I'm still a newbie...

If someone has a bankroll (BR) of X, what should their unit amount be? I'm thinking 1/100 of total bankroll, so X/100. But I want to know what others think. How many units can be risked on one bet, without committing a BR management sin?

Is there a certain number of outs one wants, depending what X is? 1 out per $5000, or some general guideline that should be followed?

Lastly is my nerdy question, who has the coolest computer set up at theRX? I know one of these guys has like 8 monitors, probably /w trading going on 4 of them and sports info on the other 4.

Thanks!

A standard used by many is that each bet should be 1% of your bankroll in order to protect it. Thus 1 unit or 1% of a $5000 bankroll would be $50. There are many others who vary the size of their wager as they develop experience. There is no hard rule or guideline except "Never Bet More Then You Can Afford To Lose!"

As for the number of outs with a $5000 bankroll, two or three would be a minimum, perhaps five with $1000 in each provided you will only bet 1% per wager.

As for who may have the most computers/monitors on at a time here at the RX, I have absolutely no clue. Why don't you start a thread in the Offshore Forum. I think that would get a lot of responses and would be interesting to what our posters have to say.

A follow-up, is there a maximum amount you'd suggest keeping in a book? Either a percentage of your total bankroll, or an actual amount of money?

thanks again! BOL tonight!

The maximum amount I would keep in any A+ rated book is $50,000.

Hi OMT, I don't know where to ask this question so i'll ask it here. My Thread Tools "Subscribe to this Thread' isn't working. I'd like to get Big Cat e-mail notifications and a few others but when i click on 'Subscribe' it goes to a second page and when i click 'instant e-mail notifications' nothing happens. Then when i check on 'my subscriptions' it says empty. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Never any need to apologize. That's what this thread is here for. I'll always try my best to get you an answer. To be truthful, I was under the impression that our Subscription feature was not functioning according to our tech support. If you've got it working then perhaps they were able to activate that feature.

@) Actually this is no laughing matter. What tends to make players wager on parlays is the lure of winning a nice amount for a small investment. IMHO, you would be much better of just wagering straight on each play and try to hit around 53% or better. You just need to break that cycle that has you wanting to win a large sum now and not being patient. This business is not a get rich quick sprint but rather a very long lifetime marathon.

Question about updating a thread title.

Hello,
I was at SBR for several years. I cap NBA, NCAAB, NCAAF, and MLB. I cannot do anything with NFL or NHL.

I came here because several of my friends recommended it.

I started a thread in the NBA section, but I would like to update the title of the thread every day to put my record in there. Is there a way to do this? To update the thread title every day?

I brought my NBA record over from the SBR forum. My record is 186-81 +181.88 units. This can be verified by looking at my thread in the NBA forum over there. I went by the screen name Curious there. I asked one of the moderators to disable my account there.

A lot of people on here know me, they asked me to come here. I have had an account here for several years but did not use it very much. Now I will be posting my picks in the sports that I follow every day.

Thank you in advance for your help.

First of all welcome to the RX. As to your questions, I have two responses.

First, only a moderator has the tools to edit a thread title and we don't want our moderators having to edit everyones handicapping threads each day to update the record. What most of our posters do is start a new thread each day, in each sport, in the appropriate forum with the updated record in the title or they run a continuous thread with their record posted inside the thread.

Second, glad to hear that you have been doing so well, however your record at SBR is not considered here at the RX. You should start out here at 0-0 in your thread title or inside the thread.

I hope that answers your questions and continued best of luck!

Hey old man, I didn't get an answer yet with a thread I started, so I though I would ask you directly. I'm not new to betting on sports, but I've never truly handicapped games before. I just bet on a team if it is a good situational play, or if my gut tells me to. How do I learn to handicap like it is supposed to be done? Thanks for any help. VG

First of all, welcome to the RX. Learning to handicap properly is a lifetime experience as there is always more to learn throughout the many years in this business. A good place to start is by reading literature on the various sports you are interested in wagering on. The largest bookstore in gambling is located in Las Vegas and I have visited and bought a great deal of material through it's many, many years of operation. The link is provided below. I suggest you browse through the website and then call them toll free to inquire about literature. The owners name is Howard Schwartz and he is very helpful but not always there. Best of luck!

ted do you think any bookies post at RX and tell people here what they "need"?

I know some have claimed they were books and they were posting "needs", but do you REALLY think that happens?
